ROBERTS AMERICA BOUND WITH CITY THIS SUMMER

CELTIC’S hopes of extending Patrick Roberts’ loan deal could have suffered a setback.

The impressive winger, who is due to quit the champions after 18 months at the end of the season, is back on Manchester City’s radar.

Boss Pep Guardiola is planning on taking the England Under-21 international with his squad in their summer tour of the USA.

He will be given the opportunity to impress the Spaniard who has threatened changes at the club in the new campaign.

The youngster, who cost £12million when he was signed from Fulham two years ago, could be in with the chance of playing against Real Madrid and Manchester United on the pre-season trip.

Guardiola took note of Roberts when he scored against his parent club in the 1-1 Champions League draw at the Etihad in December.

Helping Roberts’ case at City is the fact that Spanish winger Jesus Navas is out of contract and expected to leave at the end of the campaign.

The exciting attacker won two Premiership titles and a League Cup with the Hoops.

He is two games away from picking up a Scottish Cup medal to complete the set.
Celtic will certainly be prepared to splash out to secure Roberts on a permanent deal or may seek as a compromise to take the player back on another season long loan.

It remains unlikely that Roberts will be a regular starter at City next season although he may well opt for the chance to force himself into their side.
