Reo, Alexandro: Brendan gets managing

421

Finishing third last season, Aberdeen go straight to the Europa League playoff round, so their only competitive game since losing 5-0 at Celtic Park at the end of last season was Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Livingston.  They prepared for the season with only four friendlies, meaning they have seen less game time than anyone else in the league, perhaps in the country.

Our record at Pittodrie is excellent.  There have been 11 wins and two draws since the last defeat, under Ronny Deila, still, for my generation, this is always a daunting fixture.  We were conditioned during more difficult times.

What happened last season to Aberdeen remains unexplained.  Jim Goodwin had them performing well, but letting a two-goal lead slip late on against Newco derailed them.  Form disintegrated amid humiliating defeats to Darvel, Hibs and Hearts.

Barry Robson took over as interim and effected an immediate turnaround.  From an unlikely position, they climbed the table into third position, sweeping aside Hibs and Hearts without trace of their earlier defeats.  Barry’s status as a winner is without question among the Celtic support, I hope he succeeds at Aberdeen, although not for a few more days.

I was a bit surprised to read Brendan Rodgers suggesting that Reo Hatate “has to prove himself”.  This is no more true for Reo as it is for everyone else in the squad.  Managing a couple of dozen young athletes will require various techniques, I hope this is merely a way to tweak Reo’s role.

One technique all managers like to employ is making an example of a miscreant.  Alexandro Bernabei missed a team meeting and put his own neck in the stocks.  If there is a serious athlete in there, he had better show himself quickly.

  1. I thought I was tuning into a football game on rangers Tv and then noticed it was actually a throwback to yesteryear on a Saturday afternoon World of Sport with the all in Wrestling …..

Comedy characters such as Cantwell Balogen and Soutar making no attempt to play football against a tag team from Livingston.

The odd time a wee bit of football broke out it was usually Ciufentes or Danilo or Noubile for Livi but really not much off that going on.

  2. PhilBhoy – thank you. Says she is feeling ok but tired most of the time, assume the medication to keep her heart beat from racing is the reason.

Her memory has declined quite noticeably in the last 2-3 months, doesn’t remember conversations from the day before. Old age doesn’t come alone. 😪

Looking forward to getting back to see her and my dad, it will be a surprise visit so they can celebrate my son’s birthday. Hope they haven’t gone on a cruise 😂

  3. First 20 of second half has been mostly Livi actually. Hate to say it but they look more likely.

  4. Watched the Austin Mitchell interview with Clough and Revie in 1974 on the day ( apparently ) that Clough got sacked ( after 7 weeks in charge ) on YouTube …riveting …the honesty and dislike palpable !…would never get that exposure these days ..always suspected that Clough had no intention of keeping the Leeds job at the time and his body language and mannerisms strongly suggest this ..got what he wanted …good pay off 🤔

    That’ll do :O)

Huns game ,hun commentator ” Cantwell doesn’t go to ground ” never tought I’d hear that .

Livi subs not really at it.

    2-0.

2 big saves from Butland when Huns were under the cosh.

    Hopefully floodgates don’t open.

  7. Carpe diem

You are correct. That was great Tv in the raw.

Clough in his younger days was really smart.

3-0 to the zombies. Nothing has changed, I still believe they are an awful team. Not to he feared

  9. Last I saw him sadly he had fallen asleep 4 seats along from me at a Peterborough v Forrest reserve game around 1992 or so.

I had to wake him up to get out a bit before the end of the game. He saw it was me and said ‘have you not got me a bottle of your booze then young man ? I was a sales and marketing guy for a big company down south back then ….. sad the way such a genius went downhill like that in the end. Hotels are best remembered in their prime.

  10. If you were wee Davies boss you would have a meeting in Monday morning.

  11. Wee Davie like del are cowards of men that’s why they get put in these jobs. Like naismith don’t have the ball or intelligence to stand in the rolls themselves but in Scotland it’s OK to hide behind someone else and don’t have the qualifications. Just as long as you bend over for Govan like the sfa.

  12. I didn’t think Livi laid down.

They had 2 good chances well saved by the goalie just after the restart and right up to 78 mins they had the home fans turning on their team.

It a 2 poor subs, which were needed as the boys were shattered, which made the difference. After it went 2-0 they lost heart.

Wouldn’t say anyone laid down. We need to eh as ruthless in last quarter. That was a mark of Ange teams. They never stop. Brendan was never that way inclined with possession stats seemeingly more important than goals. Sadly.

  13. Change of sport to the rugby 🏉 for me now.

Engerland v Wales in a pre World Cup practice.

  14. AuroraBorealis79 on

I don’t think living lay down. I think they are just a poor team. Half of them had a stitch at around 70 minutes

I watched 2nd half of Everton v Fulham. My extended Scouse family are diehard Toffees so was hoping to see them get off to a good start. .

At 0-0 Patterson rattled it off the bar from 8 yards with open goal and keeper grounded.

Soon after that Fulham grabbed the only goal.

Same old same old at Goodison Park.

  16. Just back from an excellent result at Vale park – rode our luck first 20 mins when they missed a penalty (Andy Carroll) but after that we were good value for the win

If you think the Huns are a tall strong team then Reading are on a par.

My mate saw you post .

He’s asked me to pass on his thank’s to you and those others who have wished him well ,

When I was 15 I met a smashing lad from Toxteth whilst I was on holiday in Benidorm with my uncle , amity , and cousins.

I ended up winching his cousin ( Mandy ) who was from middle class Woolton .

She introduced me to Marvin Gaye.

Stephen was blue Mandy was Red .

Both went to RC schools .

No religious thought given to what team they should support .

At the time Liverpool had their greatest ever team.

Stephen took me to Goodison a couple of times .

I remember a young Joe McBride JNR skinning New England cap Viv Anderson , in a match against Brian Clough’s newly promoted Notts Forrest .

We lost touch over the years .

The last time I saw him he met me in Chinatown after Liverpool thumped us 6-0 in a friendly at Anfield.

I don’t support an English team , but always like Everton and Liverpool to do well .

I think the toffees will fight relegation again this season .
