BRENDAN RODGERS has given an update on fringe defender Stephen Welsh’s impending short-term loan switch to KV Mechelen.
As the 24-year-old centre-back gets ready for the move to Belgium, youngster Dane Murray has been recalled from his temporary switch to Queen’s Park, as CQN forecast last month.
The Celtic boss, who is preparing his squad for the visit of Dundee United on league business to Parkhead tomorrow night, said: “There are a few little bits and pieces going on in the background with both ins and outs, but nothing to declare as of yet.
“Stephen has been pretty much part of the fabric at this club for so many years – he’s one of the guys who helps create the culture.
“But there also comes a time when they need to look at their own career. So, there’s a possibility that he’ll go out on loan. It’s not confirmed yet.
“But for him to go out and Dane to come back is quite an easy transition.”
GREEN FOR GO…Dane Murray is back at Celtic after his loan move to Queen’s Park.
Rodgers, speaking to Sky Sports, added: “We’ve brought Dane back for that purpose. He’s a young player I really think highly of.
“We sent him to Queen’s Park where he’s trained every day and been really well coached at a fantastic club. The whole idea then was to bring him back.”
Twenty-one-year-old Murray made his first appearance for the Hoops in Ange Postecoglou’s opening match against FC Midtjylland in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier at Parkhead in July 2021.
The teenager was sent on to take the place of Nir Bitton who had been red-carded just before the interval. Liel Abada, who had scored Celtic’s goal in the 1-1 draw, made way for the debutant.
Murray also played in the second leg where the Hoops crashed out of the tournament in extra-time in a 2-1 loss.
Now he is ready to go again – after a three-and-a-half year interlude!
