Robbing Billy to pay Laxey

860

30% interest!  Nice one, Newco Rangers, you’ve got yourself a deal there.  Suggestions that your business plan has been, and remains, unsustainable and extravagant are patently absurd when you can borrow at the kind of rates a Zimbabwean pimp would get at the height of the ZWD’s recent hyper-inflation episode, although it’s probably worth noting that Zimbabwean businesses are currently borrowing at slightly less than half of what Laxey are charging Newco, solvent ones, anyway.

An administration would be a severe embarrassment to the Newco, less than two years after its incorporation, but in many ways it would be a boon, allowing the club to offload all the high earners and establish a breakeven trading platform.

It is utterly incomprehensible why they have not called in the admins, which itself shines a light on management processes inside the club.  No one seems to be asking, “What next?”  Getting deeper into hock with a hedge fund is ruinous.  Notions that if the loan is turned into shares would be a soft landing for the club are absurd.  This is a hedge fund.  A HEDGE FUND!!  The more shares they have, the more exposure they have, the higher return they will demand.

Need some new players, tough, pay my money.  Ticket sales down, that’s disappointing, cut back and pay my money.  Got some maintenance work to do, I don’t care, pay my money then see what’s left.

Keep your eye on the sale and leaseback plan, although not until September.  They should commission a brass statue of a Newco season ticket holder, touching his toes, with the motto ‘Brace yourself’ below.

The only question left is who will be the complicit front man for season ticket sales this year?

Most people are only beginning to realise the consequences of the events of 2012, or what it means to be a zombie club, walking around, not quite the same as before, with various groups randomly gorging on you.  Nothing will ever be as it was.  Ever.  They should’ve listened, before high-fiving Sir David Murray, then Craig Whyte, then Charles Green.  It’s not like we didn’t tell them.

If you’re in the football business, rule number 1 is: Pay your bills.  Every other rule, value and aspiration cannot be met without this rule.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted questions for last week’s Celtic Forum.  The minutes have been published, and are available here.

Why would sevco try to get through this season without admin when it would be a bigger risk to lose points next season..?

    —————

Yeah, that move makes very little sense.

What does make sense is that they’re getting finance in place prior to entering admin in the next few weeks if not sooner.

  3. I remember as a youngster walking along the old railway embankment back to our supporters’ bus. Someone in one of the tenements put up a picture of king billy.

Well Beeching might have ensured the lines had been taken away, but they forgot to remove the track ballast. With all that ammunition there wasn’t any windows left unbroken in that flat.

I promise I didn’t take part. My old man would have killed me.

  4. Though I enjoyed bits of our performance against Hearts, it looked to me as though we set up to be a bit more cautious, in order to achieve Fraser’s record. After the 31 minute mark, we found it difficult to switch gears as Hearts had gained confidence from not being down by that point.

Tomorrow night’s match will be one of the toughest fixtures we play against a team that has scored 3 goals in 3 games against us and only failed to score in the first Pittodrie fixture in August. It would be great to extend the clean sheet record, but not at the expense of a 0:0 outcome. I would be happier with a 2:1 win than a 0:0 outcome.

Incidentally, why are we being allowed to play on a CL night? I thought that was not encouraged.

I remember being at Celtic Park one day when it was a bit foggy (in the 50’s I think), when a train went past and spewed out so much smoke you couldn’t see the pitch and the match was interrupted.

Me and my old man used to go to the match sometimes on this train from Glasgow Cross,

and my memory is that most of the journey to Parkhead was underground, and also if you opened a window you would be almost choked with the smoke.

Was also at Shawfield with my granda, a Clyde supporter from Brigton, the day the wee boy was crushed to death. The kid was about ages with me and my old dear was adamant I wouldn’t be allowed back.

    Fortunately my da overruled her.

I do remember that after that incident the polis wouldn’t allow you to watch the game from under the barrier at the Celtic end for fear of a repeat.

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

Exactly – With hearts in the championship next season as well as the increased competition you would have thought it would be better to take the hit this season.

Can only presume the SPIVS want to get their hands on the ST monies and also to organise the monies from the sale/leaseback later this year. The championship will look after itself.

Indeed depending on how much monies they get in from the sales/leasback maybe they think they can survive till the end of next season. However with the repayments on the leaseback their definitely stuffed.

  8. Sftb,

I thought the game was a bit nervy/ defensive too. Although I’d argue they stepped it up a little in the 2nd half.

Tomorrow night will be a tough test imo, versus the last team to score against us in Both league and cup.

Regarding champs league, there are often dozens of games on , just none will be televised live.

I just think the team is still gelling. I would like to see us get some consistency in the selection from now to the end of the season and stick with the dimaond shape. Keep Biton and Johansson in the team if fit and play Griffiths and Stokes together.

Griffiths looks a cracking player for the money. He is very direct. He goes for goal. He can score from anywhere within 30 yards of goal. I think if he keeps focused we have a very decent player on our hands. He will score plenty!

14:48 on 24 February, 2014Many years ago, a railway line ran across the back of the Jock Stein Stand. Does anyone know where it ran to and from?

A partial answer. In the sixties no trains ran on it and we used the railway track to break into Connells ginger factory, and contrary to what most Fholk would think, it wasnt ginger we pinched but empty bottles to buy sweeties and pay to get into the Olympia pictures.

A few years ago Leeds went into admin. Near the end of the season they looked as though they were going to miss out on a play off place so went into admin. The FA forced them to take the points deduction the following season… I’m sure the SFA will do the same for sevco…

Tell your Da ta for that as I very vaguely remember the day , but in later years when my Da met my cousin they would discuss it and your Da’s account matches mine as my Da helped to remove the wall of the bhoys

I was nervous myself. Today would have been unbearable if the Fartz burst FF’s record. I was delighted they didn’t. 2nd half was much more comfortable and I felt we had to grind Fartz down. They played OK within themselves but once we got going we could have taken a few off them.

Hopefully we will see a more fluid performance tomorrow night. The record has been secured and our strikers are gelling. We owe Aberdeen one too. I am hoping for a good victory. Win the midfield and we should win the game. The only thing that worries me is that Biton has to work on his discpline a wee bit. He could be a danger for a red card. If Johansen is out I would put Charlie in there to protect Biton and let him play. Broonie and Mulgrew should be snapping at Robson and Flood. Stop them playing and we will be able to pull the strings and win a very hard match. Sky and BT will be frustrated this game is not live on their channel. Probably one of the games of the season.

My dad was brought up in Dalriada street just behind the old Celtic end and the railway line ran literally at the end of the back court There was a wall about 4 foot high, that as kids we would climb and look down on the pasing steam trains spouting their polluted smoke up at us. this would be about 1961-62 , although it seems like yesterday.

I assumed it got shut as part of the Beeching review, but never knew a lot about the line. So good to see the responses.

  19. Personally, I would prefer a 0-0 tomorrow night to a 2-1 win. It will mean that we get to acclaim the team on Saturday for setting a new British record, if we don’t concede after 7 minutes. I think we can afford to drop 2 points to Aberdeen at this point.

    Auldhid,

I should have acknowledged your getting to hear the Soldier’s Song. The only game I was at like that was a League of Ireland game at Celtic Park, where Charlie Tully was playing for the Irish. Can’t remember hearing any anthems being played.

  20. I think it will be as it always is up there a very very hard and tough game, Aberdeen are the second best team in the country so it won’t be easy, but as I said never is up there, we will get a result, the cup game all they had to do was mark Commoms, there is no one in there back four with the pace to get at LG, no one, so expect a lot of Hun tackles tomorrow night the MIB is Gonny be busy, trust me.

Agreed. If Izzy is back, push mulgrew up.

The thing with the champions league having this staggered coverage, means that there isn’t going to be a good domestic game shown midweek for a month.

As I said earlier, blackout for me and catch the game ‘live’ on alba.

Hit them first with the tough tackles. The players didn;t win their personal battles in the cuo match. They need to win them this time. Hopefully one of our players let them know they are in a game early tomorrow.

If Izzy isn’t 100% I wouldn’t risk him. Matthews can play LB and the lad Fisher can play RB. Charlie will be needed in the midfield.

Aberdeen seem to be a side that love a penalty. Watched their highlights last night and they love to go down. I expect them to go down at every opportunity tomorrow night. I hope our coaches have spotted that. I’m sure they have.

It was even worse than you describe with Leeds.

Ken Bates waited until half time,on the last day of a season, until he viewed how all the other results were going. He then pushed the admin button. What a cynical man.Glad him and Dirty Leeds didn’t get away with it,as the English FA had the balls to make retrospective rules.
