Results are all, even when defending

I caught a bit of Radio Scotland at halftime during the Aberdeen-Celtic game on Saturday.  Former Aberdeen captain and manager Willie Miller was scathing about the tactics deployed by Jim Goodwin.  Post-match, it felt as though Willie’s early intervention had given the rest of the media a line they were happy to run with.  I’ve been in press rooms and seen this happen.  “What’s our take?” conversations, where a strong line is agreed upon that several will get behind, providing cover for all.

Willie doesn’t need this cover, his credentials provide that, but although Aberdeen’s 88-minute attempt to secure a 0-0 draw was dire, it was certainly not a new innovation, even for Aberdeen.  What was new is the uniform post-match reaction.  Where club hero goes, media follows and many fans are easily persuaded.  Goodwin is now under more pressure than he would want to be ahead of tonight’s home fixture against Newco.

If he leaves Pittodrie tonight having taken no points from two home games and made little effort to attack, he will face serious questions.  If he parks the bus and gets a point, a local oil sheik might ask him to wear a chiffon cape.  Results are all in football.

  2. Haven’t read back, but here are some of my observations…for what it’s worth…

    1) Sevco are poor

    2) Sevco will finish miles clear of all 10 other teams, because the other 10 are so bad/inconsistent.

    3) tonight’s result was no surprise; though the way they went about it was unexpected.

    4) I always hope they drop points in the league, but I don’t expect it (given how poor the rest are)

    5) I’m not jumping on any bandwagon that is claiming Aberdeen we’re done out of two penalties tonight. Only saw quick replay of each. First one is never a penalty. Second one, I couldn’t see a definitive view, but noticed that not one Dons player appealed for a pen.

    6) just because we have been wronged (Tynecastle; Bernabei) does not (in my mind) make me desire consistently wrong calls to be made. Two wrongs do not make it right, for me. I’d rather see correct decisions made from here on in.

    7) I was delighted when we scored at Pittodrie – we deserved the victory. Zombies will have be feeling the same tonight.

    8) looking at the bare stats tonight, Sevco arguably deserved the 3 pts.

    9) Sevco only won because Aberdeen gifted them all 3 goals. Sakala had two attempts to score the 1st, after the Dons CH played the ball straight back to him; the keeper gifted the 2nd goal; the 3rd goal eas gifted by the CH heading the ball back into the danger area (same CH that gifted the 1st?). All three were really poor goals to concede/gift.

Ps – forgive me father if I have sinned. I looked at betting odds in play after Dons went 2-1 up. Had a couple of modest bets on the draw (10/3) and a Sevco win (9/2) just in case Dons failed to hold on. Would have been delighted to lose all stake money via a Dons win. But sought financial compensation should Dons fail to hold out. Noticed at 85 mins that Sevco were 50/1 to win – so stuck a barmy £1 on, just for the hell of it. Glanced at odds again during injury time and saw Sevco were 150/1 to win, just as they suspended betting right in front of my eyes when Arfield equalised.

Disappointed that Dons didn’t hold on for the win, but their misfortune saw my bookie funds boosted.

Aff to bed now, before penance can be self-imposed…

  3. Stark reality is that had Captain Calum not scored the late winner at the weekend we would be only 4 points ahead and the Huns, Scottish media and the referees would be thinkable we are catchable.

As it is a win later today will restore the gap and underline the task they all have ahead of them.

Goodwin shot himself in the foot again. Just a bad coach teaching awful tactics the same as the other 10 team managers in our league.

We have a a battle against another cheating fraud tonight MartHUNndale.

  7. My friends in Celtic,

To reiterate, I would expect circa 9 minutes above the 90 tonight.

Livingston will commence wasting time from the first kick off. That is disrespecting football, the crowd and their own ability.

About time this was addressed in every single game.

  13. BETTING on The Huns…

Last week I backed the Huns to beat Hibs by 3 – 2 at odds of 22/1…CORRECT SCORE.

    Yesterday, I did it AGAIN…..Aberdeen – 2 v Huns – 3….again at odds of 22/1 with Bet365.

I KNOW that my Bets do NOT INFLUENCE the Scoreline in any game…but I MUST STOP doing that Bet….!

Having said all that, I ALREADY have the Huns to win 3 – 2 last night….and I have ALREADY did the very same Score Line for the Huns v Ross County on Friday …again at odds of 22/1.

I am MORE THAN HAPPY for my Bets to get BEAT….but I may as well win some Cash while the huns ” Ride their Luck”…aided and abetted with DODGY REFS and VAR, game after game.

I saw at LEAST ONE strong penalty claim for Aberdeen last night go the way of the Huns…Yet again.

    HH

  14. Aberdeen v HUNS last night…..

I was shouting at my TV on at least Three occasions when there were ” HANDBAGS” incidents between BOTH sets of players last night.

Yet again MORELOS was in the middle of these ” incidents”…attempting to show his Team Mates and the Hun support that he is some kind of HARD CASE ?????

Morelos is one of the most COWARDLY CHUMPS that I have EVER seen on ANY Fitba Pitch !

That HUN COWARD CHUMP…would run a MILE….IF there was a real PUNCH UP.

Also, the Hun goalie ( yet again) MacGregor displayed his attempted THUGGERY whenever the Huns are DRAWING or getting BEAT….Like Morelos, when at 2 – 1 to Aberdeen…..and with the Ball in his hands……he FLUNG OUT an ELBOW at an Aberdeen player who was running alongside him… there was NO CONTACT made…but ” The INTENT” WAS there for the Ref and VAR to see…yet again no action taken by the Ref and/or VAR ?

Players can be Yellow Carded and/or RED Carded these days for showing ” INTENT” to harm an opponent….UNLESS its a HUN THUG who is clearly showing the ” INTENT” ….Apparently. ?

    HH

  15. I was shouting at my TV on at least Three occasions when there were ” HANDBAGS” incidents between BOTH sets of players last night.

POSSIBLE CORRECTION….MAYBE it was only TWICE…..NOT Three times..on reflection ?

  16. Will the Huns beat ROSS COUNTY by 3 – 2 on Frday night.

IF they did…that would mean a Hat Trick for BEALE in his first Three games…ALL by the same score line of 3_- 2,

    surely NOT ?

Maybe Ross County will beat the Huns 3 -2 on Friday….woudnt that be nice ?

    LOL

Great post but no absolution for sins like that.

  18. BIG Jimmy

I had a £10 free bet with Paddy Power yesterday. Stuck it on a correct score – Aberdeen to win 2-1 @ 14/1.

To say I was gutted at the turnaround is an understatement. Bliddy Aberdeen. If I had any hair I’d be tearing it out.
