Result achieved for Celtic but Danny Lennon will see promise for Saturday

903

It’s difficult to analyse Celtic’s performance last night.  For much of the game the players were clearly enjoying themselves and should have been rewarded with more goals, but Dunfermline were incredibly porous in central midfield.  Ki and Commons were able to stage a passing master-class which was pleasing on the eye.

The fact that the deluge of goals didn’t come is not particularly concerning.  Celtic don’t make a habit of profligacy in front of goals, making chances is more of a problem, so it would be a mistake to read too much into one game.

While Dunfermline were out of the contest for most of the evening they also retained two strikers, something we seldom see from SPL visitors at Celtic Park, so that fact that they were able to construct an attempt at goal five minutes from time was not surprising.

Celtic got what they needed from the game but Danny Lennon, who brings St Mirren to Celtic Park on Saturday, will also have seen enough to let him form a decent game-plan, especially if Celtic play a 4-4-2 with two wingers, as they finished the game yesterday.

Is it correct that alukp will pay the dons 200k over 2 years even if he only has a 6 month contract

it seems to me that the dons thought that the huns credit was no good and insisted that aluko can take his chance with the huns credit

but surely aluko wouldnt commit himself to payiong 200k when he only has a 6 month contract, or does he have a 2 year contract?

A very interesting point that you make. I, for one, lament about our failure to beat rangers in their hour of bankruptcy.

    ——————————

Believe me, I am lamenting away over here big style, and have been for 3 years and counting.

But the point is that we are quick to turn on our own, and we need to realise the material impact Rangers’ behaviour has had on our ability to compete. This has had a huge knock on impact (no titles = no CL money = reduced quality of playing squad because we live within our means = changing managers and so on and so forth). And that is before you consider the factors that have been at play external to spending money on footballers. We need to aim our anger at the right targets.

if the Daily Rangers is to be believed. ant believe I typed that.

The dons got 50,000 quid from Aluko up front for his first 6 months. This 50K came from him, his parents and agent.

    So 6 months = 50K

The remaining 150,000 will be paid by him over two years once he gets his two year contract from Rangers. So the Dons risk getting nothing for him if the huns dont give him a two year contract.

If they do he will have to pay 6,250 pounds a month, approx 1,5K a week to the dandy dons but the huns be then will have promised him tevez level wages.

He will be on enough to cover the inital 50K and then some.

I reckon he will for his 6 month stint be on about 20K a month.

    From the Celtic Trust Website-

Short report of meeting with ACC Corrigan

Published on Friday 25th November, 2011 by Celtic Trust

Fans put concerns to Strathclyde Police

The Celtic Trust, together with representatives of the CSA, the ARCSC and the AICSC met with the Assistant Chief Constable and another officer yesterday to discuss a number of issues affecting Celtic fans. Primarily we wished to raise concerns about the policing of the Hibs game on 29th October which appeared to depart from normal procedures; we wished to discuss the refusal of the Match Commander to discuss this with us after the event (as would be normal) and the circumstances surrounding a number of recent arrests of Celtic fans which also appeared to depart from normal procedures.

We conveyed in detail our concerns about these issues and Mr Corrigan responded in a full and frank manner to most of our concerns and promised to provide a further written response to some of the issues he was not able to address on the day.

Mr Corrigan conveyed his wish that there be a better relationship between the police and the supporters’ organisations and his strong desire that young people, who would not normally come into contact with the criminal justice system, should not do so in the context of a game of football.

A fuller report will appear on this and other sites over the next few days

I was quite impressed with Aluko on a few occassions when I saw him play. Young athletic player with a terrific strike, albeit apt to disappear during games.

As a 19 year old signing for Aberdeen, I reckon his basic wage would not exceed £1000 per week, plus appearance related and assorted bonuses. It probably rose to around £1500 per week as he turned 21 years old.

There’s a fair chance that he is now committed to paying Aberdeen more in ‘Training Compensation’ over the next 2 years than Aberdeen paid him in wages in the 3 years he was employed there.

    Frankly, it’s a disgrace.

I’m not sure how you think I was mocking Aluko? I actually feel sorry for him – because he is going to get shafted big time on this deal.

Regardless of how many points the Huns are ahead of us at the moment, it was 15 points three weeks ago – they deserve to be ridiculed over the Aluko deal.

Just to clarify; a major football club with a multi-million pound annual turnover required an unemployed footballer to pay £50,000 upfront out of his own pocket in order to sign for them for six months.

If you don’t think the Huns deserve to be mocked for that then I’m at a loss.

Can I ask, would you be as sympathetic towards Celtic if they had the brass neck to pull the same stroke?

Pat Fenlon is the new manager of Hibernian, having signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Easter Road.

The 42-year-old arrives from Bohemians and succeeds Colin Calderwood, who was sacked earlier this month and has since joined Birmingham.

Fenlon has won five League of Ireland titles and three cup competitions during a nine-year managerial career in his homeland.

“I’m really excited by the prospect,” Fenlon told the club website.

“Hibernian are a club with a rich history and proud traditions.”

The Edinburgh outfit finished a disappointing 10th in the Scottish Premier League last season and currently sit ninth in the table with 14 points from 15 games.

“In order to move Hibernian forward there will need to be a lot of hard work and a clear change in mindset shown collectively by the team,” added Fenlon.

“There are a lot of quality players on Hibernian’s playing staff and it is now my job to make sure they function as a team.

“The primary goal is to provide winning football to the Hibernian supporters, who have gone through some hard times recently.”

Fenlon, who was in charge of Bohemians since late 2007 and was close to becoming Dundee United manager in January 2010.

However, compensation could not be agreed between the clubs.

There was a similar obstacle when Kilmarnock expressed an interest in Fenlon that summer and he was quoted in December as being interested in becoming Motherwell manager, the position eventually going to Stuart McCall.

Apart from his spell as a youth player with Chelsea, Dublin-born Fenlon has spent his career in Ireland.

He played for St Patrick’s Athletic, Bohemians, Linfield, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne, where he first turned to management in 2002 before spells with Derry City and Republic of Ireland Under-23s and then returning to the Gypsies.

Having won three championships in his five seasons at Shelbourne, Fenlon led Bohemians to the League of Ireland and FAI Cup double in his first full term and retained the title the following year.

However, Bohemians finished the most recent campaign in fifth place as Shamrock Rovers won the title for a second year running.

“Put simply, Pat Fenlon is a winner,” said Easter Road chairman Rod Petrie.

“He has a record of winning championships and cups at different clubs and his teams have competed regularly in Europe.

“This pedigree is matched by the ambition Hibernian has for sporting success.”

Billy Brown, who was brought in to assist Calderwood in mid-September, was in charge for last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock and was interviewed for the manager’s post.

The statement from Hibernian does not mention what the future holds for the 60-year-old former Hearts assistant manager.

BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound will be coming live from Murrayfield Stadium on 29 November. Sign up for tickets if you would like to be part of the audience.
