Remainder of the season should have a different purpose

394

Before he arrived at West Ham as a 22-year-old in the summer of 2019, Albian Ajeti had a steady progression from promising youth at St Gallen to scoring in the Champions League for Basel and leading the line for Switzerland in European Championship qualification.  31 goals from 52 league appearances across his final two seasons in Switzerland is the form that attracts EPL clubs.

We have seen better players than Albian suffer at the wrong club, so there’s every reason to believe West Ham fans have no idea what his genuine talents are (I felt a bit the same about Ismailia Soro until recently), but damage has been done to his repute, as well as his sharpness.

If you wanted to go somewhere in the summer of 2020 to repair your confidence and to enjoy your football again, Celtic Park did not turn out to be a wise choice.  Celtic quickly descended into crisis where even idolised Odsonne Edouard found form from previous seasons illusive.

With Odsonne in the final 18 months of his contract and zero chance of him extending, one of the tasks for the remainder of the season should be to repair what’s necessary for Albian and return him to his peak for the summer.

It has been decades since we have had as many games ahead without a genuine chance of winning the league.  These games now have a different purpose with preparing the squad for next season a top requirement.  Albian should play as many games as possible.

Cannot see us signing Kenny this summer if we even wanted to. Everton probably looking for around 8m if reports are correct.

That will probably be over half our transfer spend this summer. And considering the club will need to recruit up to 7-8 new players.

An extended loan is probably more realistic.

  2. Kenny has played one game. Looked good but let’s see what he brings after the initial few games. We had the same hyperbole with Laxalt until we realised he was a duracell bunny with absolutely no discernible positive output beyond tackling and pressing, both somewhat patchy.

Does the new guy want a RB bombing up abd down like a winger or a different system? Let that be the first problem to solve next season.

I would preferred if club had instead taken Lee O’Connor back and gave the boy a run of games at RB, than signing Kenny.

  4. Isn’t Lee O’Connor now a converted DM?

Agree we should have him back if this period ahead was used as an honest reflection of what our talent looked like for the new guy rather than the testimonial season for the current coach.

  5. Drew1967 – I did not play for them, a few others but not them. I know a lot of Bhoys that did though. How are you doing anyway.

Big Jimmy – Shame about wee Rocky, hope everything turns out ok. Canny wait to get pashed with you again sir and a few Bhoys from here.

    Big Wavy,

Yes I saw that is how Tranmere is using him in last couple games.

Looking at his previous interviews when signing, think he mentioned his preferred position was CB but he also felt comfortable at RB.

Its not as if we needed cover at either or anything :-0

This is now my highlight for remainder of this season, watching youngsters progress on loan & hopefully 1-2 youngsters remaining to get a chance in 1st team.

  7. wonder if Bolingoli-Mbombo will come back into our plans in the summer? Injured i think. Saw something from Schved saying Celtic was a mistake so maybe he is for the off.

Hendry is a funny one. Looked the worst defender ever before he left but Duffy has shown you can be even worse. Maybe he ahs kicked on?

Think I mentioned before that Cynics & the huddle breakdown crunched the numbers on all 3 of our LB’s – Laxalt, Boli & Taylor and both concluded Boli was the best of the 3.

    Discipline issues are another matter!

  9. Talked on the phone with my Son last night and Even though the 10 is gone and the Sevco will be winning their first League. He lifted my spirits.

It would be bitter sweet….. but if we could beat them in the Scottish Cup final….. especially as they cannae even celebrate a title win because of lockdown. I would cheer up a little bit. Hopefully spoil Every huns Summer

Petec – yes that would be sweet!

Want to ensure to beat them in league too so they don’t go undefeated.

I would also announce an elite coach for next season on the day they clinch the league!
