Referees: we can only shine a light

415

I doubt very much if there was a conspiracy between referees in Scottish football over the weekend, that does not happen.  They cross the white line making their own decisions.

Whether they are just terrible, compromised, or perform well in difficult conditions, is not the consequence of some grand plan.  In my view, they are not good enough to do the tasks required and on Sunday inhibited Celtic’s chances of winning the title.

They will close ranks this week, they always do. All we can do is continue to shine a light.

I look forward to your piece on Honest Mistakes.Posters can give opinions on whether or not there is a conspiracy in place in Scotland but you deal in facts and, for me , that is far more important.

  3. Question:

If Celtic released a Statement highlighting the treatment of our team by referees, would that:

    a) Lead to referees being fairer in Celtic games ;

    b) Referees being even more unfair in Celtic games?

Also, would such a Statement receive support or ridicule from the MSSM?

    AN DÚN

it helps Hibs or any other team as a completely neutral ref will not instinctively make margin calls in favour of his team

    —-

I read your original post wrong. Yes that’s fair enough. Foreign referees for some teams and not others may prove problematic. If I’m a Hibee, I don’t want to see Clancy, Beaton and the rest anywhere near my team either.

A weekly review of a referees performance and subsequent demotion for a poor display should be a matter of routine.

The more honest mistakes a ref makes the longer they stay down the divisions. Would Walsh be quite so ready to show that red if he knew he had league one football for the next four weeks to look forward to ?

The refs don’t need to organise a conspiracy.

The selection process gets like minded individuals into refereeing via the institutional bias against Catholics.

The majority of hun refs go with their natural instincts to help them and hurt us.

The small number of Catholics in the ref fraternity know from the treatment meted out to messsrs callaghan, O’Donnell, Delaney and Kevin Toner that if they want to survive or progress in refereeing they must bend over backwards to prove they can be trusted to behave like the rest.

The way the guy craven (not a Tim, by the way) was hounded out after “dougie dougie gate” shows how the system works.

Just my take on how it works. The conspiracy is higher up the tree than the guys on the park who, in my opinion, are just a bunch of biased individuals helping the club they support.

  6. Review of performances and a register of allegiance.

I’m not sure how any Club in Scotland could justifiably resist such basic safe guards as is the practice in England.

  7. After his performance at Ibrox on Saturday Nick Walsh is back in his day job, working alongside the Ibrox stars of tomorrow.

Through the week the SFA referee is a PE teacher at Boclair Academy in Bearsden, a few short miles from the state-of-the-art training facilities at Murray Park.

Over the last five years Boclair Academy has linked up with the football club along the road to combine the sporting and educational needs of aspiring players.

Walsh will be right in the centre of that as a PE teacher, in daily contact, building up relationships to improve the fitness of the pupils at the club who are aiming to break into the first team plans at Ibrox.

That photo is an obvious fake, if we’re talking about the same photo. I don’t know what he does with the Rangers youths, is he not a PE teacher near their training ground, is that where the 2 + 2 = 5? Not saying you have done that but others might have…..

Of course the players have to wise up as far as Scottish referees go especially when playing The Rangers.

I’ve been watching Celtic since 1950, the refereeing last season and so far this season has been the most biased I’ve ever seen, and the bar has been set high by the Scottish refereeing brotherhood over the years.

This season looked like it could have been one of the most exciting in a long time, with us in transition and the Ibrox mob not that good. Hibs and Hearts could have given us and them a run for our money.

The refereeing fraternity look like they have other ideas and after stopping 10 in a row all be it with a big bit of help from NL, PL, The Celtic Board and some of the want away players, they are now intent with awarding them the 30 million quid from the automatic champion’s league group place next season.

Until our board grow a pair it will never change, Scottish football is so corrupt in favour of the 9 year old club you often wonder if its worth the effort both emotionally and financially.

Hot Smoked – Hope you and that young looking brother of yours are both well.

To answer your questions it would lead to referees thinking twice about giving dodgy decisions against us and would therefor result in a more even playing field.

The SMSM are part of the problem, counter it the bad press with stories about them. For example how they displayed that RFC had died in 2012 and yet they display pish about going for 55 and the continuity lie. Or how the treatment of Michael Stewart does not represent a fair minded SMSM.

Challenge them head on like our forefathers challenged the discrimination of Catholics and the Irish Immigrant a cause that we are still fighting in 2021 in fair old Caledonia.

    Date:

    Friday, 24 June, 2016

Rangers Football Club has agreed an innovative partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council that will see the most talented young players combining their academic and football studies in a new and challenging environment.

The Rangers Academy, and indeed the whole football department, has undergone significant change over the last year and work is ongoing with the key objective to create a modern, progressive and innovative football department which is recognised as a leader in the field.

Today (Wednesday, 22 June 2016) the Club is pleased to announce another exciting initiative which will enhance the education and football development options available to our young players and give them the best possible chance to grow as human beings – not just footballers.

From August, 24 of our best youth prospects who are aged 11 to 15 will move their education to Boclair Academy – one of the top performing schools in Glasgow – which will complement their football education at The Rangers Football Centre.

Ex EPL referee Dermot Gallagher appears on Mondays on Sly Sports News and gives his take on contentious refereeing decisions of the prev weekend.

He appeared yesterday and commented that he thought the Porteous challenge was a red, on the basis the defender was not in full control of the challenge and his leg was off the ground.

I think the issue is not whether it was or wasn’t a red. I think it is that the Ibrox club are refereed to a different interpretation of the rules than everyone else.

The issue is that Hibs – in the same match – did not get the benefit of an opponent being sent off for serious foul play, for a challenge similar to that for which Porteous was dismissed.

We all know there is such a thing as a “Hun penalty”, i.e one which is technically within the rules a penalty, but one which no other club would ever get.

Similarly there are penalties which we don’t get, which anyone else would, and penalties awarded against us which no other team would concede.

Today’s leader is basically another Let’s Just Sook It Up At The Back Of The Bus.

Did Sky or somebody else not do this with former referee Dermot Gallagher? He always found their decisions unbelievable and correctly pointed out how poor (biased) they were, maybe that’s why they stopped doing it

Over the years, you have produced some great stuff, most of which I tend to agree. But todays story beggars belief. I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means, where have you been the last 100 years,eh?

Unbiased refs in Scoddland, don’t make me laugh. Of course they are lets say anti us, and pro the other lot.

Check the stats, pens, sending off’s etc and you will be horrified. But the greatest little country in the world is poisoned beyond belief by masonics, orange order and of course, anti Catholic.

The “Dougie Dougie” episode is it only real experience of publicly taking them on. We had cast iron evidence of a cover up, they were caught bang to rights, it was all there tot be played out in the court of public opinion

What happened? The closed ranks, we were ridiculed in the media, the rest of Scottish football stood back, they went on strike and then punished on the pitch with some terrible refereeing. Why would it be any different this time round

If it’s an institutional problem then why would challenging the institution bring anything other than an angry and agressive response. We know you’re corrupt, we demand you change. Bad if you don’t we’ll demand again you change.

If it’s a problem with individuals who do we complain to – the SFA who appoint the referees? As them not to appoint a ref we don’t like to any game that might have a bearing on the outcome of the league?

Paul is 100% correct. All we can do publicly is shine a light on it.

I’d like to know what alternative strategy would work andhow

Watching things once, at full life speed, people make mistakes. People see things, even with the best intentions to be neutral, the way they want to see them. The fact that it could be our perception that is wrong, we mostly remember the injustices against us, that could account for thinking the system is biased against us. What blows all those doubts away is that for a decade Rangers played falsely registered players, paid by illegal means, and didn’t have a single match taken off them. They subsequently died and the people in charge did their damndest to have a new club in the SPL playing under the same name, with the same titles and the same £1 history. Not flash and it’s past. Not “We’re just forgetting the times we benefited .” Cold, calculated bias.

    Reasonable point.

I think the issue is that people see Huns complaining about Collum who is then not given a Hun game for several months in order to go and think about mending his ways.

We have bloggers and individuals whingeing for a few days until the next time. I think people would welcome some kind of club action if only on the basis of a public statement of finding the status quo unacceptable.

Personally, and as an aside, I think Collum is just a terrible referee. He has no understanding of the game and is more likely to issue cards for kicking the ball away than leg breaking tackles. I doubt he played the game at any significant level as a child/youth.

Many of the others are sleekit Hun baskets and are aware of what’s at stake this year.

Previous custodians of our club who took on the establishment such as SRK in the 1950s (albeit assisted by the Huns) and FMcC over Farry would be ashamed of this shower of Hun living toadys.

You have to wonder why we remain silent.

    Quite underwhelming fair today Pablo?

    Respectfully, international breaks are brutal.

    We need spice !!!!

Notwithstanding my 100% hypothetical yesterday I agree with you that there is no organised conspiracy.

These things need organisation (you don’t say) ….. and intelligence to pull off.

The constituency under discussion have neither.

Would challenge your statement that all we can do is “continue to shine a light”

Respectfully, “continue to?” – I must have missed the memo as they say.

As to what shining a light looks like?

    IMHO …

    At the very least ….

a trawl of all grade one referees and their known affinities.

If 85% are indeed Sevco supporters (as proposed by a prominent blogger a few years ago) validate that number and shout it out everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

    At the other extreme,….

if the Celtic board is feeling really bolshie (it won’t !) they may wish to follow the example of another club from three years ago which included the following gems

“the Scottish FA are in no doubt Mr Collum’s judgment was flawed”

“It defies belief that this same referee, who got it so blatantly wrong last Saturday, is awarded one of the biggest matches in Scottish football this weekend”

“This is by no means the first time errors of judgment have been made in matches involving this official and clearly there is an underlying issue which requires to be addressed.”

The best £6,000 ever spent (if the fine was actually paid)

And two charges were Not Proven 🤦

Get our statements written and published now on our top 5 targets … but not before sending the SFA £30k on account beforehand.

  25. Rumours the huns have lost just under £32 million last year. That’s not an unsurprising figure.

If true, that’s £48 million lost in the last two years with this year set to take that figure to over £60 million of accumulated losses in three seasons – if they don’t sell in January.

FFP is a joke if they’re allowed in next season under these fiscal results.

    Squire

What do you hope to achieve and what’s your strategy?

    ———

I would like our club to defend what the support believe to be the best interests of the club.

The issue is that there is a disconnect in what the custodians and the support believe is the best interests of the club.

What we can reasonably achieve is a ship that sailed in 2012.

As I’ve said before, many on here would have us believe Mr Desmond and Mr Lawwell are very clever men and I am sure they are intelligent enough to find a way to address these issues were they minded to do so.

  27. Best referee ever was big Joe Harkins.

Our pe teacher at saint Stephens.

We never lost a game he reffed.

    Pure coincidental.

  28. The story writes itself.

“Pitcure: 6th place Celtic players concede another cheap goal to 9th place Aberdeen on Sunday

Under-fire Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou insisted that after the hoops worst start to the season for forty ten years, and the worst start to any managers career at any club ever he was not looking for excuses to relieve the pressure on him and his failing team.

Meanwhile Parkhead bigwigs launched a searing attack on on Scotland’s Men in Black accusing them of favouritism for title holders and league leaders RRRRangers and being responsible for the gap between their own team and Steven Gerrard’s title holders and league leaders.”
