RODGERS’ REMARKABLE RECORD

1

BRENDAN RODGERS has already won more silverware in 18 months than TEN previous managers achieved in their Celtic careers.

The Northern Irishman lifted his fourth successive trophy when the Hoops overcame Motherwell 2-0 in the Betfred League Cup Final at the weekend.

Rodgers’ first triumph came in the same competition last season when the Parkhead side beat Aberdeen 3-0 for the club’s 100th tournament success in their 129 years.

He followed that up with a Premiership title and a Scottish Cup, beating the Dons again 2-1 with a stoppage time goal from Tom Rogic.

The weekend Hampden victory over the Fir Park outfit stretched the Invincibles’ record UK unbeaten domestic sequence to a remarkable 65. It is now 66 after last night’s 1-1 draw at Fir Park.

Rodgers’ men are favourites to win their seventh successive championship and already lead the table by three points from Derek McInnes’ Pittodrie team with a game in hand.

They kick off the defence of their Scottish Cup against Brechin City on January 20 at Parkhead.

The former Liverpool chief has now been more successful than predecessors Jimmy McStay, Davie Hay, Liam Brady, Lou Macari, Tommy Burns, Wim Jansen, Jozef Venglos, John Barnes, Tony Mowbray and Ronny Deila.

Over a period of 21 seasons, those managers triumphed in a mere total of eight trophies with six failing to win any silverware.

Rodgers also tops club legend Billy McNeill’s second period in charge when he won a league and two Scottish Cups in a four-year spell.
