ROGIC AND MULGREW ARE PRIORITIES

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila is hoping to persuade Tom Rogic and Charlie Mulgrew to accept contract extensions in the near future.

The international double-act have yet to agree new terms, but their recent form has highlighted how much they are worth to the SPFL champions.

Australian Rogic’s spectacular last-gasp winner against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park brought in three more crucial points in the quest for the club’s fifth successive title.

And the versatile Mulgrew, who played in the second-half of Scotland’s 1-0 win over Denmark in midweek, has a pivotal role in the back-four alongside Erik Sviatchenko after Jozo Simunovic was ruled out for the run-in to the campaign.

Both could face Hearts at Parkhead this afternoon and Deila said: “When Tom is at it, as he is just now, he is a top player.

“The message is clear that he is a player we want to sign. He wants to stay as well, so, hopefully, this is something that should happen quite soon.

“I’ve always said that Charlie is great. He has played a lot of games in these two weeks and that’s good. He’s getting better and looking sharper.

“Both parties are thinking about it although it’s important now to concentrate on the games.”

Croatian Under-21 international Simunovic, bought from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer for £5million, is fighting to be ready for next season’s European qualifiers after knee surgery, but Deila insisted the remainder of the troops are ready to reach out and grab prizes.

He said: “We know everything is in our hands. It’s a good feeling to have.”
