RODGERS: EX-STAR LETS RIP

FORMER Leicester City striker Stan Collymore has ripped into Brendan Rodgers following his swift departure from Parkhead.

The manager quit the champions on Tuesday to take over at the Midlands outfit with over two years remaining on his Hoops contract.

Ex-England international Collymore reckons Rodgers will eventually be sacked by the mid-table club – and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is now rated higher across Glasgow than the Irishman.

The former Liverpool star, writing in his column in today’s Sunday People, said: “The way Brendan Rodgers has treated Celtic has been poor and I’ve no idea why he didn’t just wait to join Leicester City at the end of the season.

“He’d have departed as a manager revered alongside all the club greats like Jock Stein and with few Hoops fans begrudging him a new challenge after winning the treble treble.

“As it stands, though, Steven Gerrard has more respect at Celtic Park than Rodgers.

“I just don’t know what Rodgers is going to learn about his Leicester squad that he couldn’t have learned from afar.

“In the next two or three years, he’ll more than likely get sacked by Leicester – that’s just a football fact.

“And my fear is he will wish he’d dealt with the situation differently.”

Collymore, 48, who also numbers Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Real Oviedo among his former clubs, was once a target for ex-Hoops boss Liam Brady.

The Republic of Ireland legend, who replaced Billy McNeill as manager in 1991, watched the frontman, capped three times by his country, when he was at Southend in 1992.

But Forest snapped him up in a £2million deal the following season before he moved to Anfield two years afterwards for a-then British record fee of £8.5million.
