Relentless pillage of transfer stories wearisome

802

News (confirmed by his club) that our next Champions League opponents Juventus have opened negotiations with Athletic Blibao striker Fernando Llorente, ahead of a possible free-transfer move in the summer, appears to put recent fantasy stories about Gary Hooper supposedly moving to Turin in the correct context.  Liverpool, who several newspapers also ‘reported’ were interested in Hooper, signed a different striker this week.

The relentless pillage of Celtic player’s names used to sell newspapers is wearisome, probably more so to those at the club hoping to convince Hooper, and Victor Wanyama, to sign new contracts.  Chances of re-signing Hooper if he thinks Juventus and Liverpool are about to bid for him: 0%. Chances if it’s relegation battlers from England: considerably higher. I see a new front has been opened today on Beram. We have to ensure another 28 days of this nonsense.

Llorente is a current Spanish international and played a huge part in Atheltic’s march to the Europa League final last season, but I would not be too concerned if Juventus tried to secure him this month.  Moving to Turin is notoriously challenging for strikers and Llorente has never been based outside of the Basque country.

As I said to Mort,it’s a bit of a habit if there is a game on the box,you will be inclined to watch it.

My nose was in a Gin&Tonic and didn’t notice how many were watching the game, but as I walked through the loungues from the North East entrance to North West Lounge 1,there must have been over a thousand in the lounges and most were watching Annan trying to beat the other team.

  2. Kayal or Bown debate?

One makes a positive difference to the team and the other saunters around with little effect.

    Brown for me.

corkcelt – McGinn got his chance with us and blew it due to some incredibly wasteful finishing. Gowser looked a better prospect than him at the time. He’s found his level now and we should wish him well, especially as he is a massive Tim. Keep seeing him at home games!

McGeouch is a very exciting young talent and needs to be developed in the right way.

  8. FURTHER TRANSFER NEWS!!

Following Celtic’s stunning coup in securing the services of Italian bad boy Mario Balotelli until the end of the season, the Parkhead club have raised further eyebrows by poaching their former Glasgow rivals, The Rangers, for their top scorer and talisman, Lee McCulloch.

McCulloch will move to Parkhead for an inital fee of £8 million, potentially rising to £12 million.

McCulloch is quoted as being “overjoyed” at the move to his “boyhood heroes” and is “relishing the opportunity of playing under Neil Lennon” and appearing before the “magnificent Celtic fans”.

Ally McCoist, The Rangers manager, is quoted as being “bitterly disappointed”, but was “realistic, given the form Lee has displayed in Division 3 all season.” McCoist added that it was “inevitable that a big club would come knocking with an offer the BDO lawyers could not refuse.”

“there must have been over a thousand in the lounges and most were watching Annan trying to beat the other team.”

That would suggest, to me, that the lounge managers were giving Celtic fans what they want. If a majority were objecting, then another channel would have been provided I guess.

Therefore, I think it is a shame but not really the chairman’s fault ( he has many others though) rather the habits of our fans.

  11. I wonder if sevco will be offering incentives to any players who pay up their own contracts, thus making them free agents and therefore eligible to sign for sevco in September?

Just like yourself Sir, I have no concrete evidence of man utd, or any other side actively pursuing SB

Probably unlike yourself, I reckon its because they ,( like me,) think he is not worth the transfer fee or the wages

But if I waited until I had firm concrete evidence for everything, then I wouldn’t be able to have any opinion on anything

For example I reckon rangers are going through the liquidation process, however I have never personally see any original signed documenatary evidence to support that claim, but I still reckon its true. Opinions who needs them eh?

    Y question to AT

    Alex,

Firstly happy new year to you and your family.

Would you be kind enough to explain your comments in paragraph 4?

I ask this because I read your blog for the latest factual information and explosive journalism, however, in my opinion this paragraph lets down the majority of your followers.

To suggest that “The Rangers” is the same club as the old club infuriates me as they lied, scammed and cheated every other club and subsequently ruined Scottish football.

I ask you if this really is the same club?Should they really be parading those brave British soldiers around Ibrox like some sort of circus parade when they have knowingly not paid their tax contributions, thus jeopardising every one of their lives in combat?

The reality is “The Rangers” is not the same club.

“The Rangers” are a new entity who applied to play football in Scotland’s 4th tier, and where successful in their application.

Alex, you actually contradict yourself in the same paragraph!

You state ” Rangers won’t die”, then you go on to say the club was “unsaleable and liquidated”

The term “liquidated” as I know it means bringing the subject to and end!

This old club has brought so much shame on “the best wee country in the world” and must now be summoned the the history books.

“The Rangers” chief executive is a dangerous rabble rouser and hops from one side to the other regarding the continuity of old club whenever it suits financially.

“The Rangers” director of communications stated several facts that The old club is now defunct.

Old club players moved on to keep employed. Stating at the time It will never be the same club.

Alex, in my opinion you are far off the mark on this loose piece of infactual and aggrevating literature.

I feel you have done yourself and channel 4 a great injustice.

I cannot help but presume there is something more underlying in this story?

    Regards

    TKV67

  14. I suppose it helps to think of transfer rumours as a form of entertainment. :-)

Yesterday we all saw that Neil Lennon has trust in his younger players by bringing on Watt, McGeouch and Rogne at critical points in the match.

Now that the points have been won are we allowed to have a laugh at the late defensive mix ups? Perhaps due to a number of players being fatigued at the end.

In your original post you did not say “In my opinion no clubs want to sign Scott Brown”

What you said was:- “the fact that English teams are not sniffing around SB might indicate how often they think he has made a difference.”

  19. Steinreignedsupreme on

Talksport understands The Rangers have turned down offers in excess of £70m for a trio of unnamed youngsters (unnamed, because no one knows who any of their players are).

Club owner Charles Green said: “We spoke to players as it is only right to inform these lads when other club’s unsurprisingly make offers to buy them. But they all said they wanted to stay at Ibrox and play in front of £80,000 people every week.

“The lure of playing in the Second Division next season was also a major factor. We have made many friends here in the SFL and none of the clubs are like Dundee United.

“Other clubs in Scotland would have taken the money, but Ally (McCoist) already has £10m to spend next January and there is also the £20m profit from the season tickets this summer if and when he requires that.

“We have the best accounts in the world you know. Can Dundee United say that?”

  23. Ally McCoist has called for the scrapping of the January transfer window.

The The Rangers manager has said that the “relentless interest of top European clubs” in his players only serves as a distraction from the Third Division title race.

“I really don’t see the need for a January transfer window, unless of course you’re a SkySports viewer”, quipped the jocular Scot. “My (pay and go) phone has been non-stop. I’m having to deal with calls from the Barcelonas, Real Madrids, Juventus-s of this world constantly enquiring after almost every one of my players. Of course its flattering and a compliment to my management I suppose, but no-one is for sale at the club, not at any price. Charles Green has told me that he has turned down £20m for one of our squad and £15m for another. And, do you know what? I believe him.”
