ROGIC IN AUSSIE RETURN

TOM ROGIC has been given a World Cup call-up by Australia following his new lease of life since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

The Hoops midfielder has been named in a 27-man squad by coach Graham Arnold to face China and Vietnam in the opening matches of the third round of qualifying for the tournament.

It’s the first time since 2019 Rogic has been involved with the international squad and he also missed June’s qualifiers in Kuwait.

The 26-year-old midfielder was given time by Arnold to overcome an ankle problem and his recent form indicates he is fit for the rigours of two crucial World Cup-ties.

Also making a comeback is China-based striker Aaron Mooy who was also linked with Postecoglou and a possible switch to Celtic in June.

Goalkeeper Maty Ryan, another who was mentioned with a Parkhead move before he agreed a deal with Real Sociedad, is also in the pool although he has been hampered by a knee injury at the start of the Spanish league season.

Former on-loan Celt Daniel Arzani is also in the squad after his solid Olympic campaign as he pushes for a first Socceroos appearance since 2018, according to a report in the West Australian.

The squad will assemble over the next two days in Qatar before the clash with China in Doha on Thursday. The away trip to face Vietnam in Hanoi takes place on September 7.
