RODGERS 12 v RANGERS 1

BRENDAN RODGERS has emerged victorious on TWELVE occasions in his 16 derby duels.

The Celtic manager has also seen his side held on three occasions while suffering a solitary reverse.

This afternoon at Parkhead, Rodgers will lead the champions into the fourth all-Glasgow encounter of his comeback campaign which saw him denied a hat-trick of success with a stoppage-time strike at Ibrox last month interrupting the 100 per cent sequence.

PARADISE…Brendan Rodgers acknowledges the Celtic fans after the 2-1 derby win at Parkhead on December 30 2023.

Following a 1-0 triumph at Ibrox in early September, Irish eyes were smiling again just before the turn of the year after a 2-1 win at Parkhead – the prolific Kyogo Furuhashi notching the matchwinners on both occasions.

The Japanese hitman was out of luck at Ibrox last time around, but strikes from Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley (pen) and Adam Idah had the visitors 3-2 ahead until Rabbi Matondo was practically invited to shoot by a strangely hesitant Yang Hyun-jun and, unfortunately, his angled drive arrowed high past the helpless Joe Hart.

Rodgers readily admits his passion for these city confrontations – and no wonder.

He has watched his team pile on the misery with THIRTY-SEVEN goals while conceding just 11 in a stunning sequence of success.

Once the smoke of battle has cleared over the east end of the city this afternoon, hopefully the Celtic gaffer, his players and the supporters are celebrating triumph No.13.

GOVAN GLEE…Brendan Rodgers watched Celtic thump in five goals at Ibrox on April 29 2017.
