Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

Me neither but I’m sure the groups I’ve mentioned would be the only one’s with the authority to act on his behalf as the charge has come from the SFA.

    TD67,

    Absolutely agree.

the hand wringing and ” what are the club going to do about this”, is pure buck passing nonsense.

The enemy here is not TRFC. It is the SFA and always has been.

Yet, Hampden is sold out for SFA sponsored games and SPFL sponsored LC against them, .

The CSA and ST have plenty to say on many issues, but, in a situation like this, when a mobilising initiative would send out a clear message, they are silent.

The excuse of only going to the game to support the Bhoys, is ridiculous and doesn’t wash on any intelligent level.

Until the match going support realise that Celtic is not their mammy and get off their collective arses and take on the SFA where it hurts, then expect more of the same.

An empty Hampden may also alert other clubs’ fans to the power they have. A power that other clubs supporters demonstrated three years ago.

    Man up, Celtic fans.

You have to place the RST statement in context it’s written by a hurting exposed racist and bigot who lost his dream job and blazer HH

  4. Compare and Contrast

The FA show remarkable quickness of thought and action in transferring the red card from West Brom’s McAuley to Dawson, after the ref admitted to sending off the wrong player. (BBC online today).

Meanwhile, back in the land (of football) that time forgot, the Scottish FA rescinded the wrongly attributed red card on Paton, but could not see fit to re-allocate it to the guilty player, Butcher, who gets off with absolutely no SFA sanction.

From the same game, Ciftci appeals and gets a pass to play against Celtic.

Neither could the SFA fast track Ciftci’s appeal (oh I forgot…he’s neither a Sevco player who needs to play in an important game against Celtic, NOR is he a Celtic player who might otherwise have played in said important game against Sevco). Is the fast tracking another SFA discretionary process that will only be applied when it suits?

Never fear, that dastardly John Guidetti, a player who has far too much Timmy personality for the SFA comfort, will be hauled before the Star Chamber to account for his temerity in singing a song about himself on a foreign TV football show. The dark hand of the SFA reaches out and will get you wherever you lurk, Timmy.

Celtic – You do really need to step up.

I agree, but, and always the but, the media will not give our trust any coverage, they will do what they always do, and back the hun.

One of our players is involved here, not a fan, the club have to back him to the hilt on this.

    HH.

Oh I agree with you on that and your prob. Right, there seems to be more people interested in politics here than the club, Ffs, some ar still talking about the referendum, I kid you not. So it’s makes me wonder if the fight was there, if they held up more for the cub and its players like the do when they go after PL and the board, they could prob. Make a fist of it, but there are some in here who will do nothing unless you sign a petition for there agenda, my how things have changed.

    Lifted from Scots law:

Which Former Directors of Rangers plc might be Disqualified as not “Fit and Proper”?

Every director and office bearer of Rangers going back to the 15th February 2007 falls foul of the 5-year pre-insolvency rule.

    That list is as follows:-

    Craig Whyte

    Dave King

Quite how is Mr Murray, who is at the head of the “Blue Knights” going to get round this issue?

Mr Regan has made it clear – all he needs to do is to fill in the form and say that he is a fit and proper person! The problem is solved!

not wishing to stir up the referendum debate again (still?) … but I noticed that Barbados has decided to become a republic, and remove Lizzie as head of state.

  22. I could have swore Paul Murray could not take part on any board of directors, then again! They have no nomad? Would that make any difference? It’s a strange one to be honest.

  23. I’d suggest that anyone who’s promoting the idea of fans’ groups fighting this battle that you badger those in leadership positions into highlighting the issue.
