Regan footloose and disingenuous with the facts

456

Stewart Regan is today telling the media that only one club wants a review of what happened at Rangers during recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie’s tenure as a director of the club. I think we can amend that slightly to read: only one LEAGUE of 42 professional clubs want a review of what happened.

It is utterly disingenuous for the SFA chief executive to portray the SPFL’s request for a review as a one-club issue. Regan is seeking protection in the amateur clubs’ numbers, ALL OF WHOM receive patronage from the SFA, against the wishes of the country’s only professional league.

You will remember how Sepp Blatter used the power of patronage with tiny Fifa nations to secure his grip on due process. Fifa money was spent and magnificent stadiums built where football scarcely had a foothold at the whim of Blatter, who enjoyed unquestioning support from micro-nations’ Associations.

When a chief executive uses the numbers in the amateur game, to outweigh the wishes of the 42 club professional league, for a review into what took place while a recent past president was a director at an errant club, you have all the ingredients for an abuse of patronage.

Stewart, all we’re asking for is a review, don’t pretend the country’s only professional league structure doesn’t exist.

But individual players can retire from the national game – not that it will happen.

It will be interesting what Celtic’s next step will be – not sure of our options

The huns used to withdraw players on a regular basis from scotland squads, not a peep from the sfa, do you think we could do the same ?

Well we know why with them. Now,you have to be injured, really injured. You see the International doctor.Withdraw without reason or medical exemption, you cant play for your club next game.

    Anyway TET,players want caps.

  6. TET

I think that if a player is unavailable for international then I think they cannot play for their club before a number of days after the international

  7. Thomthetim…you are probably not far off the mark with that…it’s a problem in a wee country like ours…so many of these businessmen are interlinked in one way or another…even attending the same ludge…

  8. Wee Fergus, as ever, pointed us in the right direction. When we complained about the Cadette registration debacle, we were told that 2 or 3 internal SFA enquiries had cleared Mr Farrybof any wrong doing. Clearly not satisfied, Fergus took them to court and Farryband the SFA folded in a

If memory serves me correctly, big Hands took the SFA to court over the transfer ban and won.

We all know how shrewd Big Peter is.He would have known all about this before starting.

As ever in life ordinary people who have been pooped on from a height by those in power will have to do it themselves. No use waiting for our ‘betters’ to do it for us. They never have and never will.

Really disappointed in Hibs Board but not a bit surprised.

I know the rules re players, just thinking aloud that the rules wouldn’t be, or weren’t applied when the huns withdrew players from the scottish team.

A bit like getting licences to play in euro comps when the sfa know fine well they are not entitled to one, they even did so this year as an in your face to the scottish game.

Go get them Pedro, you know it makes sense and it’s the right thing to do.

  14. I for one will never stop going to home and away game’s, to watch the Hoops, other clubs can do what they like,Celtic Football Club, have always been on there own,no friends with other Clubs, Celtic go for the S F A,get rid of the lot of them, and forget about title stripping with the Huns,,we know they are cheats,Peter lawell will do what is right for the club and the fans.

  15. Lots of anger being expressed tonight and rightly so. Milne and Petrie being obvious candidates, but let’s not waste time with them. They’ve shown their hand, as expected, so no-one should be surprised. Fans of their clubs will have their own ways of letting them know what they think of their cowardice. I know for a favt that many Aberdeen fans are disgusted with Milne, and the SFA and have been very vocal. If Milne thinks they’re just going to go away, then he’s probably guilty of underestimating the depth of feeling……..and make no mistake – Dons fans are not aggrieved because they feel any empahty towards Celtic. They’ve been cheated, they know they’ve been cheated and they don’t like being dismissed by their own chairman. He’s been forced to change his mind once because Dons fans wouldn’t accept his lenient stance on Newco FC.

I don’t know for sure, but I’d be very surprised if there aren’t very vocal agitators at most other clubs. Time will tell if they’re serious about supporting the need for change. Most of the Dons fans I’ve spoken to don’t seem to be ready to back down just yet…….

  16. I was brought up in a part of the world where the masons and football were not one and the same, I can tell you that Milne is an ambitious goat fiddler, building his houses take precedence over his love for Aberdeen FC by a country mile, his goat fiddling connections will be putting pressure on him for sure to toe the cabalistic line.

How do I know all this, my Da told me, he also knew what he was telling me.

  17. TIMBHOY1:

If you are determined to attend games at grounds where the club chairmen think we’re a joke … then, with all respect, you aren’t in a position to demand that the club itself does a single thing.

  18. 100 agreement James,

you are saying it fine to cheat us, here take my money even though i hate you and know you cheated me.

    Madness.

Probably a coincidence, though you never know, but one of the greatest sporting movies ever made is on Film 4 right now. That said there is no greater sporting story, than our own, that of Celtic Football Club. A Club formed for all the right reasons, who, whatever else is going on is playing one of the greatest football teams , from one of the World’s greatest cities, ever put together. That is right, we are playing the mighty PSG, us, not the Huns. not Hibs, not Aberdeen, not the SFA, not the SPFL, but us, thanks to our own efforts. Brother Walfrid, just like Ray, knew if we built the stadium, they, we, would be there, we were, we are and we will, be there.

God bless all who have ever been, and God bless Celtic Football Club.

  22. My thoughts Gene and Exiled. the highest impact is bhoycott. hit their pockets it wont affect the chairmen but it will impact their clubs and may mobilize the fans more.
