RODGERS EXPLAINS KEEPER ROLE

SCOTT BAIN will play his third successive game for Celtic against Hamilton Accies at Parkhead this afternoon.

The Hoops understudy has kept clean sheets in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Airdrie a week ago and the 4-0 Premiership triumph over St Mirren in midweek.

Craig Gordon, who was a Man of the Match candidate in the loss at Ibrox before the turn of the year, has been on the substitutes’ bench on both occasions.

Brendan Rodgers will again trust the gloves to Bain, who agreed a permanent deal in the summer after an impressive six-moth loan deal from Dundee, against Martin Canning’s outfit and said: “I spoke to Craig. That’s respect.

“We talked at length and I will always communicate with my players. It always stabilises any emotion and what they think.

“I was clear with Craig on what I was doing. I said last week that I have a set of goalkeepers who can all play very well.

“The profile of keeper means that he has to be able to work with his feet.

“That’s our game. We aren’t 10 players and a goalkeeper when we have the ball. We are 11 players. Scott keeps the game moving for us and can stop goals as well.

“He and Craig are very good, and we also have Conor Hazard and Ross Doohan at Partick Thistle and Ayr United.”

Meanwhile, £10million French striker Odsonne Edouard is back in full training while fans’ favourite Kieran Tierney is on course for a first team return next month.

Rodgers added: “Odsonne is back training and is ramping up his football fitness. He looks better every day.

“Kieran’s target time is the start of February. He is feeling better and hopefully we get him back.”
