BRENDAN RODGERS has explained Charlie Mulgrew’s appearance at training with the Celtic first team today.
However, the Irishman appeared to scupper any likelihood of the Scotland international defender being given a fresh offer from the Hoops.
The arrival of Kolo Toure and emergence of Eoghan O’Connell look to have closed the doors on a new deal for Mulgrew.
The Celtic boss said: “I don’t know Charlie that well, but what I do know is he was a good servant to the club.
“His contract was up, he was looking to negotiate with the club and unfortunately those negotiations stalled.
“He’s without a club and he asked if he could come in and train for a few weeks until something happened further down the line.
“By all accounts, he’s a good guy, and from speaking to him a few times, he’s a guy who wants to work and train well
“I have no problem in helping out good people like him.”
