Regan footloose and disingenuous with the facts

456

Stewart Regan is today telling the media that only one club wants a review of what happened at Rangers during recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie’s tenure as a director of the club. I think we can amend that slightly to read: only one LEAGUE of 42 professional clubs want a review of what happened.

It is utterly disingenuous for the SFA chief executive to portray the SPFL’s request for a review as a one-club issue. Regan is seeking protection in the amateur clubs’ numbers, ALL OF WHOM receive patronage from the SFA, against the wishes of the country’s only professional league.

You will remember how Sepp Blatter used the power of patronage with tiny Fifa nations to secure his grip on due process. Fifa money was spent and magnificent stadiums built where football scarcely had a foothold at the whim of Blatter, who enjoyed unquestioning support from micro-nations’ Associations.

When a chief executive uses the numbers in the amateur game, to outweigh the wishes of the 42 club professional league, for a review into what took place while a recent past president was a director at an errant club, you have all the ingredients for an abuse of patronage.

Stewart, all we’re asking for is a review, don’t pretend the country’s only professional league structure doesn’t exist.

  1. STV NEWS,

All those Huns getting themselves in a lather yet again.

    HaHaHa.

  2. If Hibs are a sign of things to come and we are on our own, then it truly is the beginning of the end and we are done up here. Its ok to cheat us we will forgive you.

    Weirdtimes.

  3. Not surprised on the actions of Hibs, Petrie is on the SFA board, still talking about EBT’s i see, the governance of the game has been missed by them

  4. these guys milne and petrie are masons, they must be why else would you take a bath in the crap they have put up with for the past 6 years and still want more.

    its stinks.

  5. I wonder what the Hibs manager thinks of his Club’s statement?

Remind me again, who is in line as next President of the SFA?

  6. STV NEWS a moment ago.

    Regan interview.

He was asked about the 5 way agreement being made public ?

He replied that if the others who are part of it wanted it published, then so be it ( or words to that effect)

He was asked about refusing the SPFL call for a Review ?

his reply…” SPFL represent 42 clubs….BUT those clubs are under The SFA membership”.

    or words to that effect.

  7. How much clearer does it get ?

These people respect only money. That is their God.

And the decision facing our fans is made easier by that realisation.

Do Celtic fans continue to spend money at the grounds of clubs who would willfully distort or position, or act so blatantly in self interest, without regard for the game itself ?

If you are funding this it’s time you stopped to think about what that means.

The power IS in the hands of the fans … ours most especially.

  8. So the wagons will now circle and the only power in the game is on their own, the clowns all back each other. We look to be either isolated (which wont matter as its always been the case) or we are working our ticket. If we reach an impasse surely UEFA will have to intervene or is that it?

  9. Mike In Toronto…………..Glad you are enjoying your Dublin holliday. The weather has been very good up to recent days. You should check out Ronnie Drew’s Dublin on youtube. Some great places and ballads by Ronnie and the Dubliners.

  10. The only good thing here is it may encourage other clubs to now come out and state their position.

  11. I cant remember Celtic ever being at such long odds of 11/1 to win v PSG ?

Can anyone advise what the average bookie odds were when we have played barca at Celtic Park ?

I wonder how many of our players will be assaulted by both Hun players and fans a week on Saturday ?

Sadly I have the feeling that the last three words you said are what will happen.

    Move to Ireland

  13. But WeeBobby what if they all say we don’t want a review and we are happy to be cheated? where does that leave us?

Very surprised by hibs and I think herts will follow suit.

  14. For what it’s worth, here’s the email I fired off last night to JP Taylor, our supporters relations officer. I’m not I one of the more proficient wordsmiths that participate on this fine blog but still felt good putting the message over to our club. And incidentally I received JPs reply this evening to say “Many thanks [JOBO], I will of course pass on, very much appreciated”.

Anyway, for what it’s worth –

    Hi John Paul,

I am writing to you as a follow up to the official Statement released by Celtic on Saturday lunchtime.

I would like you, as liaison officer, to pass on my sincere thanks to The Board for a very well worded explanation of where they, sorry, WE stand as a Club in relation to these issues. In recent years I am sure that you may have received a deluge of emails criticising our apparent inaction and ‘demanding’ that The Board come out and say something. So I though ti only right to then try to contact the club to congratulate them when they’ve done something right. In any event, personally I was always of the opinion that such actions had to wait until the various relevant court cases had run their course.

I am particularly pleased that our Board have emphasised that an inquiry is necessary, regardless of whether or not that may lead to any sanctions or punishments. Equally, I am confident in my own mind that if a proper enquiry does eventually happen, then one of the main issues that will naturally emerge is that fielding an improperly registered player leads automatically to a reversal of the score to become a 0-3 defeat. That isn’t a punishment that needs to be specified in the SFAs rules – it’s one that is universally applied across the globe. If, as a consequence (note – not a punishment!) any titles are taken away from Rangers then that is simply what happens when proper due process is applied.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it finds its way to those responsible for our excellent statement.

    Hail Hail

    [JOBO].

  15. Yes,

maybe its time for not only our players to Boycott playing for Scotland, but also for Celtic fans to boycott every away game ?

Only my opinion Bhoys and Ghirls.

  18. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

What the hell was Regan doing at the champions league draw?????

    More grassroots football shafting.

  19. Many of us are descended from nations that knew sever persecution, and I do not mean just those of us who are of Irish descent. We have suffered in the past but we have never been defeated. I am sure supporters from other persecuted nations could tell similar stories like this one. My people were driven out of their homes and left to fend for themselves on the cold mountain tops of Wexford in winter. One sect of our clann was decimated by Cromwell’s troops. But we still survived.

Today we are being encircled by those who have no time for Celtic. They will do anything to crush us but they will learn that we do not give up easily. We need to stand shoulder to shoulder once again.

Perhaps we could start by emailing Peter Lawwell to say that we will not give up and we will be with him in the fight ahead. If need be there are those of us who will contribute no matter how little we possess to help in any way we can. We know our day will come and we are ready.

  20. Can anybody help

I need a copy of The Neilly Mochan Story in my hands by Friday

One I ordered got lost in post and there is not another copy to be found on anywhere online

  21. Hibs Statement demonstrates what I have always believed, We are fighting this battle alone.

That is why I get incensed at some Posters here advocating actions which would hurt Celtic.

Now is a time to put past internal differences behind us, I would urge those who are operating their own Boycott of games & merchandise to return & together we will go from strength to strength.

I now believe our long term future is outside of Scotland but it could take years before that transpires in the meantime our revenge will be the laughter of our Supporters as we dominate Scotland until a suitable International League is given the go ahead.

  22. Kevinlasvegas…it leaves us on our ownsome–but at least it is clear…let’s see what happens now and what support is given from other fans…interesting times.

  23. I said it 5 years ago, pull all players from their competitions, at the time we were all divided and thought the board were compliant and part of the 5 way agreement, turns out we were wrong and now we are all united, I think meetings with club and fans are the next step. AGM coming up and let’s put our heads together. it has to be all or nothing and I get the angle that its not fair (stop laughing) on players missing out on caps etc.

The gloves are off now gentlemen and I await Celtic’s response to today’s media spin and lies from the SFA.

    KLV

  24. The whole thing stinks. We should saddle up and get the hell out of Dodge, a corrupt league is unsustainable, therefore we should be looking to get out and join another league, personally for the one and only time I’d be all for us emulating sevco and going on a journey, except it would be across the border in England.

If we quit the SPFL because we have no confidence in the governing body playing with a straight deck, and by now we should have plenty of evidence to back that up, we could do a Swansea or Cardiff and apply to join the English league because our own isn;t worth tuppence. Dermot must have contacts in England so he should be sounding out how they would react to us quitting the SPFL and applying to join their league.

Something radical needs to be done here – if we just accept it and move on we are being complicit in a corrupt league – put back in our place – under the heel of the hun forevermore.

  25. Hibs Board shaming the very name of their Club.

    Shocking.

Time for Easter Road Boycott along with every other way ground in Scotland methinks.
