Reo, Sorensen, Kenny and an important game

168

Those of us who have followed Celtic in recent years will want to mark the departure of Reo Hatate.  His time at Celtic was transformational for our club.  Along with Kyogo and Daizen Maeda he brought us delight and so many trophies.  He announced his arrival in January 2022 with a thunderous shot into the Hearts goal at Tynecastle.  At the time, it looked like Goal of the Season.  It turned out to be his third most memorable goal of the week.  Days later scored twice in the first half against Newco to put Celtic top of the table, where we have only temporarily left since.

The record books will show that with Celtic chasing an equaliser, he had three attempts on target in the 90th minute at Ibrox in February, when defeat would have ended our quest for five-in-a-row.  Sure, you can be picky with all your “It was a penalty” gripes.  Three attempts, all on target, ending in a goal, when we needed him most.  That’s what mattered.  Our three Japanese greats defined an era of Celtic history.  Best of luck, Reo.

Oliver Sørensen has become the latest player to arrive at Celtic, with the Danish midfielder joining on a season-long loan from Parma, with an option to buy.

He spent five youthful years as a Midtjylland player and had two loan moves before he made the first team on a permanent basis as a 20-year-old in 2022.  He became a mainstay at Midtjylland in his second season, winning their Player of the Year award and prompting Parma to pay €8m for him a year ago.

He played in all but four of Parma’s Siere A games last term and remained an automatic starter until March, but his Midtjylland form was not replicated in Italy, which is why he was available to Celtic.

As we publish, there is a possibility Celtic will sign six more players today!  All that excitement will disappear like sunshine on Fair Friday if Celtic do not get a result against Aberdeen tonight.

Johnny Kenny (23) departed for Preston for a tidy £3m yesterday.  The striker is a better player than we saw during his difficult spell last term.  A loan spell at Bolton proved this and earned a move across Lancashire.  Not everyone makes the cut at Celtic, but turning a £150k signing into a £3m sale is still great development work.

The Dons have had an inconsistent start to the campaign.  They were battered at home for 90 minutes by Hearts on the opening day of the season, but scored twice in added time to record an unlikely win.  Dundee picked up where Hearts left off in their next game, but there was no rescue for Aberdeen this time.  Four days later Aberdeen took revenge over Dundee with a 3-0 League Cup win, while they looked the lesser of two bad teams at home to Newco on Sunday.

This is not a good Aberdeen team by any measure.  Still, a transitional Celtic side will need to find composure to get the job done.

ALERT: It’s an earlier than usual kick-off – 7.45pm.

  1. I really hope the Raskin thing rumbles on until tomorrow and lessens Huns chance of a backfill with someone decent.

Their squad is insanely unbalanced with potentially 5 centre forwards and only 4 midfielders if Raskin goes.

Although Butland wasn’t great, their keeper looks like a big downgrade and they started the game on Sunday with Penrice, Devlin and “goal machine” Shankland!

  10. We also have to have the best Academy prospects on better contracts. If Kelly and Cummings, for instance, were top of the prospects, their contracts should not have been rundown by the time they were 18. There has to be more foresight and less penny-pinching at this level as well.

  11. A more competitive league than Celtic play in saw Johnny Kenny play with a strike partner and were impressed by what they saw.

    Good luck lhad.

Celtic have never recovered from their identity loss inflicted upon them by Brendan Rodgers when he made his team play with one striker in every game.

Easy to get away with in a league with zero opposition.

And a manager who had no ideas of his own so he copied Pep.

Or maybe Rodgers did this as he’d have one less striker to lie to?

How will we ever know if no one ever asks?

  12. Not seen any confirmation of van Den Berg, have i missed announcement? Hope all OK with medical etc given he arrived in Glasgow at same time as Sorensen…….

Maybe instead of the misguided and thoroughly confused Celtic fan dinosaur book singers and virtue signalers asking Liam Scales not to play against Isnotreal for Ireland, maybe the rebel song singers could use this as an eye opener to the 2026 version of Ireland and how far down the chanty it has fallen, and see how out of touch these fake rebels all are? 👀

Or maybe even protest about why Celtic have desecrated the hoops by putting pro genocide funders Adidas symbolism all over what were once sacred hoops? 👀

Celtic fans sleekit and lazy hypocrisy has grabbed Celtic’s soul and thrown it under a bus.

I suspect the “undisclosed fee” for Reo could be interpreted a couple of ways

    1. Low amount the publication of which undermines perceptions of high value individuals being present across the entire Celtic squad

    2. High amount the announcement of which (at this particular time) would do nothing to help final negotiations with Torino for a midfielder

  22. Hopefully someone on Celtic’s chain of command has put the comradely helping hand onto young Colby’s shoulder about wearing pink idiot boots and informed him that if he did that when Celtic were a real club and not a virtue signalers hobby horse, his bahookey would have been booted over to the Janefield street cemetery.

The fates could take things into their own hands if Colby insists on wearing pink boots and no one wants to see that.

Accepting that it doesn’t address your point fully (if at all LOL) , the following may still be interesting. It’s the UEFA (10 season) club coefficient ranking with top five league clubs removed:-

    18 Benfica

    20 Ajax

    23 Shaktar

    25 Sporting

    30 Olympiacos

    31 Salzburg

    33 PSV

    34 Braga

    35 Copenhagen

    38 Feyenoord

    39 GNK Dinamo

    40 Rangers

    41 Slavia Praha

    44 AZ Alkmaar

    45 Victoria Plzen

    46 Basel

    50 Crvena Zvezda

    51 Celtic

My question would be – do you see any opportunity for Celtic moving up this table? And, of course I mean without jeopardising Celtic’s solid financial position.

  28. No bids for CalMac, McCowan, CCV, Trusty, etc?

Is that everybody who came in with Reo, Kyogo, Maeda, CCV, busload all away to new clubs now.

CCV must be pissed about all of those injuries along with Jota, who even came back to get more injuries. 👀

If you want the best out of McCowan get the tireless workhorse Lyall Cameron playing next to him.

    Too controversial?

Paulo Bernardo refused to play tippy tappy in the SCF vs the Huns when he came on as a sub in 90+ minutes.

Instead Paulo grabbed the ball and charged up the field, like a Celtic midfielder when Celtic were a real club pre all of the Rodgers musical chairs and took Celtic’s only shot at goals in the SCF under Rodgers tippy tappy. 👀

His shot was parried out by Butland to Celtic’s lonely starved Irish International striker, Adam Idah, who couldn’t believe that the ball actually came his way for the first time in the entire cup final 90+ minutes and he slotted home to win the cup for Celtic. 👀

A hero was born. Right? 👀

    Well actually no. 👀

Paulo did not know that assisting an Irishman to score the winner for Celtic against the Huns, would put Adam and Paulo into the Rodgers doghouse! 👀

    Why was that?

And where were the protests? 👀

Why was Adam at Celtic for over 2 years as the lonely starved striker under Rodgers, yet scored the winner vs the Huns in a cup final, and loads more important goals, yet not one single time in that 2 years did Celtic fans sing the name of an Irish International striker who scored the winner vs the Huns. 👀

    NOT ONE SINGLE TIME! 👀

And these same hypocrite fans have almost trashed the Celtic hymn YNWA that gave players wings as they were in the trenches for Celtic and seeing the site of those scarves held high and the passion with which it was sung lifted the entire stadium off of the ground, and now these hypocrites sing YNWA in the dark under the Lawwell disco lights with their hands in their pockets. 👀

And now these same hypocrite fans want to tell another Irish International Celtic player, Liam Scales, that he should not play for Ireland vs isnotreal! 👀

Who the fk do those malfunctioning brain drainers think they are? 👀

Hail Hail the hypocrites are here.

Shakes heid and hauds in the tears.

It’s not as simple as money and foresight unfortunately – there are strict rules about contracts and players aged under 16 and then under 18, when they can be offer and how long they are for.
