Rodgers interview is just noise

302

Can everyone just calm their jets on the notion that Brendan Rodgers, or anyone else for that matter, is in prime position for the manager’s job?

I’ve seen these appointments at close quarters for a long time.  An interview is often little more than a courtesy.  Remember years ago, the ex-Juventus boss, a disaster in Turin, never taken seriously in Glasgow, but he had an influential agent that Celtic wanted to get closer to?

There was also an ex-Celtic player who applied. Everyone know he was a hopeless manager, but still, am ex-player deserved a little courtesy.  He was interviewed, then politely told they were going in a different direction.

Brendan was a winning Celtic manager. If, as reported, he was interviewed, you’d better believe he has invested some capital in even being considered. The way he behaved at Liverpool, then Celtic, and his lack of structural legacy at both these clubs and at Leicester, means Brendan has a bit of a reputational challenge going forward. Even being considered by Celtic would do him good.

I don’t see it going any further than this, though.  We’ve seen what an actual great manager can do. One that leaves a legacy of a valuable squad.  One that never considered short-term loans as part of his modus operandi. A team player in every sense.

We have had an elite operator for two years. The difference to what went before is stark.

I know that in 2019 we didn’t as much appoint Neil Lennon as end up with him after an unfruitful search. So, if we’re reading the signs, there’s a chance we’ll end up with a breaker, not a builder.

I’m reading the signs and I just can’t see Brendan Rodgers getting this gig.  His interview is just noise, it’s not the sound you should be paying attention to.

One can only Imagine if we hadn’t won an unparalleled trophy haul. Imagine if we were sat in 1965 looking back at the prior 25 years. Or even in 2000. Imagine if we were where the new govan franchise is now.”

In the park with an unparalleled, blue bag full of bragging rights.

“Going for fifty bags!” is the motto. Tesco beware

  2. `Lawwell wanted rid of Brendan. Brendan was getting too big for his boots. `

We seem to have quite a few posters on here who have access to the going on in the Boardroom at Celtic Park.

PS The ebove is just one example and by no means the worst of the posts of which I speak.

    BR didn’t sign Moussa.

His transfer was agreed and signed while Ronny was manager and Moussa then joined up with us at the start of Brendan’s first season.

  4. In terms of our recruitment vs press speculation

    Never saw coming :

    Postecoglou

    Rodgers

    Strachan

    Barnes

    Hay

    Brady

    Deila

    Venglos

    The expected ones

    O’Neill was touted

    As was Mowbray

    McNeill obvious

    Burns obvious

    Macari fairly obvious

  5. Deila did a great job in the first team and the lower grades in Lennoxtown

Senior players fooked him; Commons publicly but i think Brown isn’t blameless as captain.

That’s why Rodgers took him to dinner in London to join the plan or feck off

    Proper manager

    Correct.

Brown got the opportunity to get with the programme and took it.

Stokes, Commons and Mulgrew got the bum’s rush from BR.

Venglos was a fine coach. Ahead of his time in England and given time could’ve been a success at Celtic. However, I’m happy with the way things tuned out after.

    Agree massively

It’s a lesson that the board need to learn

Don’t bring in manager who has no rep and “status” and is meek

Without them being an animal on discipline and shape

I believe ange was a no name

Once he spoke the players bought in (and were terrified)

With deila am sure they thought – who is this guy, get ths too feck

  9. If BR takes the job, will Paul continue his crusade against him? Over the years there can be no question that PL has given Paul his view on matters. But briefing against a candidate who DD looks to be interested in (at a minimum) is a strange stance to take.

  10. MARKIEBHOY on 12TH JUNE 2023 6:10 PM

Rodgers record in the Champions League played 18 won 2

    Move on

    ————

Might be wrong but I think he only managed 12 matches in champions league. Getting there in year 1 was miraculous.

P.s Ange record in Champions league, played 6 won 0. Also got in by default on back of sticky buns good Europa League results.

  12. How do you get rid of a successful and popular manager and make sure he gets the blame?

My take on Paul67’s leader, and again I aint talked to him and wont for a week atleast

Who is in couple hours flying distance that has the same agent???

    Or something similar

In the last 10 years Celtic has always been good disguising their transfers

No one in the media had a clue till it was announced

I believe this one will be the same……

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Think Brendan went 0-3-3 in his first campaign (Man City, Salzburg, Leipzig perhaps?)

… then 1-0-5 (PSG, Bayern, Anderlecht).

So 6 points in 12 games (0.5 PPG)

Ange went 0-2-4? So 0.33 PPG?

    Not much in it.

BTW – Celtic qualified for the CL due to the cumulative performances of Scottish clubs incl. Sevco

(Prior to Slippy’s arrival we did all the heavy lifting ourselves).

Suggestions we got rich off the back of their efforts I’d expect to find on non Celtic blogs?

  15. The idea of football clubs planning for the long term is great but that is something that must exist in the background and should easily align with a good manager/ coach who has a system that fits the club.

Celtics style of football is and has been for many years expansive and open. The infustructure, coaches, analytics, scouts etc need to be aligned to that type of approach. The academy needs to follow that approach also.

We need the best people we can get at the club, if celtic can get Rodgers and he is better than the rest, then get him signed up. If not get the next best candidate.

Every good manager and player etc will likely attract interest and go when a good offer comes, if we hold that against them we may as well no bother. For the record I was pissed off when Rodgers left but he left us in a great position to win the remaining trophies, he can’t be held accountable for what happened thereafter.

  16. 2 years under Ange has given me so much joy watching an all out attack team – probably the most exciting team after the lions , in terms of attack, attitude and goals.

BUT i always seen weaknesses – teams in scotland had many chances against our “defense” and usually failed to convert. Even recent rangers games, Sakala missing 2-3 sitters amongst others.

I mentioned to a friend that if CCV had been injured mid season we could easily have lost the league – he was crucial and we were rotten at the back without him for the run in.

As much as greg taylor has improved EVERY team we played targeted our left back area – its small, its weak and we conceded many crosses into our box from that area. When exposed 1-1 , taylor was in knots.

Spurs will be exciting but will be interesting to see if their exposed defense gets punished like we did in Europe.

3-5-2 OR 4-4-2 for me – with physical center back and left back needed. Defenders who defend as priority please .

Ange did great but i doubt he would have made impact in europe with that style.

    https://celtsarehere.com/private-flight-from-mallorca-to-london-brendan-rodgers-celtic-latest/

In an intriguing development we believe Brendan Rodgers, was on a private flight that we have tracked from Mallorca to London on Monday afternoon.

This news follows hot on the heels of Stephen McGowan’s report that Michael Nicholson, Celtic’s chief executive, had met with Rodgers in Mallorca.

The positive outcome of these initial discussions appears to have precipitated this next phase of negotiations. A trip to Dermot Desmond’s digs?

Rodgers’ potential return to Celtic Park comes on the heels of Ange Postecoglou’s departure after a successful treble-winning campaign.

However, Rodgers’ potential return isn’t without its caveats. While the current Celtic squad brims with talent that could benefit from his coaching, fans are still wary of his recruitment policies, and most importantly, the question of loyalty.

The Irishman’s abrupt departure to Leicester left a sour taste in many mouths, and it remains to be seen how this will play out if he does indeed return.

In spite of these reservations, the Celtic faithful will back whatever person comes in to take the job.

  18. Italian journalists claims Maresca would rather wait for an EPL job. With his CV, he’s deluded if that’s true.

  19. BR had six games in the CL as Liverpool manager as well as 12 with us and he was pretty pants there as well. I think he will get the gig but I’ll be surprised if our European form gets any better sadly☹️

Among the angst of appointing our new manager, at least we have a ready made toon for our new Norwegian signing. Step up Johnny Mathis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOHN_39jwr0

    “He’s Odin Holm…

    Odin Holm….

Send someone to meet him, he’s Odin Holm”

Guess it’s OK to sign players without a manager in place, if the player looks to have good on-trade value.
