RIORDAN AT LIVINGSTON

FORMER Celtic striker Derek Riordan will continue training with Livingston as he searches for a new team.

The 32-year-old ex-Scotland hitman has been without a club since a trial period at Brechin City ended in October.

He has trained with Mark Burchill’s first team squad at Almondvale for the last fortnight and will continue to do so this week.

Riordan – once rated the most natural marksman at Parkhead by Gordon Strachan – is keen to return to full-time football having played part-time at Alloa last year.

He quit the Clackmannanshire side at the end of the season before going on a trial with League One side Brechin. Riordan left after knocking back personal terms.

It is unclear whether Livingston see the player as a potential signing having recently had their registration embargo lifted by the SPFL.

Riordan, who won three international caps, was signed by Strachan from Hibs for a cut-price £170,000 in 2006 when he was coming to the end of his contract.

He left Parkhead two years later after failing to settle at the Glasgow giants, scoring only five goals in 24 league appearances.

The hitman rejoined the Easter Road side for a fee in the region of £400,000 before moving to Chinese Super League club Shaanxi Chan-Ba in July 2011.

He returned to Britain six months later and trained with Kilmarnock and Blackpool before agreeing a short-term deal with St.Johnstone in March. The contract wasn’t extended and he accepted a three-month offer from Bristol Rovers in September 2012.

After 11 games, he returned to Scotland and made two substitute appearances for Alloa before injuring an ankle. A three-game stint at Glebe Park followed before he quit the Angus outfit.
