‘RODGERS UNDER NO PRESSURE TO SELL,’ INSISTS DESMOND

CELTIC majority shareholder Dermot Desmond insists Brendan Rodgers is under no pressure to sell Moussa Dembele or anyone else in his squad.

The Irish billionaire added that no decision on players will be made until after Champions League qualification.

The Hoops enjoyed a breathtaking record-breaking term under Rodgers last season, winning a domestic treble for the fourth time in the club’s history and going through the entire campaign unbeaten.

Desmond said: “We’re conscious of maintaining the core of the team.

“Naturally some players will move on and some will come in, that’s the way that demand is for players and the salaries that they get.

“But we’ll endeavour to maintain the nucleus of the team for the year.

“We don’t have to sell any player. First of all, it will be the club, the player and the manager who will decide that.

“We will make no decisions until the end of our Champions League qualification programme.”

The treble-winners face Northern Irish club Linfield in the second qualifying round of the Champions League 14 in Belfast a week tomorrow and July 19 in Glasgow.
