Reason to enjoy Wednesday night number 67

Reason to enjoy Wednesday night number 67: Victor Wanyama didn’t get booked.

21-year-old Victor is a fabulous talent but he has also been a tad rash in his earlier Champions League outings this season.  One more yellow card will bring a suspension but his timing, and more importantly, his concentration, on Wednesday was excellent. This is a player maturing; more to come.

The 1254125 charity cycle left Lurgan this morning for Belfast port where they caught a ferry to Cairnryan. After they set wheel on Scotland they have a 37 mile cycle to Maybole, 7 miles of which is uphill, one of the most difficult parts of the endeavour.

They are people with the spirit of this club pumping through their veins right now. Check out their everyclick page for more information.

  1. I think the number of empty seats tomorrow at Celtic Park, will illustrate the supporters thoughts on the game being high jacked by the poppy brigade.

A condition of their liscence was to pay football debt,

dont know if they still owe money for templeton.

CG was going on about helping them pay wages, maybe

    templeton money

  3. now we know why the result of ftt has not been published, would

have been a bit awkward for the sevconians today with the tax

dodging result and pledging their devotion to their armed forces, you just might see it this week now.

I thought the debt to Hearts for LW was owed by the dead club, not Sevco.

Why do Sevco need to give them money?

Because part of the deal for Sevco to be allowed a licence and immediate access to professional football was that they had to settle the football debts of the dead club. Clearly they are now looking at ways to squirm out of this one…

  5. SPF

As part of sevco’s admission to the leagues they guaranteed to meet all football debts ..

Sevconian phones up to question Keevins talking about football highlights and saying the highlight of the day was the army bumf, majic.

That there is your sevco right there, highlights of a day at the ‘football’ is the army bumf. Brilliant.

    south side,

As I said regardless of how long, it’s censorship of the right to protest, your just another poppy fascist.

I will never condemn a Celtic supporter who does not agree with my chosen practice on this issue and like many who died in WW 2, I will fight for their right to protest if they want.

  10. A few belated (and possibly one controversial) thoughts on Wednesday…..

First off, I watched the game in the restaurant/bar at the Goldrush Inn in Whitehorse in the Yukon. I have watched Celtic games in many odd places. The howling wind and blowing snow outside just added to the occasion.

I was the only Celtic supporter in the room. Got them to switch off the monster trucks, and then the man u game. Didn’t get sound, but was thankful for what I had. By the time the game was over, the grizzly old men at the bar, along with the ample young barmaid, they were all lifelong Tims. Or so they said at the time…..

    So……

Let’s get off this ‘historic’, ‘best since Lisbon’ nonsense. We are selling ourselves short. Celtic have ebbed and flowed in my lifetime. When we have a weak team, we get turned over in Europe. When we have a good team, we beat teams, big and small.

Fiorentina, Benfica, Leeds, Liverpool, Milan, Man Utd and yes, Barcelona – more than once.

So, while this was fabulous, it wasn’t unique. This is what we do when we have a strong team. This ‘historic’ stuff only puts us in the same box as Kilmarnock a couple of weeks ago.

    Second…..

This team has real potential in Europe. Why? We are stronger when we don’t have the ball. Look at Moscow and the 2 games with Barcelona. This ability is HUGE in Europe.

    Third…….

Neil Lennon and his staff may very well be a stronger management team than we have had for a long time. And I include Martin’s group in this. The current team have several different game plans. They are more flexible, even among a given 11 players.

Neil may very well have taken a leaf out of Murinho’s book. Wednesday’s game was not unlike how Inter beat Barca to win the CL.

    Fourth……

Our fans may be an even bigger ally than they were during MON’s reign. I recall on Wednesday, how having won the ball in midfield, we made a pass, looked to go forward, saw nothing on…..and played the ball back fully 35 yards to the keeper. When I watched the game again last night (with sound), I noted that our fans readily applauded. Compare and contrast to when Neil Lennon did the same thing, in the same venue.

    Fifth…….

I think that we are fast becoming the ultimate ‘Moneyball’ team. Liverpool are trying – and failing – at this. If we have any spare cash lying around, we should be continuing to invest in our coaching staff.

    Sixth…..

I do not know what future Tony Watt has in the game. His character will be sorely tested as his agent jumps on the accolades. However, in the here and now, I will say this: No other Celtic striker (and I include Hooper in this) would have scored that goal.

    Finally….

    Wow….:)

  11. Weeron

I’ve seen big Sammy score a few goals of that type …he’s the only CFC player fast enough ..along with Watt of course

You are deliberately misrepresenting what I am saying, typical of a poppy fascist, your only argument is to demand compliance, emotional blackmail is IMO not a valid argument to deny anyone their freedom. What I and any other Celtic supporter choose to do, short of violence is not under your control thankfully, get used to it adolf.

But the problem with Neil Lennon is that he doesn’t know how to win the big games. Is that not the case?

I’d go a step further and say that this year’s Barca team, while maybe the best team in the world currently……they are not, in my opinion, the best of all time. Fabulous, yes. Fabulous to watch, yes. But a team without a plan b.

I think they were a better team a couple of years ago. And that team of a couple of years ago…..the Lions would have had them for breakfast. Fact…:)

  23. Travelling home from work at pre 3pm. Listening to 810 MW and I was amazed at how pro Rangers the mindset remains.

Chico breaks the news that that greatest of benefactors The Rangers – referred to as Rangers by Chico (An oversight on his part I guess) – have offered Hearts 500K (They mistakenly mentioned Templeton) for the money due for Wallace. Richard Gordon had to eek out the important fact that The Rangers had offered this as a take it or leave it offer vis a vis the 800K outstanding proper.

It is at this point getting cascaded as a caring, sharing The Rangers solving Hearts problem for them.

The Fat Jabba the Hut picks up the baton, quickly agreeing about The Rangers magnanimity, and questioning the foolishness of Hearts decision to reject the 500K offer. Richard Gordon mentions the 300K that would go a-begging. The Fat Jabba the Hut gets all vague and mentions administration and liquidation and how 300K wouldn’t matter if they went liquid.

It takes John Robertson to then calmly explain Hearts woes as he knows them – which sounds a lot less worrying than The Fat Jabba the Hut made them. He quickly stated that the The Rangers offer was turned down because people seem confident that the 450K fundraising will be successful. Then the share issue will generate funds to get to summer and then they trim wages and try to manage their debts and their interest – might be true, sounded plausible…

Met with silence and did not toe the company line…
