ROCK AND ROHL RANGERS-STYLE

RANGERS have been rocked by rejection from Steven Gerrard – and are now poised to turn to Danny Rohl.

The former Ibrox boss was favourite to take over from Russell Martin whose 123 days of carnage and chaos came to an abrupt halt a week ago when he was axed following a dismal 1-1 draw at Falkirk.

The stalemate left the Govan strugglers in eighth spot in the Premiership and, overall, the ex-Scotland international defender led the side to five wins in 17 games.

Martin was four months into his three-year deal when the axe fell.

SACKED AFTER 123 DAYS…the beleaguered Russell Martin.

Gerrard, 45, who lifted one honour from a possible nine in his time at the club, was flagged up as the No.1 contender to take over what has become a poisoned chalice with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale and Philippe Clement all dismissed in quickfire fashion in recent years.

Barry Ferguson was moved in to the post in a caretaker capacity after Clement’s sacking in February, but there was no chance of the one-time captain getting the position on a permanent basis.

Gerrard held talks with the American owners before he decided to withdraw from the process.

Out-of-work German Danny Rohl, 36, who left Sheffield Wednesday by “mutual consent” in July, was interviewed on Friday, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

IN WITH A SHOUT…Danny Rohl is in the running at Ibrox.

The Ibrox support is said to be gutted after the news broke that Gerrard, who was at the club between 2018 and 2021 before quitting for Aston Villa, did not want to come back.

The Liverpool legend met with Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh in London on Thursday. After taking time to weigh up the move, Gerrard informed club chiefs he didn’t want to be considered for the position.

He moved to Bahrain when he become boss of Al-Ettifaq and still lives in the Middle East.

Now the Govan misery-go-round is set for another spin.
