RETURN OF AN INVINCIBLE

CELTIC Invincible Stuart Armstrong has made a dramatic return to the Premiership after signing a two-year deal with Aberdeen.

The Scotland international midfielder, 33, had been up for grabs as a free agent after leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

Armstrong joined the Hoops in a £2million double deal alongside Gary Mackay-Steven from Dundee United in January 2015, left the club seven years ago in a £7million move to Southampton after playing his part in Brendan Rodgers’ debut 2016/17 campaign when the team swept to the treble with a phenomenal unbeaten record.

HAPPY DAZE…Stuart Armstrong is about to be congratulated by Kieran Tierney after hitting the Scottish Cup Final equaliser against Aberdeen at Hampden in 2017. Future Celtic team-mate Johnny Hayes looks on.

Ironically, Celtic sealed that memorable treble when they beat the Dons in the Scottish Cup Final where the Pittodrie club’s latest signing netted the equaliser after Johnny Hayes had fired the north east outfit into the lead.

Tom Rogic, of course, took centre stage to slide in the last-gasp winner on a historic day for the club.

Armstrong, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “These things always happen fast, but I am delighted to be here.

“I’ve not been back to the city for a long time, so it’s nice to come back full circle in a football sense.

“It’s a good footballing decision for me. It’s a chance for me to play competitive, challenging football and the lure of playing in Europe is exciting.

“I hope I can add something to the team and help us achieve something special together.”

Armstrong is due to make his Celtic Park comeback on Saturday December 20 when the Dons, who lost 2-0 to the champions last month, travel to Glasgow on Premiership business.
