Regional League concept gets an airing

257

Interested to read that “issues, such as the Regional League concept” were discussed at the 29 club European Club Association meeting, held at Celtic Park yesterday.  12 of the 13 nations present would all benefit from the regionalisation of their leagues, while Wales (and England) already participates in a regional league.

We’ve seen a few campaigns similar to this – with the objective of delivering Celtic out of the confines of Scottish football, but this approach is different.  It seeks to build an alliance with similarly disenfranchised clubs across the continent.  The Austrians, Czechs and Slovaks would benefit from playing in Germany, the Scandinavians would benefit by grouping together, while the former Yugoslavian teams have long acknowledged the merits of resurrecting a Yugoslav-regional league.

I was a wee bit surprised that the “Regional League concept” discussions were acknowledged.  I heard they’ve been on-going for some time but no one wanted to discuss in the public domain.  This will have been a considered comment, designed to move the debate beyond those present at the meeting.

Many thanks for the tremendous response to our auction appeal to build a fourth school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  The kitchen will be at Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which has 909 children enrolled.  Will bring you more details when I have them.

The auction is for two debenture hospitality seats at the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Club sponsor, Magners.  It closes Friday morning, so keep an eye on it here.

Linda Croker has asked me to pass on her sincere thanks for all the support received for Sean’s Trust and the memory of St John Doyle from the CQN community. I know the last year has been enormously difficult for the family but your many small gestures have meant a lot.

  1. Good evening friends.

Auldheid – in the unlikely event that a Glasgow team other than Celtic or Partick win this year’s Scottish Cup would that allow them to compete in the Europa league next season?

  2. TD .. thoughts and prayers for your brother’s complete recovery. As one hoping to get back , weather permitting, on Saturday for the first time since my heart attack in August, I know how your brother must be longing to return to CP..

Fans asked to support foodbank collectionBy:

    Newsroom Staff on 29 Oct, 2014 15:59

A FOODBANK collection has been organised by the Green Brigade at Celtic Park this Saturday, November 1, ahead of the game against Inverness Caley Thistle.

The collection is for the Glasgow NE Foodbank (Trussell Trust), and supporters are asked to support it with donations. The current most-wanted items are: sugar, UHT milk, UHT juice, toilet roll, tinned fish, tinned fruit, tinned custard/rice, tinned meat, biscuits, baby food, nappies/wipes, toiletries, soap, toothpaste etc… Cash donations are welcome.

There are a number of collection points at the stadium – the bus park and also at various points outside the ground – and there will be volunteers there from 11am on Saturday to accept the donations.

Celtic have supported the ongoing work of the Trussell Trust, and a donation of £50,000 was made to the Trussell Trust by Celtic FC Foundation last year, and the club is delighted that such a great cause in continuing to receive such support.

CQN has been a massive part of my Celtic Life these past five years so thank you Paul 67 and to every CQN’er who posts here and is involved in all the worthwhile causes that we’re involved in.

The CQN folk that I have met in person had been the epitome of what I call proper Celtic men and women, a tradition handed down to me as a wee Bhoy growing up in Carfin, folk that would go that extra yard for a friend in need.

I am happy and honoured to be part of this very special community within the wider Celtic community..

    Viva CQN, Viva Celtic…

    Outstanding, amongst other great posts.

I also await, the presentation that my club, Celtic, makes about the first match we ever have to play against the new Ibrox team. If they proclaim the same myth, than I am finished with actively going to Celtic matches again. My decision only and not one I seek to impose on others and, because of that, it will be made on my terms.

What presentation do you expect Celtic to make about the first match Celtic play against the newest Glasgow Club?

Secondly, where and how would expect to learn of, or read Celtic’s presentation?

I ask because if it’s such that it makes you never want to actively go to a Celtic game again, then I’d expect that the presentation would need to be of a history making nature of which we’ve had no earthly inkling.

I think you ( and I ) will be disappointed but not feart.

Very infrequent poster here.Felt I had to post. The near hysteria that the darkside are nearly as good as us is doing my nut in.

Granted we are a million miles from where I want us to be, but, Hearts and Hibs have embarrassed them already this season.

We totally demolished a Hearts who are by far the best team in that league.I for one would LOVE to meet them in the cup.Only one winner, Hail!Hail! #getagripcelticsupportersclub

I’d prefer giving him (and others) a cut of a future transfer fee – say 10-20% depending on length of service. The more we get the more they get. If they let their contract run down and leave for no fee then they get nothing.

I don’t see why it would have to be so earth-shattering. I know that Celtic hav less freedom to make big pronouncements than we do as fans.

Merely confirming that the status of the new club remains questionable and avoiding all reference to past games against the club they claim to be derived from would be a good start.

There is no need for the type of comment that DD made about Rangers being a club with a long history. That is actively promoting the myth.

I do not expect my club spokespeople to make rabble rousing statements. They have to be a bit more respectable than that. But they do not need to positively promote the continuation angle by referencing past games against them.
We will, each of us, have our own expectation.

    I would accept something like.
“Tonight we welcome a club from Ibrox that has worked its way through the divisions since 2012.”

    or, a bit stronger

“This club is supported by fans who supported our former rivals from the club who were liquidated in 2012.”

or, if that is too strong.

“The club we face today are the subject of much controversy and it is unclear if they can be legally seen as a continuation of the club that used to play out of Ibrox.

    ”
What would you accept?

    .

I would accept that the inaugural meeting between Celtic and the new club, whenever it occurs is billed precisely that inaugural/initial/maiden I’m not fussy as long as a word meaning ‘first’ is recorded for posterity, and archived in Celtic’s history forever.

At the moment I maintain that when it does happen it’ll be away from Celtic Park. However, if we concentrate on CP then I want Celtic to use a writer to find the correct words. Like you, I don’t need Celtic to do a Gettysburg address or recall how it all unfolded, just so long as our children’s, children see that Celtic perpetrated no mythology about the club that passed, 2012.

Whatever the presentation or if there is something that can be referenced as a presentation, I doubt there’s much chance of you not actively going to CP. I believe from a good source the presentaion will be minimalist, subtle and may fall short of the expectations

    Hail Hail
