With two days of the transfer window left Celtic have strengthened attack with the loan acquisition of Timo Weah and Oliver Burke, and the permanent signing of Vakoun Issouf Bayo. Ukrainian winger, Maryan Shved, is in discussions with the club but as Brendan Rodgers explained, we have many wingers at the club right now, so it is likely that if the deal concludes, Maryan will be loaned back to Ukraine until Burke and Weah depart at the end of the season.
Brendan also clarified the position in central defence, where we have two players to replace for the Champions League qualifiers, but Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic will retain their positions until the end of the season. A lot of work in June for this issue.
The other position that remains active is right back. Michael Lustig has been with the club seven years but is likely to depart at the end of the season, with injuries taking their toll. I know there are a few options active but nothing yet concluded, however, this will be the main focus for the next two days.

All these comments on the number of players that we have for certain positions.
That is the problem.
We have too much quantity and not enough quality.
Our recruitment is a fecking shambles .

We have CB’s who are good enough ,CB’s who are not yet good enough but might become so , and CB’s who possibly will never be good enough . We also have CB’s who are not really CB’s , but if the worst comes to the worst , they might have to pretend to be.
The one thing they have in common is that they are either injury prone when they come here ,or become injury prone once they’re here.
What we need is a quality CB pairing who can remain fit and play together for most of the season , as Celtic CB’s of my youth did.

Parkhead chiefs are in discussions with the player’s representatives as they look to release him from his contract 18 months early.
Compper was signed in last year’s January transfer window from RB Leipzig for a fee of around £1 million.
However, he has made just appearance since his signing, playing 83 minutes of a Scottish Cup victory over Greenock Morton last March.
Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “There’s nothing as of yet – the club are speaking to Marvin’s representatives to try and find a solution.”
Compper is a strange one, almost immediately he was injured, how come he was able to pass a thorough medical examination, there was no time pressure on his signing as he arrived just after New Year, I know BR has said blame him , however how was he able to pass a medical ? Baffling

The centre back conundrum is less a problem than we think & may be getting solved before our eyes.
Much of the issue over “centre backs” have been caused by our goal keeper trying to be a sweeper keeper.
Gordon is a fine shot stopper but his distrbution is poor & is often little more than a hospital pass to whoever receives it. I don’t see him taking charge of his area during games or imposing himself on his pwn defenders. It’s not personal but I don’t think this stuff is part of his character or make up.
If you as a defender don’t have confidence in your goalkeeper then it will affect your play & your decision making. The opposition has not been of the highest calibre but is it coincidence that we have not conceded any goals in 3 games?
Bain is less of a shot stopper but his passing/kicking & his bravery are better than Gordon’s.
I don’t know if his communication with his defenders is any better.
Good players around him can make most players look better – no more so when your keeper takes charge.
