Right back position focus for last days of the window

203

With two days of the transfer window left Celtic have strengthened attack with the loan acquisition of Timo Weah and Oliver Burke, and the permanent signing of Vakoun Issouf Bayo.  Ukrainian winger, Maryan Shved, is in discussions with the club but as Brendan Rodgers explained, we have many wingers at the club right now, so it is likely that if the deal concludes, Maryan will be loaned back to Ukraine until Burke and Weah depart at the end of the season.

Brendan also clarified the position in central defence, where we have two players to replace for the Champions League qualifiers, but Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic will retain their positions until the end of the season.  A lot of work in June for this issue.

The other position that remains active is right back.  Michael Lustig has been with the club seven years but is likely to depart at the end of the season, with injuries taking their toll.  I know there are a few options active but nothing yet concluded, however, this will be the main focus for the next two days.

The internet would have him as one of our top earners if we matched his wages

” If being a well run PLC and beating “Rangers” is your thing well knock yourself out.”

    Just to be clear:

Winning as much as possible in Scotland and doing as well as possible in Europe is `my thing.`

” Possibly my green tinted glasses view of Celtic is warped by the fact my first 12 years as a Celtic supporter was with Jock Stein at the helm.

A man for whom mediocrity was not an option.”

For the record I see a similar mindset in our current manager… difference is, he’s not at the helm.”

Jock Stein was amazing. The night it was announced he was to be our Manager,I immediately felt we would never lose again !! Honest, that is really how I felt!

That could not happen now and not just because I have changed….football has too. Probably even more than I have !

I am happy with Cetlic`s present state of affairs. I am not happy that money alone has made us uncompetitive in Europe.Jock Stein would,in my opibion, be no more of a success in the current state of affairs than is Brendan Rodgers. There is not a Manager in World Football who could, effectively, do that.

  3. And the cry was no defenders.

Ossie Adiles Spurs manager, or when Mogga was at the helm.

    Attack! Attack! Attack!

    It’s a beautiful day.

    We should be!

    But unsure we are?

Don’t think our coaches have found a balance with our multitude of midfielders this or last season when playing Brown.

Not sure he is suited to role he has to perform.

Great player and captain so hopefully we find the right formula with him in the team.

  5. Broony: yes for me. But, what is his best position in the near term?

See you on the Emerald Express in a few hours JJHS!

Hi mate.a lot of worrying hun related conjecture in your post.

    @@@@@@@@@

Hi pal , aye a suppose you are right , just hate them being anywhere near us , in fact I wanted them gone . Don’t think I am not aware when on our game and the timid guys in our team which in my opinion we have too many , decide to roll the sleeves up , that we are not streets ahead of them .

It’s not just them we have to be wary off , it’s the men in black , when they are in there place ,well behind us ,there imput is meaningless ,and that’s the way I like it , and I am sure many on here are of the same mindset. We shouldn’t,t on the second last day of the window still be looking for players to fill the positions which we badly need replacements , positions which have needed filled for some time now , I don’t want our club to live beyond its means , I want our club to compete at as high a level as It can . To win every trophy that it is possible to win . No 1 being the premier league , which for me and is two fold . We are crowned champions ,with the chance of the financial rewards that the CL bring , secondly if we have that chance they don’t . But for that to be realised ,we have to keep upgrading the team , we have to seek to bring in the personnel to improve the team . But at celtic as we all know that doesn’t happen . But as always just my opinions . HH

  7. CELTIC40ME @ 11:34 AM,

Undoubtedly. BR had limited experience in Europe and hadn’t been as successful in that aspect of his career as some other aspects.

It’s no coincidence that BR’s teams greatest success in Europe was against an EPL Club, a League where he thrived.

For me what should have happened was this…

…he learns from his experiences he builds a squad to implement the desired tactics and perform at the necessary European level.

That takes, training, time, focus, expertise and commitment.

A Club the size of Celtic cannot achieve that half-cocked.

Hope we win this evening to recreate the gap…

Then let’s see what the remainder of the window brings…

And the Valencia games will give us a good indication of where we are…

    HOT SMOKED @ 11:42 AM,

If being as successful as we can in Europe is what you’d like to see then we are of one mind.

The manager should have been given the resources and support to make that happen IMO.

Who could say what Jock would achieve today. It is of course irrelevant but I still wonder what would have happened if he had been Scotland manager in Mexico.

    I suspect… not Andy Roxburgh.

Interesting take on the Broonie situation… I’m going to abstain;)

    Have A Great Day…

    Hail Hail

  8. Friesdorfer

Indeed you will ! I am looking forward to tonight`s game ( and to Danny`s Cabaret on the Express !!).

    Cheerio for now,

    JJ

  9. we play a much faster , higher tempo game without sb in the team , not a first 11 selection these days.

  10. No online tickets for the away leg in Valencia

Tickets must be bought from the Mestalla and only two tickets per person, with valid Spanish identification

Do Valencia not want to make any money?
