Result achieved for Celtic but Danny Lennon will see promise for Saturday

903

It’s difficult to analyse Celtic’s performance last night.  For much of the game the players were clearly enjoying themselves and should have been rewarded with more goals, but Dunfermline were incredibly porous in central midfield.  Ki and Commons were able to stage a passing master-class which was pleasing on the eye.

The fact that the deluge of goals didn’t come is not particularly concerning.  Celtic don’t make a habit of profligacy in front of goals, making chances is more of a problem, so it would be a mistake to read too much into one game.

While Dunfermline were out of the contest for most of the evening they also retained two strikers, something we seldom see from SPL visitors at Celtic Park, so that fact that they were able to construct an attempt at goal five minutes from time was not surprising.

Celtic got what they needed from the game but Danny Lennon, who brings St Mirren to Celtic Park on Saturday, will also have seen enough to let him form a decent game-plan, especially if Celtic play a 4-4-2 with two wingers, as they finished the game yesterday.

I’d be surprised if it was the Irish fans because for years they sang little or nothing. Only really when Jackie Charlton took over in the 80s did the crowds get behind the team. I’d say if Celtic fans sang the fields anytime before the early 80s, they will have done so first.

    I have this feeling that…..

Pat Fenlon is using Hibs as a, stepping-stone to the Celtic managers job ?

    Watch this space……

  3. I have heard the “dont laugh till you see him play” argument several times this morning. All from huns trying to mitigate the very obvious mockery.

Unemployed Aberdeen reject with a penchant for doing a houdini in games, who has to pay to play as Rangers can’t even scrape together £50k up front.

Oh aye, we should temper our laughs….

  4. Excuse my ignorance, but not being able to go to games, can someone explain all these references to the Gazebo? Is it a new club/bar near the stadium?

Not being funny. It’s a serious question. I am truly mystified.

    Thanks

“Of course Rangers are to be laughed at and ridiculed for the Aluko deal. My one and only comment on this was in defence of the player.”

You accused posters of expressing hatred towards him. That and the p1sh about his ‘dream move’.

    God please no.

Rigid 442 with a win at all cost even if it means kicking anything that moves mentality.

If anything he’d suit Rangers more!

Good news for our Antipodean posters today: Apparently, in Australia, the burden of genital warts has fallen dramatically since the introduction of quadrivalent vaccine.

    Quick, but important question Comrades;

I have money on this .

Who sang the Fields Of Athenry first, Celtic or Rep of Ireland Fans ??

Quick but true answer would be appreciated (backed with stats if possible)

    ……………

We first sang the Fields at a game against the huns on 25th November 1990 in response to them singing sectarian bile to the fields tune

Ok, he’s paying Aberdeen a lot of money to move to Rangers, but I apologise for assuming that the player saw it as his “dream move”.

    Lads/Lassies,

Wikipedia claims that Rep of Ireland fans first sang it at the World cup in Italy in 1990.

I disagree and am sure Pete St John said we sang it first. I need some proof !!!!

Greenjedi,so the Huns used the tune first, before Celtic or Eire..aye sone Aluka got a good deal aswell..

  12. ‘The song was adopted by Republic of Ireland national football team supporters during the 1990 World Cup and subsequently by Celtic supporters in the early 1990s.’

    -according to Wiki/EWLM/EWTB. SIMBT.

Would I be correct in saying that, the last time we won 3iar, we played a rigid 442 and, put Robson and Hartley in midfield for the last 7 games, two players who weren’t slow in putting a tackle in ?

    Hail! Hail!

  14. MadraRua

If Wikipedia is correct about when the Irish fans sung it first at WC 90 (and with Wiki its a big if) then they sang it before us.

But to be honest I watched every game and it never registered with me at the time.

I think it’s a safe bet that he’s the highest paying player in the World though.

Puts a new spin on the old ‘pay-per-game’ contracts usually reserved for sick-notes.

  16. coorslad is Neil Lennon on

MadraRua,I would go with that,I remember Pete himself singing it @ Celtic Park..there was a recent program about it,I think he may have said that, now Liverpool claim it..

  17. Lads serious debate here, why has the BBC not showed the incident with Huns vs st Johnstone ie the one were Craig Thompson flagged for offside agai st johns and lomas went nuts and made a gesture towards him and lomas was to be called up b4 SFA but now he’s not.

This incident isn’t anywhere so you have to ask yourself have the SFA looked at this incident and seen Thompson has made a big honest mistake honest and decided not to show this for some reason.

If it’s a decision for Celtic it’s splashed all over the papers and all over phone ins, please help on this and if anyone can get this incident it would be much obliged.

You seriously have to ask why was lomas not called up b4 the SFA.

I was in Santa Ponsa for Italia 90,and remember it was sang from morning to night.I’ve a feeling it was being sang at Celtic games the previous seasons

Good man. We get enough of that crap from people masquerading as sports journalists in the Scottish media.

  20. Aluko had a very brief and unsuccessful trial with Juventus.

Maybe Aberdeen charge more if you opt to play for Juve rather than Rangers ?

Maybe Juve and Serie A wasn’t as attractive for Aluko as Rangers and The SPL ?.

Perugia charged Gadaffi millions of Euros when they surprisingly signed one of his sons. He only played once -a 15 minute appearance in a crucial [ for Perugia ] game against Juve . Juve won. Interestingly -at that point Gadaffi owned @10 % of Juve.—

Maybe Bankrupt FC might chose to follow in Perugia’s footsteps. ? Jersey for Hire !
