Refereeing no longer an unaccountable backwater. CQN Open 2025

99

Video Assistant Referee Alan Muir made a number of high profile mistakes this season and as a result has been relieved of his duties.  Two were judged to have gone against Celtic (both against Daizen Maeda) and one in our favour (in the League Cup Final).

Mistakes having consequences is so radically unusual in Scottish football it is jarring to those who have watched decades of the game here.  This only happens because VAR itself exists, that VAR’s decisions are reviewed and those reviews are published.  This process will not stop mistakes being made, but it should lead to better talent rising to the top and regular poor decision makers leaving our game.

We do not have VAR because of Willie Collum, but this level of professionalism is all down to him.  He has taken Scottish football into the open air.  We are no longer an unaccountable backwater.  Kids, you have no idea what the past was like.

A grand read about a grand day.

At full time on the tv coverage the commentator (Rob McLean?) says “and the long wait is over!”

I watched that clip so many times.

So much so that it became my moniker.

    So now you know…

    ;-)

Trump’s rich pals getting richer, with the pause on tariffs,he’s a gangster

*yip saw that coming and now he’s taking credit for Wall Street having their biggest day since WWII, oh and he’s no a gangster, as his former lawyer Michael Coen once said, “he’s a mobster”.

  5. When Trump hammered the unoccupied Heard and McDonald Islands he put himself and his policies in grave peril…….

You never want to upset ……..The Penguin….

    Got it on last line

Toughie. Any harder and they might get right down to folk like me – one reserve game, back in the late sixties!

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Joes11’s post this morning got me reminding myself …

It is brilliant to have posters on here who’ve lived the dream.

To have been part of the set up at Celtic Park whether Joe’s one game for the reserves or being around some of the Quality Street kids or even, dare I say it, having played for the first team.

    Admiration? Total

    Envious? You bet !!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Coulda been me if not for two tiny things missing from my game

    – talent

    – application

    – athletic capacity

    – the ability to count

  9. Is there no end to the luck these bassas have in Europe?

Taken from a resume of the Europa Cup quarters from today’s Guardian: “Rangers host Athletic Club at a good time. The Basque side have won only two of their last seven, and have lost their last two away European matches. They also have injury concerns in defence, with Yuri Berchiche out and Yeray Álvarez a doubt after the pair suffered knocks in Sunday’s goalless draw with Villarreal.”

Still, the reward for Bilbao, the final at their stadium this year, is hopefully an incentive to stuff the Hun.

Emerald – lol. Don’t sweat it.

Feelgood horse manure for a constituency who are generally short on hope.

Repurposing the Guardian piece on the spot (literally 90 seconds effort) you get the following

“Athletic Club visit R2ngers at a good time. The financially stricken side have lost their last five home games including their last European match. They also have injury concerns in defence, with Pudding “A” out and Pudding “B” a doubt after the pair suffered knocks in Sunday’s tame defeat to Hibernian”

    Blatant insider trading going on.

Appropriate criminal prosecutions will swiftly follow.

    Won’t they..?
