Relieved to get last night’s game out of the way. Ross County limited us to few chances. The opening goal was a shot which Erik Sviatchenko didn’t connect cleanly with, a defender tried to block but failed to make contact, only succeeding in blocking his keeper’s view, before the ball found the corner of the goal.
When the added two minutes at the end of the first half were announced, County visibly pulled tighter, waiting on the break. That was a mistake. In the most composed moment of the game, Stuart Armstrong twisted this way, then that, before carving an opening he took with aplomb.
We now have two days to recuperate ahead of the final game before the midseason break; our ninth game of what will be an exhausting month. We’ll talk more about this game tomorrow, it will be far from easy, so please don’t be misled by the 5-1 win over Newco earlier in the season. They are shambles of a football team, but this is a different challenge.
Thanks to everyone who supported our Mary’s Meals appeal for the Sean Devereux Primary School in Liberia this week, we’ve already achieved great things there.
Our Foundation’s big project for 2017, Walfrid’s Wish, launched last night. It’s an opportunity for each of us to join the Foundation in a formal capacity – to be one of its Champions.
I think this is a key strategy for the future of Celtic. We’ve done so much in recent years to bring our founding sentiment back to the forefront of the club. The challenge remains to push the boundaries further, and to keep them there.
To achieve this, for years and decades to come, we need to organise. We need to keep telling ourselves what Celtic is all about, to encourage each other share and live our common values, and – hopefully – make participation in the Foundation an everyday part of being a Celtic supporter for 100% of our community.
On its simplest level, Walfrid’s Wish is a membership scheme. You become a member of the Foundation Champions community. It’ll cost you £3 per month.
I suspect we’re 40% of the way along the road of where we could be as a community, much of that progress has been achieved within the last five years, but we need innovative ways to spread the message. This has an excellent chance of reinvigorating the sentiment that those who gathered in St Mary’s church hall all those years ago.
You can sign up here, go for it.

I have never felt more confident going into a game against doomdome monkeys.
The huns I associate with are keekin their pants about Saturday.
0-6 would be my preferred result.

Last night was, I think, the first home match we have played this season whilst Sevco played at the same time. And thank goodness for that. In front of me, behind me, to the side of me, there were constant updates on their scoreline. Depressing stuff.

MacJay,
I hope you are well.

Very well indeed , my friend in Celtic.
As I hope are you and your loved ones.
I am no admirer of Murdoch or of any unelected person who wields political power because of their wealth.
I should probably have a caveat in there. :-)
P.L. will have his reasons . I would be confident that they are good ones.

Scott Brown: I enjoyed Rangers’ absence
Celtic skipper Scott Brown, says he enjoyed the time Rangers spent outside the top flight.
Scott Brown has mocked Rangers ahead of the Hogmanay Glasgow derby by expressing ambivalence over the return of top-flight football to Ibrox. The Celtic captain will tomorrow travel to the Govan ground on club duty for the first time since the liquidation of Rangers in 2012. But he would offer only a “yes and no” when asked if he had missed this fixture during the four years a reconstituted Rangers spent working their way through the senior divisions, before adding the gentle barb: “It’s been enjoyable when they’ve not been here but you always want to go to Ibrox and beat second-placed in the league.” With a 16-point gap between the clubs, for Brendan Rodgers’ side beating Rangers might well be secondary to the quest to continue the remarkable runs that have allowed them to put together 14 straight Premiership victories and a 23-game unbeaten domestic campaign. “We want to continue the run for as long as we possibly can,” Brown said. “It’s going to be hard going to Ibrox but we have to just believe in ourselves and try to get the three points. We know we are a good team and if we go there and turn up on the day, we can create chances and score goals. It’s about how we play on the day. Of course [a defeat would be a sour note to go into the winter break on] but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. We are a few points clear and we have to go there and enjoy the occasion. It’s fantastic going back to Ibrox but we have a few days to get ourselves ready and focused on Rangers. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there with Celtic. To be fair, I went with Scotland [when Georgia were defeated 1-0 in October 2014] and got applauded for once. I might get applauded again…” Ibrox was the scene of a turning point in Brown’s Celtic career, with the 31-year-old agreeing that his equalising goal in the clubs’ 2-2 Scottish Cup draw in January 2011 changed his relationship with the supporters. The angled-arms celebration which he provocatively did directly in front of Rangers striker El Hadji Diouf ensured cult status both for the midfielder and his pose among a Celtic faithful who previously hadn’t always warmed to him. “Yeah, I’d say so,” said Brown, when asked if the goal was a pivotal moment in his nine years at the club. “It was up with the best goals I have scored for Celtic, especially since we were down to ten men. Rangers were a good strong, physical team back then and for us to come back in the second half and score was big for us. “It fell on to my left foot and luckily enough, I found the back of the net. It was a great occasion as we had to dig deep with ten men and believe in ourselves. We created chances, scored a goal and enjoyed the day.”

I voted Tory rather than the SNP.
I voted Brexit.
Now if the SNP were really wanting to be an Independent Nation, I’d have been very Interested and I would have likely Voted for it.
