Finishing third last season, Aberdeen go straight to the Europa League playoff round, so their only competitive game since losing 5-0 at Celtic Park at the end of last season was Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Livingston. They prepared for the season with only four friendlies, meaning they have seen less game time than anyone else in the league, perhaps in the country.
Our record at Pittodrie is excellent. There have been 11 wins and two draws since the last defeat, under Ronny Deila, still, for my generation, this is always a daunting fixture. We were conditioned during more difficult times.
What happened last season to Aberdeen remains unexplained. Jim Goodwin had them performing well, but letting a two-goal lead slip late on against Newco derailed them. Form disintegrated amid humiliating defeats to Darvel, Hibs and Hearts.
Barry Robson took over as interim and effected an immediate turnaround. From an unlikely position, they climbed the table into third position, sweeping aside Hibs and Hearts without trace of their earlier defeats. Barry’s status as a winner is without question among the Celtic support, I hope he succeeds at Aberdeen, although not for a few more days.
I was a bit surprised to read Brendan Rodgers suggesting that Reo Hatate “has to prove himself”. This is no more true for Reo as it is for everyone else in the squad. Managing a couple of dozen young athletes will require various techniques, I hope this is merely a way to tweak Reo’s role.
One technique all managers like to employ is making an example of a miscreant. Alexandro Bernabei missed a team meeting and put his own neck in the stocks. If there is a serious athlete in there, he had better show himself quickly.

I have a mad bet on for the game, it needs four 1st half goals and for a few Celtic 1st half Corners too.
We are not secure enough at the back yet, So my thinking both teams will score goals, I expect the Dandies to go at us fast frae the off.
Likely an Aberdeen 0 – Celtic 1 :)
No chance.
I haven’t really watched a lot of Celtic things lately, I think it was AT who posted a link of an interview with Brendan.
There is a real Steel in his eyes, with a Ruthless smile.
Logical Progression.

Our last game at Pittodrie was a 1-0 win.
Jota and Starfelt both started, with GG and Mooy both coming off the bench.
Hopefully, team still has enough to better Aberdeen today.
Possibly a 2 or 3 nil

You’ll find plenty on you tube . An incredible talent for such a little known artist . I’m just making it my mission to spread the word !
BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 13TH AUGUST 2023 9:40 AM
I would say that seems likely.
BTW
I was in The Pot Still for a couple of hours yesterday and was most surprised not to see BRRB.
It is matchday hurrah
Logic tells me we will win today but emotion ( coupled with the MIBS) fears dropped points.
BSR – That will probably be the team and quite possibly swapping AR for Iwata.

Sevco gave us an early unexpected cushion, where a draw in a very difficult fixture wouldn’t be a disaster.
David66
AJ back training is the good news, iwata as possible, Ralston a probable mibbees.

Firstly the health thing and my op was fairly minor and not related to previous. Just some knee surgery which seems to have gone well. Time will tell though but no problems thanks. Won’t be up for selection today though.
Re the football : I think the world moved on since 1967.Scotland was a big part of a smaller professional football environment back then. Germany only had regional leagues and Holland was only semi pro.
Now it is a very very small part of a much much bigger professional football environment.
We could have been part of a bigger and growing pond had certain things come to pass in the early 00’s. We chose to wait and see and believed our day would come. ‘They would need us’ was the post Seville mantra.
The gap has grown and we are a huge brand in a small small pond and with a thick glass ceiling which we are allowed to poke through every year but can never be allowed to crack.
Liverpool and Everton are on the right side of that glass ceiling and have been since the 80s / 90s when it began to engulf us.
it could be a valid criticism of our club that we have not focused on dealing with this reality and the limiting structural factors around how it works. Focus on levelling the TV revenue pool issue for smaller domestic leagues to balance EPL dominance was the best option which we have not pursued.
The same challenges face other former big clubs such as Benfica and Ajax, Sporting and Feyenoord who have adapted to their feeder club status and accept their wee few days in the sun every few years as ‘as good as it gets’. We have been slower to adapt and are coming from and even more limited domestic pool. We currently have less credibility than even Portugal Holland or Belgium in the value we add to players. It’s a position in the food chain we are stuck with until we see major structural change in the game. With so much money being made from it right now there won’t be much move for revolution any time soon.
The Atlantic League type structure really is the best we can push for to try to balance the EPL dominance. The combined and aligned will isn’t there I fear.
Just my thoughts and opinion …
On to our parochial challenge today at Aberdeen.
Hopefully we can send a signal out today heap the pressure back on the other lot today with a strong performance.
Possession seems more important than risk and so it may not be such a fun run as with Ange but the menu is being refreshed and should be interesting for us all. Hopefully another successful Brendan season. He did win 7/7 trophies when he was last here so plenty to feel good about.
A decent draw in Europe and a couple of decent signings and it could be another great season with plenty to enjoy.
Would I prefer us to be having the opportunities Liverpool and Everton enjoy right now though ? That is the question…. Well their fans really can dream with no glass ceiling. But are their clubs anymore theirs than ours is ours ?
I get the point that a draw is ok today but I really do think a statement that we are relentless is what is needed. Let’s not give them a glimmer of hope. Ruthless. Keep winning the games that matter. That’s what we do. That’s what Beale doesn’t do. Today is big.
Hot Smoked 9.47am
Most people stay in all week and go out at the weekend, maybe BRRB goes out all week and stays in at the weekend … :-)
Any 3pts will do but got a feeling the bhoys will put on a show today, DT 2+ goals 20/1 on skybet … it’s worth ten bob of anybodies cash
Hope Barry Robson (after today) goes on a wee run of winning games, a great signing for us when he “donned” the hoops (if you pardon the pun)
One of the bloggers on here (BADA BING) on a rumour that Celtic were looking at the Emirates as it doesn’t get used much to purchase it , Imagine that happening the size of it having the Hotel,The Museum,The Ticket Office Facilities etc ,how much would they have to pay to own it,
Same starting 11 as last Saturday
Hart, Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Nawrocki, Taylor, McGregor, Turnbull, O’Riley, Abada, Kyogo, Maeda.
Subs: Bain, Haksabanovic, Yang, Holm, Iwata, Bernabei, Hatate, Forrest, Welsh
Aberdeen struggled at Livingston last week and may take a few games to show any form. Celtic will have too much for them today and I can see naught but a Celtic victory.
2-1
☘️
Hatate benched again.
Turnbull starts.

**cheers not here’s 😂
Real lack of forward options on bench,Haksabanovic will get punted
Bada
Not sure re Haksa and being punted.
Yang and Forrest may allow Maeda to move centrally.
Agree without Oh it looks a bit weak
GG live updates up >
Bada
Haksa is on the bench.
