SCOTT SINCLAIR has become Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers’ third signing for the champions.
It is understood Sinclair is undergoing a medical in Glasgow today ahead of a move to the Parkhead side.
The winger or midfielder joins from Aston Villa and has been one of Rodgers’ top targets for the summer window and joins Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure as new signings.
The deal was held up as the Midlands side refused to budge on their asking price and the Hoops had a reported four bids rejected, the last around the £2.75million mark – £250,000 more than Villa paid for the 27-year-old a year ago.
But new Villa gaffer Roberto Di Matteo relented after splashing £14million on Scottish international striker Ross McCormack from Fulham.
Sinclair played under Rodgers at Swansea and enjoyed the best spell of his career at the Liberty Stadium, scoring 36 goals in 91 games for Welsh club.
Earlier in the day Rodgers joked: “There’s no smoke without fire and there’s been a lot of smoke.
“Scott’s a player I know well. I would really hope to sign a player before the weekend.”
After Hearts, the Hoops face Motherwell in the League Cup on Wednesday and their next competitive match will be seven days later against Israel’s Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the first leg of the play-off round of the Champions League.
With Patrick Roberts facing up to three weeks out with a hamstring problem, Rodgers is keen to land Sinclair, who moved to Villa from Manchester City last summer in a £2.5million four-year contract.
The Parkhead gaffer added: “The squad will be better and stronger by the time we arrive at the next European games.
“We’d like to get in at least one new player before the deadline.”
Roberts was withdrawn after half-an-hour during the 2-1 win over Astana in midweek, with Rodgers saying the on-loan Manchester City player was “a risk” for the matches against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
The Irishman added: “He could miss the next two to three weeks. I’m disappointed for him since he was as at really good level of fitness and operating at a high level.”

Out-of-contract Charlie Mulgrew was involved in first team training at Lennoxtown today, but Rodgers revealed he was just helping out.
The versatile 31-year-old defender is still interesting Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
