Rogic endorsement of direction of travel

538

Tom Rogic is good.  Very good.  He has scored cup winning goals, league winning goals, scored against Newco at three different venues, and most deliciously, has scored Champions League qualification goals.  That old football adage, “Yes, but can he do it when it really matters?”, is never asked about Tom.

With one year left on his existing Celtic contract, he is off with Australia to the World Cup, the most prominent shop window in the game, where good players with a one-year balance on their contracts are a premium.

The news that he signed a five-year contract yesterday has surprised many, including me.  One week ago today, when I asked a ‘senior source at Celtic’ the prospects or retaining his services, I was not encouraged.  “The money on offer in England……..”

This deal is an endorsement of the direction the club is heading from within the dressing room.  Players know where the club is going, Tom knows.  That’s why he has signed.  I am sure his contract reflects his ability, but I am also sure he could have earned more elsewhere.  And five years!!  That’s nearly a Jim McLean!

Good luck tomorrow, Tom, let’s have a repeat of last season’s Cup Final.

Roy, I looked forward more to our games against Aberdeen between 1981 to 1986 than our matches against the now defunct club.

They had Miller reffing the game , Rougvie Simpson , Cooper and Dougie Bell kicking our players plus Hewitt, McGhee and Black going in with elbows and raised arms .

Graeme Sinclair was not a popular figure with some of our support but when Sinky played in midfield against them, Cooper and Simpson in particular , they got back what they dished out.

  4. Anyway, fitba’. I am looking forward to the game tomorrow and I fully expect a physical game but we should still be too good for them. I expect Kouassi to be on the bench and called on if needed to sort a few out.

Moussa to batter their defence. Brown and Ntcham to dominate the middle. Big Dedryck to turn in a performance that will keep Main quiet. Big Tam Rogic to pull the strings.

Only downside is that my mate will miss the game. He fell from a scaffold yesterday and ended up with a broken elbow, fractured pelvis, 3 cracked vertebrae and 3 cracked ribs. His main concern is missing the game. His son is happy enough as he gets the spare ticket!

Parkhead was a railway station in the east end of Glasgow. It was opened as Parkhead, by the North British Railway on 1 February 1871.[1] It was renamed Parkhead North on 30 June 1952 by British Railways.[1] This was to differentiate it from the nearby ex-Caledonian Railway Parkhead station on the former Glasgow Central Railway.

  12. I fully understand the issues re anti-social behaviour and poor parking on match days and there is a case to answer there. However I’ve seen the police operation of dispersal at matches deteriorate from a slick operation when lights were turned off etc and points men/women utilised along the length of London Rd. to a who gives an f attitude. Along with the ill-thought out parking restrictions it smacks of trying to annoy and frustrate the Celtic support into non-attendance.

This comes from someone who tried to negotiate with Parkhead Forge management, Council, Police etc in several meetings about a parking scheme for supporters to allow them to use the thousands of parking spaces at the forge during match days. Many of our supporters utilised McDonalds and the shops at the Forge but they didn’t want us in there.

We bring millions to the Glasgow economy but are still treated like criminals.

Birthday cake for the youngest grand daughter, a roving lunch situation, then TV for those who wish to witness history being made.

Was out last night with a guy who’s nephew works for Celtic in Lennoxtown. Told me first of all that Craig Gordon was already fit, then told me about how focused on this game Brendan had been since the Monday after the Sevco humping, two intervening league games not withstanding.
