Remainder of the season should have a different purpose

394

Before he arrived at West Ham as a 22-year-old in the summer of 2019, Albian Ajeti had a steady progression from promising youth at St Gallen to scoring in the Champions League for Basel and leading the line for Switzerland in European Championship qualification.  31 goals from 52 league appearances across his final two seasons in Switzerland is the form that attracts EPL clubs.

We have seen better players than Albian suffer at the wrong club, so there’s every reason to believe West Ham fans have no idea what his genuine talents are (I felt a bit the same about Ismailia Soro until recently), but damage has been done to his repute, as well as his sharpness.

If you wanted to go somewhere in the summer of 2020 to repair your confidence and to enjoy your football again, Celtic Park did not turn out to be a wise choice.  Celtic quickly descended into crisis where even idolised Odsonne Edouard found form from previous seasons illusive.

With Odsonne in the final 18 months of his contract and zero chance of him extending, one of the tasks for the remainder of the season should be to repair what’s necessary for Albian and return him to his peak for the summer.

It has been decades since we have had as many games ahead without a genuine chance of winning the league.  These games now have a different purpose with preparing the squad for next season a top requirement.  Albian should play as many games as possible.

  2. I wonder what the team will look like at the end of the season. Will we have any remnants of the team that started the season or will it full of youngsters who have been dying to make their first team apperance.

I agree with most that finishing second is what we have to aim for now and if the option presents itself, get some new blood in to be ready for next year.

A few on the books already would come to mind such as Hazard, Henderson, O’Connor, Connell and Afolabi. Maybe worth going after some young Hibees as well who have first team experience such as Porteous and Doig and a seasoned keeper such as Marciano.

We should be doing more shopping in our own backyard as there is a lot of talent in Scotia

  3. Watching EPL football, and MOTD,its astonishing.Bielsa, one of the world’s best coaches now with Leeds, cannot get his team to defend.Hopeless.Going forward,a dream, but worst record in EPL,defending.

Liverpool, only last season, best team in the world,4 points clear at Xmas, now collapsed, losing last 2 home games to the Scottish equivalent of Hamilton,Ross County.

Goalkeepers.Horrendous mistakes by brilliant Goalkeepers,a common occurrence,on a quite regular basis.

Striker. The most famous ones, missing chances, that would have us tearing our hair out.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and realise, shit happens.Sadly,I know it won’t happen on here.

Does anyone think on the Liverpool blogs, they are going mental.Other teams, slaughtering their keepers.

Get out of our wee bubble, very bad shit happens in football.

Barkas ain’t the worst keeper in the world. We know that from his time in Greece. The opposite.

Nothing is God given, leagues are lost.Ask Klopp.

    Strikers blow hot and cold.

    The best defences,and coaches,sometimes have a nightmare.

WE WILL BE BACK.Because that shower are not very good, and we have all read the stats on how they are treated.

  4. Got to make sure we beat that mob too..be a wee bit more bearable if we stop them goin unbeaten in league..nobody else goin to beat them by looks of it

    Kilmarnock.

    It’s a plaice.

    I’ll get my coat.

  9. Been saying to anyone who would listen for months..

We’ve been crying out for a hartson/sutton type target man.

Eddie,Griff and Ajeti(maybe) would have a field day.

Maybe he could be decent at centre half anaw…☘💚HH.

  10. Gotta say, despite Killie being poor, I liked the way way played with all giving off a good performance. Broonie was back to Broonie, leading from the front and I thought Christie had a stonking game, that boy IS a footballer no doubt.

I thought too that Greig Taylor tried very hard and never hid. OK his outball often went astray but try he did.

We are very quick to criticise but Ajeti has had little football and not given a run of games. Barkas, well, how would you fancy being a keeper behind big Duffy, that’s when you find out adrenalin is brown!!

So, all in all I thought our defence looked very solid an young Welsh was assured and confident.

Keep it going Celtic, and use Soro and Laxalt in rotation with Broony and Taylor.

    Stay safe everyone

  11. Greenside,

We will have Julien & Forrest back, those two plus & Soro, Turnbull, CalMac, Ajeti, Bitton & Welsh will in my opinion be the nucleus of the new squad. Brooney, mibbe, mibbe not.

Rogic may or may not be still hanging about but I have lost faith in him, Taylor, Ralston & Mikey J will be there but I see them at best as back up.

As you say hoping one or two of the younger ghuys step up & try & buy the best in Scotland plus 3 or 4 Loans from South of the Border & somewhere, somehow recruit a top Goalie.

  12. Hi

If Broony had committed that foul by Roofe the Sfa would be inviting Police Scotland to be involved on the grounds of common assault it was so vicious.

And you know I would agree!!

“Who picks the new manager? Can’t be Lawwell, McKay has a rugby background, who will Desmond take advice from? Will his son be involved? Do we appoint a DoF first? A real issue here…”

Logical approach would be to implement a Director of Football/Operations first, and let him appoint the next coach. However, are we even likely to get a DoF/Coach model? Haven’t heard such news from the club.

  14. Barkas from first sighting looked like a man going to the gallows don’t know why but can’t see any future for him @celtic the other two ain,t much better

looks like musical chairs for the remainder of season

    Ernie @2.26;

Yes, old ones are the best ones.

Grandson ( jamie 16 tomorrow and Celtic season ticket holder )

I didn’t know the answer…then he says Kilmarnock…its a plaice in Scotland.Strangely though Jamie born in Glasgow stayed in Pollock.

  16. BFTB- thanks for reply, the rejuvenation of Lennoxtown is huge IMO. The amount of youngsters leaving is alarming, but not unusual these days. We possibly need to look at other successful models like Ajax or Red Bull Leipzig, and see what we can learn,we will need to headhunt guys who have a good track record in building grassroots at a club.
