Result achieved for Celtic but Danny Lennon will see promise for Saturday

903

It’s difficult to analyse Celtic’s performance last night.  For much of the game the players were clearly enjoying themselves and should have been rewarded with more goals, but Dunfermline were incredibly porous in central midfield.  Ki and Commons were able to stage a passing master-class which was pleasing on the eye.

The fact that the deluge of goals didn’t come is not particularly concerning.  Celtic don’t make a habit of profligacy in front of goals, making chances is more of a problem, so it would be a mistake to read too much into one game.

While Dunfermline were out of the contest for most of the evening they also retained two strikers, something we seldom see from SPL visitors at Celtic Park, so that fact that they were able to construct an attempt at goal five minutes from time was not surprising.

Celtic got what they needed from the game but Danny Lennon, who brings St Mirren to Celtic Park on Saturday, will also have seen enough to let him form a decent game-plan, especially if Celtic play a 4-4-2 with two wingers, as they finished the game yesterday.

I wonder court that trial will be in.

Oh, you mean a trial involving the orcs that isn’t at court? Strange days, strange days.

  6. Man Utd: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Heinze (Evra 87), Ronaldo, Carrick (O’Shea 87), Scholes, Giggs, Saha, Rooney.

Subs Not Used: Kuszczak, Brown, Richardson, Fletcher, Silvestre.

Not only have ManU 6 players still there, a lot of the the guys that have left actually retired. I know what you are trying to say but there are a few factors involved…

    a) The Mancs have had ONE coach for a quarter of a century – our recent high turnover has meant each new manager coming in and changing the way the team plays to his own view and needing (in his mind) different personnel to work in that

    b) ManU is one of the richest clubs in the world. Players don’t leave there for money per se – not for transfer fees and not to improve their lot (not even Christiano Ronaldo IMO).

    c) The EPL (and Italy/Spain) is where top players want to play. The guys we can afford are by and large on their way up (Boruc) on their way down (Graveson), or not good enough to play in those leagues.

Thanks for listing the team though, just spent an enjoyable 20 minutes looking up a few on wiki – am pleased for most of them they have returned home are still kicking a ball – Magic seems to have been a lucky mascot for a couple – winning titles in Cyprus (not the best league but the weather will have been nice) and reliving his glory day by winning a title at Wisla Krakow, Naka back home as he intended…

“I know next to nothing about Aluko, so cannot comment, which means I won’t come on here bad-mouthing the guy just because he has signed for the Huns. If he has paid a lot of money out of his own pocket to secure his dream move, then he is to be lauded rather than ridiculed.

“Do we have to hate EVERYBODY who has anything to do with Rangers”

Who is bad mouthing Aluko? Who is expressing any hatred towards him?

Sone Aluko and his family have had to pay compensation to Aberdeen. This has nothing to do with any ‘dream move’. It is down to the fact that Rangers are in the embarrassing position of being unable to make any financial contribution.

The Huns deserved to be ridiculed for this don’t you agree?

  12. Mort: “Has anyone had any expeirence of anything similar and if so, were you able to get the money back. the most galling thing in this is that the bank allowed this withdrawl to go well overdrawn without even contacting us before hand to see if it was us who made the transaction.”

Think that’s probably the reason why they are going straight for refund. Most problems I have had have been to do with credit cards – travel a lot and have an AmEx card that is usually just for hotels/restaurants – got a call from them asking if I’d been in Italy – yeah, couple of weeks back – “did you buy 2 TVs on an Italian internet site? Thought not”. Money back. And MBNA credited me back for some blank credit card cheques that I never asked for and never received but were made out to cash ffs….

Financial institutions will wear the costs of these type of frauds but you are probably in a especially strong position in that the transaction was not the normal type that was assocaited with your account. Just bang on about risk management practices – they were at fault for not checking….

I feel like saying “what were you thinking” to all victims of scammers that end up giving away their life savings in the pursuit of easy money.

What do we know about Aluko?

He has given away his savings and the savings of his parents in a lump sum. He has pledged years of his future income in order to play at the top level in Scotland and get easy money. It is in the public domain that rangers are on the brink of administration and not in a position to pay the easy money that Aluko thinks he is going to get.

    What were you thinking Aluko?

Sion’s case relates to the meaning of some of the words used by UEFA when Sion were originally sanctioned for signing a player “illegally “.

Sion argue that UEFA have constantly tried to obfuscate the issue by playing games with language —-eg ——-conducting proceedings in one language and then publishing the transcript of those proceedings in another. Sion allege that they attended meetings with UEFA where the participants spoke 4 different languages and UEFA then produced a transcript in a language which had not been used at those meetings.

Sion have claimed that there are many translation errors in a lot of the relevant documentation.

Sion allege that UEFA speak with forked tongue.

  16. And my ridiclue of “the dream move” was more about the treatment of the story by the laptop loyal than the criticism of the boy himself. So his dream move is actually to use Rangers as a stepping stone? Isn’t that what Celtic are for Mr Jackson?

Cheers for that. We don’t even have an overdraft facility so I don’t think I’d even be able to make that type of a withdrawl. I’m sure it would come up insufficient funds.

I once saw an interview with Xavi on TV when he said that the thinking and most important thing they teach is, never give the ball away, the first thing they teach!! It , he said, was virtually a hanging offence to do so, and if you did give it away then you had really to bust a gut to get the ball back. Simple stuff really.

    Religiously Aggravated offending Stats Question

288 of 694 victims were Police

400 of 694 were derogatory towards RC

How many of the 288 offences against police were also derogatory towards RC. Answering this will let us know out of the 406 offences to general public, how many were derogatory towards RC and IMO provide a more accurate picture of the actual problem.

This would be a very interesting stat if available. I am going to send an FOI request for this, but if anyone is aware if that stat has been provided, would appreciate pointed in the right direction.

A very interesting point that you make. I, for one, lament about our failure to beat rangers in their hour of bankruptcy.

    Re the Sonny Aluko deal

From what I can gather, it seems that Aluko will be paying 200k to play for rangers. Hmmm sounds a bit strange. Now Im no accountant, but “something stinks in the state of Govan.” (I’m no literary genius either – I know)

It has been reported that Aluko has paid a deposit to the dons and that the balance will be paid by Aluko to Aberdeen in a “cooperative 20 week club” fashion, before his contract at ibroke expires in 6 months time.

So let me get this right then

£200,000 to be paid by Aluko to Aberdeen, in 26 weekly instalments of around £8,000 per week

Obviously Aluko needs to earn at least £8,000 from the huns to pay this back and he also needs to earn a living fitba players wage on top. So the huns would need to pay Aluko around £12,000 per week in order that he can do this.

However if Aluko needs to take home £12,000 a week he needs to get a top line of say £20,000 a week cover NI and income tax deductions

So Rangers would need to pay £520, 000 in a 6 month period to Aluko in wages.

Have I got that right? Aluko is on £20,000+ contract?
