Reo, Alexandro: Brendan gets managing

421

Finishing third last season, Aberdeen go straight to the Europa League playoff round, so their only competitive game since losing 5-0 at Celtic Park at the end of last season was Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Livingston.  They prepared for the season with only four friendlies, meaning they have seen less game time than anyone else in the league, perhaps in the country.

Our record at Pittodrie is excellent.  There have been 11 wins and two draws since the last defeat, under Ronny Deila, still, for my generation, this is always a daunting fixture.  We were conditioned during more difficult times.

What happened last season to Aberdeen remains unexplained.  Jim Goodwin had them performing well, but letting a two-goal lead slip late on against Newco derailed them.  Form disintegrated amid humiliating defeats to Darvel, Hibs and Hearts.

Barry Robson took over as interim and effected an immediate turnaround.  From an unlikely position, they climbed the table into third position, sweeping aside Hibs and Hearts without trace of their earlier defeats.  Barry’s status as a winner is without question among the Celtic support, I hope he succeeds at Aberdeen, although not for a few more days.

I was a bit surprised to read Brendan Rodgers suggesting that Reo Hatate “has to prove himself”.  This is no more true for Reo as it is for everyone else in the squad.  Managing a couple of dozen young athletes will require various techniques, I hope this is merely a way to tweak Reo’s role.

One technique all managers like to employ is making an example of a miscreant.  Alexandro Bernabei missed a team meeting and put his own neck in the stocks.  If there is a serious athlete in there, he had better show himself quickly.

  1. England got a wee bit lucky there ….

Was thinking our old tragic pal ronadinho from 2002 vs Seaman might have been decisive.

England should have the momentum now surely.

  2. for those interested in such things –

the indoor pitch (other than for the youths i dont know why we want it) will be in the south-west corner of the land parcels.

drainage and sewage groundworks, access roads, pathways, flood preventation (10m flood once every 200 years) landscaping all to a standard to allow construction to commence from feb24, i will ask for the build programme next week,

i expect it to be a 9 month build, the changing rooms first, depending on the other pitches being done.

I heard a rumour we are interested in buying the Emirates Arena, very few events in it……probably costs money to run…

    —-

Is that a separate building from the velodrome?

  4. BADA BING With Barrowfield being upgraded, will that mean the B Team and the Girls Team will play there games there ,rather than the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie ,also don’t you think its shocking that Lennoxtown Training Complex doesn’t have a Indoor Pitch ,where do they train if it rains ?

  5. Ah the irony of itv promoting the rugby World Cup.

Even more than this tournament the draw is biased insanely toward England !

None of the top 5 teams in the world in Englands half of the draw and all 5 including Scotland at 5th in our side.

    The All Blacks

    The Springboks

    The hosts France

The current 6 nations champs Ireland

Scotland who are enjoying a decent spell

All loaded on one side of the draw. Crazy they seeded it and drew it nearly 3 years in advance.

England literally have to win 1 or possible 2 decent games to get to the final despite being ranked 6 or 7th in world.

Given the benefit they have had in this competition and the World Cup Rugby I think terrestrial jingoistic broadcasters focusing on the national teams for the next few months are getting real value.

Green light for Celtic’s Barrowfield training revamp

    14 SEP 2021

Celtic Football Club has been granted planning permission for the redevelopment of its training centre in Glasgow’s East End.

    About this development:

    AUTHORITY:

    Glasgow City

    TYPE:

    Leisure

    APPLICATIONS:

    19/01483/FUL, 19/03676/FUL

TEAM: Ryden (agent), Holmes Miller (architect)

The single-storey modular building at Barrowfield on London Road will include a reception area, office, medical/first aid room and toilets. Changing facilities for six teams and officials would be available.

The new project will also feature a state of the art gymnasium, as well as brand new extended parking facilities.

A statement submitted to the council by agents Ryden, on Celtic’s behalf, explained: “The Barrowfield training ground is used mostly by the club’s youth teams for training and matches.

“The existing changing facilities are located at the north end of the training ground adjoining the car park. A footpath connects the existing facilities with the three pitches to the south.

“The proposed new changing facilities and gym are to replace these existing facilities as they no longer meet the club’s requirements.

“These new facilities will ensure modern fit-for-purpose facilities are available, meeting the requirement of Celtic FC and also importantly football governing bodies.”

Architects Holmes Miller stated: “The proposal consists of a modest, modern building set a significant distance from the main road, and within a wider recreational area.

“It will have no significant detrimental impact on either existing residents, amenity or traffic. Rather the proposal will enhance the facilities on offer at the training ground, improving health and well-being.”

They add: “The aesthetics of the facility will be in keeping with other facilities owned by Celtic FC, with a white base and horizontal green stripes intermittently.”

  7. Timbhoy

Lennoxtown does have an indoor pitch. Roughly 2/3 size and not full size.

    Plenty good for training.

Training in the rain is not all bad you know.

Back in the day it was what was done.

  8. bournesouprecipe on

    FASSREIFEN

Good question – you can’t find what isn’t there, other than some news sources declaring the fee, Celtic certainly don’t mention fees publicly. Because for example the Jota fee was so big, they do occasionally have to inform the stock exchange.

We can’t even be certain what Celtic paid for Carl Starfelt when Paul67 maybe or maybe not with insider information stated it was £1.4M but the news sources said £4.3M.

Celtic published accounts should tell us but I don’t think they do, anymore, I may be wrong.

You can check transfermarket.com but that is just a website that gathers data and has monitors who determine the actual fee from the same information we have from said news sources.

  9. Some general comments around the build programme –

Existing grass pitches to be retained and protected during construction.

Existing east pathway to be retained and protected during construction.

  10. Bit of a shambles at one of the top grounds in the top league in the world due to ticketing system.

Delay of 30 mins is about maximum they can do given that games likely to last well over 2 hours these days and domestic broadcast cut off is 3pm.

  11. Shame for the Colombian goalie. Huge mistake costing her company dear and then concussion.

Only one winner now I think. England looking strong.

  12. Thank You BADA BING and BURNLEY 78 for replying to me ,my grammar isn’t to good but I try to put my point across ,

  13. The back up Colombian goalie playing like she has never even played before.

Shows the disparity in depth of capability

  14. Brave effort from Colombia.

Sadly it will be wall to wall about lionesses.

Pleating turgid football in the Italian and German cup finals manner. I can’t help but feel their name is on this.

  15. Commiserations Colombia, congratulations England.

Continues to look like England’s name is on this – except it looks like the names of Australia, Spain and Sweden are also on it.

    Fascinating.

  16. Brilliant comedy on rangers Tv just now listening to Tom (whits the goalie da’en) with Alex Rae. Commentating on their game v Servette.

  17. BOURNESOUPRECIPE, thanks! I’d seen a fee of 9m for Starfelt mentioned, which seemed unlikely, so I was wanting to see if that had been confirmed. We may never know…

  18. garygillespieshamstring on

Not too bothered about with fee for Carl.

Main thing for me is that Rocky and the lager man give us good partners for CCV.

Still have hopes that Yuki can toughen up enough to make the grade. Good performances at rugby park and swinecastle last seasongive me a bit of optimism.

  19. I would rather that Engurland got beat, but I had the Correct Score v Columbia of 2 – 1 at odds of 17/2.

I also had the first Winner at Ascot at odds of 9/1 on three separate slips….so a good start to my bets Today.

Engurland DO have Three good looking BURDS in their team….Greenwood, Daly and Sub Kelly….but they are STILL HUNS !

    LOL

    HH

  20. SKY and TNT Sports they really show there true colours ,Boyd ,Sky ,McCoist TNT ,no ex Celtic need apply ,can I ask a question what is the names of these two football sports editors on the said 2 football platform’s.

  21. GaryGillespie…..

I thought Kobayashi was weak as camomile tea at Tynecastle.

    TT

  22. Tiny Tim

No one said that when we were winning the 2 previous games.

The entire back four was changed around for Ibrox which for me doesn’t really count.

I can’t comment as I was on holiday for the Hesrts game.

  23. Rangers get goal VAR chalked off

    So just 1-0

Livi seem to be in total self destruct mode.

    Absolute rubbish.

I was thinking if the Scottish cup tie when he stood up when he came on as a sub when Carl got injured.

Agree he struggled on title day and was weak that day.

Wee prayer said for your friend.

    BURNLEY78
