Brendan Rodgers big decision will be who to fill the gap created by injuries to Alistair Johnston and Anthony Ralston. Colby Donovan (turned 19 last week) is a natural right back who played against Livingston and Kairat. Having come through the development leagues in Scotland, he will also be more than familiar with plastic pitches.
The more experienced Marcelo Saracchi made his Celtic debut when he replaced Kieran Tierney at Ibrox two weeks ago. Marcelo is a left back who has played on the right before. Most expectations are likely to favour the Uruguayan getting the nod but that plastic will play on the manager’s mind. I would be tempted to go with Colby.
It will read as tongue-in-cheek, but we have an interest in whether Hearts drop points at Ibrox tomorrow. The Edinburgh side are joint top with Celtic, whereas the Ibrox outfit are not even in the top six. We are accustomed to looking locally for a challenge but that situation is fluid. Tony Bloom’s Hearts takeover will become relevant soon. Another Ibrox draw would be a decent outcome, although all we can do is look after ourselves.

Whatever is really going on at Celtic, it is still the case that our football is dire and has been for months. There is little, if any, excitement, far less entertainment. Players seem to have regressed rather than progressed. Why? Who is responsible? Imo, it has to be the manager.
Can he turn it around? Who really knows or believes. As Tontine Tim quoted, he was out thought by a rookie manager in the CL. Everybody but everybody knows how to play against us. We have no Plan B.
This is not a boast but I have watched Celtic from Stirling to Singapore, from Motherwell to Milan and many another place, way too many to mention, besides Celtic Park, from the early 50s til the present. I have no axe, personal or otherwise to grind against any particular individual. I am simply stating how I see things.

Genius. Except you probably already know 90% or more on here probably have similar stories. My own dad’s family took me to my first game from Dunning St (now demolished) across the road from the Celtic Club in London Rd. Dad and his 14 siblings lived in a 2 bed Tenement there and went to St Marks in Shettleston until they were 14 or had died in childhood. Not easy for sure.
Social mobility is an interesting thing to hear you champion. It’s great that you feel good to share you and your partner’s comfortable remuneration with everyone. I find it interesting that another self made man like yourself who comes from a similar background and has done as well as you, in some ways, is such a target of your weekly vitriol on here. Peter Lawwell had no silver spoon or privilege……other than being born into a Celtic family like you and I.
He epitomises social mobility and has achieved more for Celtic in a tough job than those before,in that role, who were thought to be better qualified.
Of course he could have done things better and of course you or I would have done things differently. But neither you nor I have ever walked in his shoes and we do not know the brief for sure and we don’t know how we would respond to it. I would hate the job personally. I once thought I would have loved it until I got a bit too close to the action.
Things will change soon regardless of the pitchforks and protests. I hope they are for the better. 17 out of 22 leagues is quite a run. I would love to see another generation like this one.
As I said at the top well done on your success I am sure all in your family are proud of you. There will be a whole heap of posters on here with equally proud families and many looking down at the lives they lead today compared to what was possible back then.

A month ago there was an obvious target but to be honest for me the structure needs fixed.
A head of football with top level football and business experience should be brought in in a board role.
A head coach to align with this In more modern structure.
This would allow for consistent high level football representation.
I would also have a strategy director who has coms under their JD as another board role. Take out a couple of proxy NEDs also.
Personally I think an an exec chair would be better than current CEO and chair as well. So keep cost down a bit to cover a bit for other 2 roles.
As to head coach then for me this kind of structure could allow support for a younger and more ambitious coach. In an ideal world someone with big club experience looking for a big management role now such as Chris Davies was 18 months ago

Ref PL and roots I honestly think you would be surprised. In my experience. Remember we only see a tiny percentage of these folks. Hard to judge and of course the media glare is not his strong suit and they don’t cut him any slack.
What I would say though was when I was involved as sponsor of both sides you had to fight far harder with PL than MB on the other side of the city for value. Every cent was a prisoner to Celtic. Not much ego or big fancy events to try to impress you. As a Celtic fan I kinda thought that was probably good.

I guess it is more than just Celtic who would be agitating for action in the instances you mention as all affected clubs would need to build a case and ensure support for it.
Perhaps it was felt other priorities were more important at that time. Like ensuring the club did not suffer financially for the period of 3-4 years with reduced tv deal / commercial deals / potential to recruit decent talent to a one horse league / lack of fan interest.

From what I’ve seen and read I’m pleased he says he’s fully committed.
However, there’s a concept in economics known as ‘revealed preference’, which is a fancy way of saying “actions speak louder than words”.
Watching our performances against Kairat and R2angers I didn’t get the sense he was fully committed. In fact I’m on record as saying he WANTS the sack.
So, on to Kilmarnock and then a cup tie against lower league opposition.

B78…unfortunately not…ManC, Chelsea, Barca, QPR,Villa, Lyon all come to mind…but they were all accused of breaching UEFA rules and argued it away or were given slap on the wrist fines. Only one team that I know has been caught evading taxes, has been liquidated and allowed to phoenix with all previous titles. You can argue all you want about all the other SPL teams’ reactions…but ours was non-existent…and that is weakness and arguably complicit.
