Refreshed looking Hatate back in control

241

There was plenty to fret about in the first half.  Celtic’s passing was hesitant and unable to prize a solid Motherwell shape open.  It wasn’t until Yang competed for a loose ball which never should have been his in stoppage time before the break, that the game changed.  Motherwell keeper, Oxborough, tried to make the ball his, but only succeeded in clattering into Yang.  Arne Engels scored with the resultant penalty kick.

Nothing worked for Daizen Maeda in the first period, but when Liam Scales got a near-post flick on a corner early in the second, Daizen was all alone to head into the empty net.

A refreshed-looking Reo Hatate came on just after the hour, along with Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn.  All three improved Celtic, as the game decisively slipped away from Motherwell.  Kuhn, on his return from injury, and Hatate, scored late on to emphasis Celtic’s strength in depth.

With the two teams below them both losing, Celtic’s lead at the top of the table stretched to 12 points.  The title race is certainly not over after only 17 games, but this Celtic team have a formidable look about them.

  1. Looking forward to Collum’s explanation of why a kick to the head isn’t a pen…

The league is done, no doubt.

  2. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Reo looked very good when he came on.

He benefitted from the space available to open the game up.

Genuine compliment to a smashing footballer.

    Team game though.

Credit also due to the guys that ran the legs off the Motherwell midfield beforehand.

Sky certainly didn’t consider the kick in the head to be worth including in this morning’s ‘ref watch .’

Not you as well, Paul! What is this title race? What sort of points total do you think Celtic will end up with? Low 80s? That would take some collapse!

  9. Hola amigos from the BIG EASY bar restaurant PDC lanza 🍸😎🥳cocktails are going down a treat and Mr M’s have been served with Champagne also 😋 What’s not to like.

  10. Problem with having a largely settled team is that it can be difficult for fringe players to make an impact when they are called to start games. With more game time those such as Tony Ralston can be more effective. And players such as Engels, Kuhn and Hatate can also benefit from being on the sidleines. For a while it has been all about accumulating points creating a gap which would lessen say the impact of say a scoreless draw up at Tannadyce, well for some of us at least. That said to be twelve points clear before the last game of the calendar year is a terrific achievement, moreso if we hit fifty points before the half way mark.

  11. We looked a bit sharper yesterday, hopefully AJ can get 45 minutes on Sunday before we go to Poundland, be difficult to play Trusty ahead of Scales right now IMO

    Canny take it F.C.

Spent the feast of Stephen wildly deflated and deflected from their own deficiencies, they continued the day job of being beaten by provincial clubs the length and breadth of their own perfect Premiership hell. St.Mirren lying in wait, only three or four stops along the motorway care free nothing to worry about other than a game of football back in the real world.

Convincing yourself, all that’s wrong was ‘a missing penalty’ spectacularly backfired, supremacism, arrogance and entitlement, not the world’s worst ever football decisions consume Sevco like it did, the Rainjurz. Mental arithmetic and gymnastics working overtime on the gap took up their festive season, but Phillipe’s flop to fantastic and back again and ‘ three more old firms ‘ a new favourite for his headstone.

From highly praised hoofing it, to hoof it again anyway, we witnessed, tell them it’s a conspiracy and we always get robbed. The gullabillys, bought it, Kings Park and VAR names are the least of their worries, there’s not a team like The Soft Loan Arrangers, no not even one.

  13. Howdy all – on flight GLA to LHR and weather delayed.

Otherwise – everything is just braw!

  14. Parts of the team still getting to know each other , for me we should vary our attack a bit more , Callum needs to look right more often and feed Arne , too often yesterday first half the default ball was left to Greg / Daizen , with Arne free looking for the ball

  15. Guys,

I thought Anthony Ralston was our MOM yesterday.

Is Boxing day an appropriate time to attend footie ?

Loads and loads of empty seats for a variety of reasons.

Many left early to head to the pub.

The conclusion must be that its a good day to watch footie but not to actually attend.

    HH.

PS : Free sausage rolls in the Drover after the game went down a treat.

  16. that talk last week, because they managed a draw in a national cup final, which having watched again, they should never have been allowed to equalise again, really bad defending from us, that there was somehow 2a title race on again”, i mean seriously how big does a gap need to be before you admit its not going to happen for you.

3 WINS, 1 DRAW first game of the season

Losses at Celtic Park, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren.

scoring only 7 goals in 8 away games,

and now 3 more away games in the next 4 games, Motherwell, Hibs and United with only Celtic at home.

all 4 teams with better performances than thems.

Why would anyone , in the media think they are in a race, were in a race or even got the running shoes on , theirs is a jog roon the public park, ours is breaking the world record for the marathon.

and wait and see if anyone is sold in January, and what kind of fees will be received, fire sale to keep the lights on and reduce the wage bill again.

as to big phil, if he thiks the sfa/referees/var are out to get him, he should try a diginified silence on the touchline rather than badgering the 4th asisstant at every decision.

A loss at ibrox, i honestly dont care anymore, just be safe, it wont matter to the big picture outcome.

As another year draws to a close the search for that damned elusive handsome hun continues. And after looking at the specimens from Hampden and Paisley this may be a futile quest.🙄

that was a powerful watch, what an inspiration wee isaac is. i tried to not get too teary, but when his mum says “he doesnt have a favourite, he loves them all”, well there is a lesson there, unconditional support.

Good win on St Stephens day and in agreement with your comments regarding Liam Scales one of the most improved players in the Celtic squad under BR and has never lost a derby match, no doubt an interesting reception awaits him on Jan2nd.

Who will it be in central defence the Wicklow stalwart or the Yank?

  20. St Stivs

If we did win on 2nd January then there is a very real possibility given that lot go to Aberdeen Heerts Kilmarnock and Tannadice in the 3rd phase of games then we could literally win the league by beating them in St Patrick’s weekend at CP.

  21. The Scottish Cup game and Young Boys games back to back in mid Jan are huge.

They will probably determine if we have anything left to play for until May.

It could be a treble and a best ever in the CL. Or it could be content ourselves with another league and League Cup double. Kilmarnock in a one off game should be winnable but 4 days before our biggest CL game in 11 years makes it a wee bit tougher I think.

  22. lets all do the huddle on

on the plus side the wifi worked not too bad yesterday. probably due to the lack of folk in the stadium
