Tom Rogic is good. Very good. He has scored cup winning goals, league winning goals, scored against Newco at three different venues, and most deliciously, has scored Champions League qualification goals. That old football adage, “Yes, but can he do it when it really matters?”, is never asked about Tom.
With one year left on his existing Celtic contract, he is off with Australia to the World Cup, the most prominent shop window in the game, where good players with a one-year balance on their contracts are a premium.
The news that he signed a five-year contract yesterday has surprised many, including me. One week ago today, when I asked a ‘senior source at Celtic’ the prospects or retaining his services, I was not encouraged. “The money on offer in England……..”
This deal is an endorsement of the direction the club is heading from within the dressing room. Players know where the club is going, Tom knows. That’s why he has signed. I am sure his contract reflects his ability, but I am also sure he could have earned more elsewhere. And five years!! That’s nearly a Jim McLean!
Good luck tomorrow, Tom, let’s have a repeat of last season’s Cup Final.

Agree Ziggydoc1
Yep – hadn’t really thought about it but even though he’s obviously happen with the club and feels Brendan can further improve him, I’d imagine he’ll be the highest paid player – maybe same as Broony.
*happy
Delighted that Rogic is staying.
A “get of yer seat for” player
A “crowd puller “of a player
A magician of a player who does more tricks in 90 minutes on stage than Tommy Cooper did jokes.
Just like that
Not like that
Like that

Should you and yer brother no be working!?

The Tully Bros have elastic lunch breaks!
I know, because I was the happy recipient of one of them last week.
Now that Tom Rogic has that fine contract in his back pocket, I am looking forward to more Riquelmesque performances from him.

That is a brilliant, incisive point VFR!
Celtic is looking to its own future regardless of the considerations of others. Winning tomorrow is important because it’s a trophy; that it’s the sixth trophy in a row is of secondary importance. It’s a sign of progress. Winning ten in a row is not Celtic’s goal, progress is Celtic’s goal. What is brilliant about that progress though is that it just may have this great big giant jewel of achievement that is TEN IN A ROW!
Tomorrow is going to be a glorious!

Tom Rogic is a class player and it’s a fantastic piece of business.
However just because Tom sometimes plays 90 minutes doesn’t mean he performs to his optimum for 90 minutes.
We have all seen Tom fade after approximately 60 minutes game time. I wish it wasn’t the case and possibly going forward this may improve. But in my opinion it is the reality at this time.

=============================================
Yup. Exactly.
His skill and guile come from his energy reserves keeping him at maximum sharpness. Given his particular physical makeup, effectiveness usually lasts about an hour.
But it’s a great hour when he clicks – absolutely lethal languid style that lures opponents into a false sense of security, with great class in those feet.
Delighted he chose to stay where there’s a manager who knows precisely how to utilise his talents.
As for a song, keep it simple…

Rogic,
Kick
Kick,
Huns,
Huns,
Sick,
Sick”

Another high school shooting in US. This one about 20 miles from me. So sad, and still no action on gun law.

Indeed, then the stupid attention seeking girl who attends her High School Prom with an AR15 over her shoulder.
Media couldn’t wait to get her on screen.
Doh!
Due to late change to family arrangements on Sunday now have two tickets for Broonys game available for a good home. Easiest pick up would be East Kilbride area. No cash needed.

Bit of lip from young AlbertKidd there which is surprising since I’m holding his cup final ticket and therefore all the power.
You mentioned the Riquelme/Rogic comparison during that very extended lunch last week!
Paul Lambert has been sacked by Stoke- queue Moyes or big Sam – they must be kicking themselves they missed SG

Yep!! Shocking.Becoming a more regular occurrence. A large “sports”outlet nearby here has a huge sign on the freeway advertising that they are the largest stocked gun store in Texas. Car park is always full.
Had a walk through it one day, enough readily available weaponry in there for almost anyone to purchase.

Shocking the amount of firepower available in the US.
Over here,a sensible boot in the baws is plenty. A seven iron when needed.
I don’t view those points as facetious btw. Everyone on the receiving end of a boot in the baws or a seven iron will know why they got it.
There’s not too many who get hit in mass shootings do.
The tories canny devolve Brexit powers to Scotland, because they fear what Sinn Fein might do in a future NI Assembly ????
Who’s paranoid noo ?

BMCUWP Sooooooo funny, true and sad that these shootings are still happening.

Tully57,
You Albert Kidd fella is on shaky ground there!
“You mentioned the Riquelme/Rogic comparison during that very extended lunch last week!”

I did. Either I am a very astute observer of football and see things that mere mortals miss.
OR
I am an idiot who doesn’t know the first thing about the game!
Hmmm, It’s hard to know which. : > )
ENGLISH game is mad
Earlier in week we had Big Sam and Moyes mutually consented
Today Lambert and Swansea manager part company
AND Newcastle apparently spent £110 M on wages last season
in championship to get UP. !!!!
Sound like FFP doesn’t work down there either
Lionsroar67,
If you’re looking in, I hope your recovery is continuing, and you are managing to get some sleep.
If you get a chance to watch the game tomorrow, remember last years final, and the remarkable recovery you made to be able to watch, and take strength from that.

A wee quiz question, since the blog is quiet.
Over 250 players have gone on to lift the English Premier League trophy since the competition started in 1992/93.
Only 4 have been Scots, name them.
Hail Hail
Having to totally change my plans for the game last minute! Where is good to catch the game in Edinburgh, close to Waverley Station/St Andrew Square?
Same question for our Irish folks.
7 players.
5 played for Ireland, two for N.Ireland.
Hail Hail
Jimmynotaul, Choccy andDarren Fletcher for Man Who
Irish player , John O’Shea for Man Who Possibly Shay Given at Blackburn
Colin Hendry for Blackburn another Scot
Kevin Gallacher?
Darren Ferguson?
Dallas.
Yes that’s three of the four Scots.
John Oshea correct too. Shay Given incorrect.
The other Scot, I would never gave guessed, he was only capped at u/21. level.
Hail Hail
Bada.
Well done.
Darren Ferguson is the 4th Scot.
Hail Hail
Johnny Evans at Man Who
Darren Ferguson was on the books ay Old Trafford for a while .
Did Johnny Evans’ brother, Corry get a league medal , he was on United’s books for a while
Dallas.
Yes Johnny Evans is one of the two from N.I.
Not Corey.
Hail Hail
I caught a bit of Channel 4 news last night . They were talking about an interesting development in the north of Ireland. As Theresa May struggles to come up with a solution to the border apparently some loyalists have been holding discreet talks with Dublin – on the possibility of – a united Ireland !!!
So 4 Scots are
Brian McClair
Darren Fletcher
Darren Ferguson
Colin Hendry
