Remarkable statistic illuminates Armstrong’s rise

307

There was only a minute between Celtic’s second and third goals against Partick Thistle on Friday evening but for that moment, a remarkable statistic had currency. Stuart Armstrong scored three and assisted two of Celtic’s six previous goals in the league. This is a level beyond an incredible upgrade in form.

Watching Stuart’s blossoming in recent weeks, you still get he’s been playing within himself for much of the last two years. It could be that the inverted-left-winger role didn’t suit him, or that the step up to the pressures of playing for Celtic inhibited him to the extent that the levels of confidence necessary to perform were not to be found.

Even now, watching his body language on the field, and in interview, he looks like he’s still finding his way. I’m pretty sure there’s more to come from him, given the necessary support.

Definite poser but I still think he’s a very good ref….. Although the standards we watch that would not be too difficult

Jmccormick ….. I was gazzumped with dinner, my baked potatoes were immense (wee yin cleared her plate) but the good lady decided to “Cook” the steaks……. Only happy when putting me in my place…..although she done a great job

Many thanks for making assumptions about my knowledge.

I did not know you, I do not assume you know less than I , I do not assume I am the don of football knowledge.

I offered an opinion, your last post was condescending and ignorant of my capacity to form an opinion. You seem convinced that you can predict the future.

I am truly in your shadow.

  3. That piece about Dick Barton.in the Sunday Pail.is for all the sevco hordes,to go out and buy it,why because the hoops fans don’t read that rag anymore,

You took that the wrong way buddy.

I was just giving you my history on Pep as i have had many debates over the years on here about his merits.

I never intended it to be condescending or imply you had less knowledge.

I was conversing with you because i valued your opinion.

  5. Saw a link on twitter to this very interesting read from Justbhoy. The new co-efficicient bonus points highlighted in Pauyl67’s last article relates not just to the Champions League but also to the UEFA cup and Cup Winners Cup. If you know who ever manage to qualify for Europe keep an eye on whether they (wrongly) get the 1 bonus point on offer for 1972…

I offer no comment towards the workforce.

However I have plenty of opinions for the complete commercial and engineering shambles that is naval shipbuilding in the UK and Britsh Waste of Space / Big and Expensive Systems in particular.

Totally useless is only the start they are the big vampire squid of British Engineering sucking the lifeblood out of the RN and the MOD. Their latest instalment of £248mill for two patrol boats with less offensive capability than 2 1940 vintage Flower class corvettes is not the Clyde at its finest.

Unfortunately too many in the RN and the MOD can’t see past them.

You have to wonder why although the worm seems to be turning with the cutbacks to the T26 programme and the sudden invention of the T31. BWoS will be the death of shipbuilding on the Clyde.

    Consequently not a pacifist.

Barcelona was being managed by the late Tito Vilanova when the ‘crushing’ by Bayern happened.

In the previous season with Pep, Barcelona did a bit of crushing themselves when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 10-2 (yeah, that’s right, lady, Ten-two!) in the round of 16.

  10. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Conte’s “system” has turned their season around.

He had to use players in positions they hadn’t played in before, but it has worked.

  11. Did that Pauly not meet a bad end?

    Anyway

    FAN-A-TIC.

I took your comment ” I dont expect you to know ” literally.

I do understand your sentiment. Since 2013 Pep has won 5 major trophies, CL is not one of them. I did not expect him to win the CL with Bayern, no idea why. It just seemed like a bad fit

To be honest, I feel Pep will win the CL again but not with Citeh. He will return to Barca and do it there. That is not just an emotional call.

I feel that R Madrid will win it this year as they look to be in n the right place.

Barca will be out of sorts for a couple of seasons and will need the see Pep return to fix the team. The whole Man City project is complete shite in my opinion. Built on sand, that is not a pun.

  12. Conte’s system was a Kevin de Bruyne sitter, and a terrible refereeing decision, away from being taken apart just over a week ago.

I agree he has done very well after a couple of poor results, and will fully exploit them not being in Europe this season.

I was wrong as i forgot Pep took a season out before joining Bayern .

Still stand by my assertion that he took a brilliant Bayern team who were fast ,direct and looked like to dominate the Champions league for years into a bunch of tippy, tappy European flops.

Honest mistakes aplenty at the Death Dome yesterday all favouring guess who.

The ludge brithers are pulling out all the stops to keep the sevs second.

  17. Why be concerned about the SPL title? That one is in the bag. By my reckoning we have 5 games left that we have to win to win the treble.

The decisions made in those 5 games will decide the treble, as they were two seasons ago.

I agree on Henderson. He is talented but don’t see where he fits at present.

*The same could be said about a young wing half we had that had just turned 20 when he knelt down to tie his shoelace before THAT penalty, he was a late developer, or so we thought.

Jock played him up front as an old fashioned inside forward before giving him a free rein on the park.

I wouldn’t like to see Liam leave as he has all the attributes to be a player, however, he does come from a Hibbees family so mibbees that’s where his heart (nae pun intended) lies.

My TV time is limited, if Celtic aren’t playing both bosses have the remote, when I get a wee hour I catch up with Criminal Minds…….that’s my (TV) life story in a nutshell :-)

  21. Fan-a-tic

Ok, leaving aside the fact that he beat Heynkes’ record by winning the earliest ever Bundesliga title with 7 games remaining in his first season in charge, I wouldn’t describe getting to 2 semi-finals a “flop”, especially if you’ve knocked out Manure and Arsenal previous to a bad night in Munich against Real, and, similarly, beating Shakhtar 7-0, and Porto 6-1, before losing out to Barça in a tie they came close to pulling out of the fire.

Some thrilling football via the ‘tippy-tappy’ method along the way to the semi-final disappointments.

  22. Would pay £5m and no more than £25k a week for McCarthy. If it’s anymore than that it’s a no thanks.

I am a fan of Henderson.

His lack of game time is disappointing .

Thats why i think we should sell with a buy back clause.

It’s unsettling to be constantly on loan.

So let him settle somewhere and he will flourish.

  28. BEATBHOY

Beating overrated teams from the self proclaimed best league in the world is hardly an achievement:))

Bayern’s financial superiority made them league favorites.

My point being is he took over a team and system that was overpowering everyone in the Champions league changed it and failed to win when it counted.

I think he will struggle at city but let’s see how the season pans out?

Arsenal generally start to fade around the time the weather changes and pitches decline so i expect the same for City as they are both passing teams.

Pep and Wenger have never been known to alter their philosophy and in the modern game with video analysis their systems get sussed.

Brendan showed how to play against City and they have struggled since due to Peps lack of flexibility.
