Return of Hooper-Stokes man-love required

468

Since a couple of flat performances against Sion in the qualifying round, Celtic have reserved some of their most organised performances of the season for the Europa League, despite the lack of a victory.  Honourable defeat in Madrid followed by more-than-credible draws against Udinese and Rennes suggest there is more to this Celtic team that we see in the SPL.

It’s hard to look forward to the second half of the season and the potential for knock out football in the Europa League but if Celtic get their act together, a win tonight could go a long way towards restoring the reputation of the club, and a few players.

How Neil Lennon responds to yet more injury absentees is difficult to imagine.  I’m not expecting fluency from a makeshift defence and midfield, although Celtic Flourished in the Glasgow derby in similar circumstances on 2 January this year, but I’m hoping to see Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes look more like a partnership.  We need both players on form and enjoying their work if any progress is to be made.

Busy day ahead but the Hearts situation is possibly worth a discussion this afternoon.  The scenario changes by the day at Ibrox but that conversation will need to wait.

    hankray,

I notice you like to have a go at the players about injury, I’ve yet to see you condemn the unpunished assaults the players suffer week in week out. We have a very high injury ratio, and you blame that on our players, what you are saying is our players are to blame for the lack of protection from the officials, they should play regardless of their physical condition, coco.

Your go at Wilson is standard issue from you, we have to forget he is consistently assaulted during a game but is a liability, how does that work, surely if he is being set up for that kind of treatment someone somewhere rates him.

Then again that is unlikely to make any difference to you, the altzheimers is stron with you young padwan.

Is the PSG 0-3 our worst result at home in Europe. I don’t remember anyone saying so at the time, but can’t think of anything worse. They were awesome that night, although we had no defenders to speak of… how things change.

Can anyone say definitively who is injured right now? I honestly can’t recall an occasion when I’ve not been able to say who’s fit and who isn’t. I assume they’re all injured, and it’s just who can be coaxed into a strip…

  7. Mark Wilson was in London seeing a knee specialist yesterday and could be out for between four and six months if he needs surgery.

What is going on at Lennoxtown? Our injuries are an absolute disgrace.

When you look at the injuries this season, can we really blame Lennon for our poor form?

Not played the same back four in consecutive games all season.

  8. Philvis, I tend to agree with you on that.

George Harrison had a big splurge of high quality songs rejected by the Beatles on All Things Must Pass and then a tail off, unfortunately.

I know Sammi divides opinion, and rightly so. I myself feel he’s always the scapegoat, although I am finding it harder to defend him on recent form.

I think his attitude should be noted though, constantly criticized from his own fans, to the extent of booing at Celtic Park. But he never hides for me. Read any of his comments he always states his lover for the club, always gives his time to the fans. I know we need ability to go with that but not many share his commitment. IMO

  10. Emilio Izaguirre, Scott Brown and Kelvin Wilson remain sidelined; Joe Ledley (calf), Charlie Mulgrew (hamstring), Mark Wilson (knee), Mo Bangura (knee) and Ki Sung-Yeung (virus) will also miss out, whilst Thomas Rogne and Badr El-Kaddouri are ineligible.

    TET,

I expect that will need to wait till the league becomes a one horse race, I’d also expect a clear out at the sectarian football association when the fraud investigation begins :o)

Only then will there be any chance to install a fair and transparent set up.

Spot on. There is a myth that Sammi is a “s=-=-=bag”. Absolute nonsense. These people should take a look at the Lennon “not proven” assault footage at Tynecastle. The first player to run over and assist his manager?

  21. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Asonofdan,

I can think of two players out with strains, Charlie and Bangura, Charlie’s was sustained playing 1st team and Bang Bang sustained trying to impress the manager during training, I’ve no problem with that. Our big problem is the supervised GBH played out on the pitch every weekend, and there is nothing lennoxtown can do about that except pick up the pieces after the game.

Totally agree….. and their SFA masters while we’re at it.

  27. For the folk that suggest we go into the game the night with Hooper and Stokes warming the bench consider this stat.

So far this season only 7 players have scored goal(s) for Celtic

    Stokes 6

    Hooper 6

    Forrest 6

    Ki 5

    Ledley 3

    Mulgrew 3

    Kaddouri 1

Now the likelihood from reports so far is that Ledley, Mulgrew and Ki are out injured with Kaddouri ineligble.

Do we really want to go into the game then with only 1 scorer (Forrest) in the starting 11? I don’t!!

  28. Strange thing. I was supposed to be somewhere between 8 and 10 this evening which meant I wasn’t going to be able to see the game. Normally this sends me in to some kind of delirium. But not this time. Couldn’t care less was the feeling.

However, I have now been given a reprieve and have found myself looking forward to the game.

My normally optimistic self is expecting a tanking. But as always with European football, it’s great to win, it’s acceptable not to lose, it’s crap losing but the real nerves and worry for me are for Sunday. And again, I have commitments which might mean missing the game!!! That I am raging about.

If anyone can work out the point of this post please let me know.
