BAD Bhoy Boli Bolingoli has been snapped up by Standard Liege – just a few days after being freed by KV Mechelen.
The former Celtic left-back was told his contract was not getting renewed by the Belgian club a week ago on Monday, the defender’s 29th birthday!
Bolingoli, who completed his ill-fated £3million transfer to the Hoops from Rapid Vienna in July 2019, didn’t have to wait long to find a new club with the Liege outfit offering him a two-year deal.
The defender, of course, was involved in the controverial incident in August 2020 when he broke strict Government Covid regulations for a hush-hush break with his girlfriend to Spain.
HEADING FOR THE EXIT…Boli Bolingoli in his last Celtic appearance against Motherwell, a 2-0 win at Fir Park in October 2021.
The blundering Belgian’s secret sunshine trip was exposed AFTER a cameo appearance in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the second Premiership game of the club’s disastrous quest for a historic tenth successive title.
Bolingoli never played again for Neil Lennon and was packed off to Turkey on a season-long loan with Instanbul Basaksehir.
He returned to Parkhead in June 2021 and made two first-team appearances for Ange Postecoglou – the 1-0 loss at Livingston in September and the 2-0 win at Motherwell the following month.
The player didn’t feature again and agreed a short-term loan at Russian side Ufa which was shelved when the country invaded Ukraine in January 2022.
Bolingoli eventually left the Hoops that summer for KV Mechelen on a two-year deal.
Now he is back with Standard Liege after his contract expired.
