Celtic will play three familiar opponents in the Champions League group stage: Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. We have a mixed recent record against Barcelona, eliminating them from the Uefa Cup in 2004, but finishing behind them in the Champions League group stage in the autumn of that year. Barca also knocked Celtic out of the Champions League in the round of 16 in 2008. The Camp Nou is the only ground Celtic have managed to avoid defeat on away Champions League duty.
Gordon Strachan’s Celtic eliminated Benfica from the Champions League group stage in 2007 and again in 2008. They also got the better of Aiden McGeady’s current team, Spartak Moscow , in the Champions League play-off round in 2007.
It is a difficult group for Celtic but each of their opponents will be wary of the Celtic.

Before the competition starts in that group, Celtic is the winner.
Celtic is the only chapmion in that group.
At least hearts and Motherwell are acquitting themselves against decent sides in the Europa qualifiers …
The media will say …
Ah he’ll mend yees it’s aw because our beloved Rankers were voted oot!
Well….
Look at the Dutch sides tonight
Feyenoord oot to Sparta
Heerenveen oot to Molde
Az oot to Anzhi
Twente looking oot to Bursaspor
Ibrahim Afellay knocks back Arsenal, Spurs + Liverpool to join Schalke on a season long loan from Barca
FF estimating tonight’s attendance at the Asbestosdome at 20,000.
So they lose over 50% of their crowd in a fortnight?
Good going…

Hopefully Welcome
Ahem…
The debate in the house is which away game should we attend in the CL.
Miss Prestonpans and pal wants Barca but done that one before moreover Benfica is new to us and a chance of a result.
Prediction time. Who will we sign tomorrow??
Johnny Russell £1.8m
Connor Whickham on loan
Christophe Berra loan with agreement to buy next year
and i’d only be happy with the Russell signing

How did Legia get on?
Where was the SSM today then?
Kayal.
I reckon Johnny Russell. Possibly a loan defender.
Slight difference 10 men won the league – Russell has the potential to be a really good player. Fletcher will always be average. If we had bought him we would be lucky to get 3million for him now.

Bid in for Boly today and he is a class CH. Celtic have been working on a target list for weeks. No joy so far today but there will be decent signings.
PL in Turin tonight

With Russell in the £2 million bracket – how much would Celtic need to pay for a player
that wasn’t a ‘squad filler’?
————————————————————————————————————–
I just think too often we have spent stupid money on players that are no better than what is already there and I don’t think Russell is any better than what we have.
This summer we have manged to clear the decks with a load of players who were getting money for doing nothing when in truth that could have been done with the younger players.
You don’y have to spend a fortune to find a player but you can be guaranteed if you shop in the SPL you will pay over the odds
Not impressed by Liverpool tonight. Not sure Rodgers will last long in that job.

We drew in Warsaw 1:1 (very unlucky)
and lost in Trondheim 1:2 with two late goals. Gutted and don’t want to read what the websites tell.
So had we went for our targets yesterday they would have been a lot cheaper, good business innit
Turin?? Hmmmmm,
Turin hmmmmmm this one shrouded in secrecy.
Russell is a cracking player, exactly the type of signing we should be concentrating on.
Del Piero is a legend, a truly fantastic player. But at 37 I don’t see the logic. That said, he will clearly take Enrico Annoni’s mantle as the most popular Italian ever to play for us if he signs.
Vogue.
Ouch! :-)
Anyone able to answer this question? I am planning to head up for the Dundee game on Sat 22nd September. As we are at home on the previous wednesday against Benfica, as opposed to away, is the Dundee game likely to remain on the saturday or will it be switched to the following day?

Well you made a great point about us being champions. Watching the Tic in the CL will cheer you up.
Suarez misses a sitter.
IF we get Del Piero, say for 6 months, it will not bite into the money, the numbers stack up, there would be more season books sold and there will be many more jerseys sold with his name on the back.
And his influence on the young bhoys will be priceless.
For the sake of a few hundred grand, just buy JR, his value will only go up.
very happy last night, very happy tonight and i am sure no matter what happens tomorrow i will be very happy. we are in the UCL where we will play quality teams for the right to progress to the last 16 of the said competition or the last 32 of the EL competition.
our club have all but secured 15 million before even taking the gate into account. we have collected 1 million for an exabition match and about 350k-500k for a qualifier. so about 20 + million
we have basically moved on12/13 fringe players from the wage bill (5 million per year) and we have brought in at least 6.3 million for a centre mid who was not a first pick. we have signed up foster and seen a group of young players such as, tony watt, mcgeogh and filip twa in our first team with more to follow.
by my reckoning, if we keep our remaining players together and manage to sign up a quality centreback we will have had a great summer both on and off the field.
hail hail
Del Pero would be great for the young lions. Still need a good CH though as well.
Italiabhoy,
As someone asked earlier, would you have taken Henke back at that age ?

Hotel Madanis Liceo – 5 mins from Camp Nou – 6 miles from El Prat airport (funny – airport named after a 3rd Div manager?!). Gets good write-ups on Trip Advisor

I once as a wee boy had aspirations to speak to the nation through the wireless.
I used to stand at the end of our close and act out dramas that I had written in the sanctuary that was my world under the living room table. I composed emotional tear jerkers, comedic laughter inducers and action filled murder and ingenious brain teasers.
I played all the parts; from morning to night the men heading for work, clearing their baccy filled lungs down the drain at the edge of the pavement would stop for a moment, light their pipes and give me a penny or two. As the glow from the coal and steel works diffused across the night sky, I would still be there for their return and hopefully another couple of pennies.
I could be hero, villain, heroine, damsel in distress, VICTIM! I could be anything I wanted, but even I knew that if I couldn’t speak in a language that everyone understood, could relate to in their own lives and/or tugged at the demands of their curiosity or imagination, I would have failed AND I would NOT get the few pennies.
I was four years old when I began this life-long devotion to charades and no doubt will still be unravelling the threads of reality as I compose a final scene hopefully a good bit in the future.
BUT. The point is that empathy, communication and connection with my audience was paramount.
Language lay at the core of this.
What language does Chick Young use? Who is his audience? Does he deserve his few pennies? He sounds like a frog croaking in falsetto agony as Gordon Ramsey sticks a red hot skewer up his rectum!
I have no particular truck with Radio Scotland, in fact I quite like it. I like disagreeing with them. I like shouting at the radio. Opinions far and wide are the magnet that attracts audiences. It’s just that with Chick, I can’t understand a bleedin word he is stuttering on about!
Right, back under the table now with my laptop and the Liverpool v Hearts game. (Liverpool DJ played Sunshine on Leith at Half time!!)
BTW it was a stonewall penalty.

hope they dont change it,
it is pencilled in for bucket collection for Oscar..
Ten men won the league? ….
There will be alot of angry fans if nobody is signed?
I’m not angry?
Jordan Rhodes £8.5m £35k per week?
Or tony watt… From the academy???
For £100k ??
I know which one I’m EXCITED to see playing! .
I’d rather we spend on our new bunch of projects like wanyama.. Kayal.. Matthews.. Izzy ..
A centre half or two will do me fine
I was on a date in the horseshoe karaoke one night a coupla years ago and as i finished off my song (Maggie May, I’m rather good don’tcha know) and walked off a guy stopped me and comlimeted me and then told me i looked like Enrico Annoni
I said “Awe Naw, No Annoni Oan Anaw Noo”
He laughed. OUt of politeness i reckon
I don’t think he was a CQN’er.
Date didn’t go well in the end up

you dont think our young bhoys would learn from Del Piero???
I think it would be perfect for them
How many Strikers did Sunderland sign so far?
Connor Wickham worth a punt on loan?
