“Backfill”, that’s the word used during January for practically every transfer. “Yes, happy to sell at that price, but only if we get backfill”. We sold out first choice striker without backfill. That is a ballsy decision for Brendan Rodgers and Michael Nicholson to sign off on.
If we win the league and Scottish Cup, any perceived risk will not merit a footnote when the season is reviewed. An injury, or two, to specific players and the footnote will grow into a paragraph.
“January is a difficult time to do business” is another mantra. Except at Celtic recently. Kuhn, Maeda, Hatate, O’Riley and Johnston all arrived since the Postecoglou era in January. Four of these players are still first choice at Celtic, while O’Riley left for £25m. You can sign quality players in January if you have the recruitment infrastructure in place and do not have a preference for players you have watched in person.
Brendan is a hugely successful and experienced boss. He has managed against or worked with many of the top players in Europe and has an enviable relationship with agents across the UK. He recently brought in David Pleat to add what he needs. Maybe it will all work out fine, but make no mistake, recruitment strategy has shifted.
Jeffrey Schlupp (32) arrived from Crystal Palace, replacing Alex Valle (20) in the squad. Jota (25) came home and has already shown us why. Alexandro Bernabei (24) permanently moved to Internacional in Brazil for a small profit. We will be talking about Kyogo 20 years from now, let’s hope the anecdotes do not include the consequences of allowing him to leave midseason.

I’m completely satisfied with the window. As for Rodgers double bluff…..quite brilliant.

The offspring of mixed marriages…..
Thats a strong statement lol
Post Scriptum
I’m sure we’re stronger. Left back and more positions covered with the signing of Schlupp. Maeda for Kyogo, No. 9 sorted. Khun and Jota on the wings. Idah growing in confidence with every minute on the park. Game time for Kenny. Rodgers has played a blinder sayin we’re weaker.

Sionnaigh, I agree
I will sleep easy tonight, and in a dry bed too

…meanwhile The Daily Rager writes that we got Jeffrey Schlupp up on loan from Leicester City.
They state that as fact three times. Seems Zuckerberg’s sacking of fact-checkers has spread to Douglas Street.
Jeffrey has only been at Palace for 7 years.
Do they pay these muppets for writing this pish or is it all AI-generated now ?
they pay them monkeys peanuts
They aint fact checked nothing since the motherwell born billionaire…
Before that, the only fact checking they done was to make sure it came from murrays email
It’s why they are deed!!
I don’t agree with a lot of what Phil Mac Giolla Bháin says BUT the lack of unbiased and objective journalism on the huns has without doubt led to where they are today
And long may that continue

Just watched the media conference.
Absolutely devoid of drama or pique.
A professional manage comfortably handling the usual.
(I actually thought the quality of questions was a bit better?)
Only times the guy came remotely close to projecting negative emotions was when he spoke about Kyogo.
Comments section hilarious.
Remarkably heavy concentration of mind readers and body language experts.

We couldn’t keep Kyogo. We all know that. He agreed to stay until this window.
We had targets to replace him, we didn’t get them. Something went wrong, we can see that.
Strong squad all retained and a nice addition, perhaps two. Could really have done with a nice loan up front. Arteta (spits) also disappointed in search for striker.
Ps Thanks for that post BOONDOCK SAINT

Good Morning Fholk – Grand Day To Be A Tim
Football this evening, as we host Dundee, we may see our January signings on as subs, maybe Johnny Kenny too…
Pretty sure we will see Adam Idah fill a Kyogo shaped hole.
Just to clarify what I meant when stating that the strategy Has Not changed.
Brendan Rodgers rejoined us, in June 2023.
Peter Lawwell’s statement after our June 2023 financials…
“In the summer 2023 transfer window, we have acquired Hyeok-kyu Kwon, Marco Tilio, Hyun-jun Yang, Odin Holm, Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Luis Palma and brought in Paulo Bernardo and Nathaniel Phillips on loan. The present squad also gives real potential for development with the average age being 24. We parted company with Aaron Mooy, Carl Starfelt, Albian Ajeti, Ismaila Soro, Osaze Urhoghide, Vasilios Barkas, Conor Hazard and Jota. We wish all our former players the best for the future.
Our successfully proven strategy has delivered stability and footballing success over many years and remains the same. We must balance the signing of players that can be developed and sold when conditions are optimal alongside the need to sign players who are able to make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success. The execution of this strategy is increasingly challenging owing to wage and transfer inflation, but this formula has underpinned both our footballing success and financial stability over a number of years now and it is vital that we adhere to it.
Now the point being that our strategy is laid out by our Chairman and I’ve highlighted in bold and that remains the same.
Brendan Rodgers may have modified the recruitment “model”, paying on average more per younger player, players that can be developed and sold when conditions are optimal.
He has brought in more players that can make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success.
Matt O’Riley shows the former still works, while adding real quality to the first team, Kasper Schmeichel proving the latter can deliver real value to the Club.
Yet neither is departing from the strategy.
Adam Idah being off piste, Kasper being a spooky signings, is based on an obsession with a flawed recruitment “model”
The Chairman states that in ’23 “the execution of this strategy is increasingly challenging owing to wage and transfer inflation,
That was eighteen months ago, I’d argue that Brendan Rodgers changes to the Summer 2023 procurement, is actually better at dealing with the stated challenges than the strict model of our 2023 recruitment.
Lenny Mk2 didn’t follow the ’23 model, neither did Ange for his first few windows.
Our recruitment during 2024 was so much better, and whether that was off piste or a spooky signing, it was absolutely on strategy.
Also, the summer ‘23 model is a business model that is not fit for purpose as a footballing model – it is a lazy business model
Our recent discussions have had those who oppose Brendan Rodgers suggest that Gordon Strachan hit the high water mark when qualifying for the knock-out stages of the UCL, likewise Lenny Mk1 when he did the same thing.
Yet none of those successful teams were packed to the gunwales with prospects.
Likewise BR&CO’s invincibles
Likewise the Angeballers.
Utilising a number of methods to identify players has always been the way Celtic has gone about recruitment.
Whether that’s data and analytics, whether that is an experienced scouting network, whether that is players identified by the manager or staff.
It’s all legitimate, and no method is mutually exclusive – as long as they can bring valuable “Celtic class” players in whether they are giving immediate impact and football success, or are able to be developed and sold when conditions are optimal.
You could even get a Kyogo who gave us immediate impact and football success, then was sold when conditions are optimal.
Hail Hail
Good matchday morning from a chilly Garngad.
I think we should have let Yang go out on loan.
I do not see anything in that bhoy, his stats are woeful as well.
Have a good day all and COYBIG
PS Sack the board and move forward.

Yang’s had two vital sublime assists for goals in his last two outings.
No worries you didn’t catch on, no one else could be bothered noticing either.

Just my uninformed guess but I reckon Yang, Kwon and Maik will, this summer, either be sold, go on loan with buy option.
Can’t see Tillo coming back either.
Same with Gustaf.
Brendan has his four wingers.
I reckon a highly rated (possibly pricey) young prospect will come in as the fifth to be the long term replacement for James Forrest.
Yang’s going to be a star, just you wait.
Radio Scotland (which seems to have been banned from Celtic Park: and not before time!) has been giving it laldy this morning on our manager’s perceived annoyance with our lack of signing Kyogo’s replacement.

I’d suggest you look closer to home to find the posts on this board which look more like der Hun with each passing day.
Just read back. Some of the stuff overnight has no place whatever on a Celtic site. Against everything the very word CELTIC stands for.
Good morning from a bright and dry North Staffs.
Just read back and agree with Quadbhoy.
The couple of posts from Sionnaigh are strange if not sectarian in nature.
I can see the Celtic BBC Ban has had an effect :

‘Rangers fans should be excited by Cameron signing’

I see NO EVIDENCE of that whatsoever…so far.
Beautiful bright morning .
Looking forward to the game tonight and to see Kenny and Jeff get some gametime .
Kenny to score 👍
Big Jimmy, game is on PPV tonight
I see we have missed out on Mason Melia ,a young Irish Bhoy.,
Obviously the lowland league is not attractive enough HH
I do think the board are risk averse… but I seriously can’t think of a meeting staring with…
Right.. since 2000 we have won the league 18 times, the Scottish cup 12 times, the League cup 12 times and this season we have had a massive improvement in Europe… We have a top class manager , we are financially secure.. how can we sabotage it?
