REVEALED: ANGE’S TRANSFER PRIORITIES

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has revealed his transfer priorities as the clock ticks down towards deadliine day.

The Celtic boss has brought in five players in recent weeks, but is still in the hunt for more signings before the transfer window closes at 11pm on August 31.

The Hoops have spent something in the region of £13.6million in bringing in the likes of Israeli winger Liel Abada, Swedish central defender Carl Starfelt, Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi. former England keeper Joe Hart and Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy. Before their arrival, the Parkhead club also raided Sheffield Wednesday for out-of-contract youngsters Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide.

Celtic, of course, are currently without a recruitment chief, while a sporting director is another position that needs to be filled.

But Postecoglou insisted his will only switch to the behind-the-scenes roles when the transfer window closes.

He said: “Whenever someone above me calls about anything other than bringing in players, I sort of say connections are bad. Can we try later!

“My sole focus at the moment is getting the right squad together.

“That doesn’t mean the things are not important. They are. A priority. But priority post window.

“The most important thing now and the thing supporters and players would want is to get the right squad together for us to challenge this year.”

Postecoglou, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “I’ve got some ideas and Dom McKay has some on how we restructure things in the football department, so we’ll crack on with that once the window closes.

“We’ve got some gaps and we’ll definitely fill those with the right people. That’s really important and Dom’s been really supportive on that.

“At the moment, my focus is well and truly on getting the players in.”
