Rogic on a road well travelled, Ciftci’s mark

389

I’ve been slow to catch onto the Tom Rogic bandwagon but his performance yesterday marks a new level of attainment. After some fleeting appearances in the months following his arrival at the club as a 20-year-old, Rogic dropped off the radar. A loan return to Australia and a number of injuries meant he went close to two years without playing for Celtic before his return to the team last month. I’d written him off, and when the teams were announced to face Dundee, I was a bit disappointed to see him in the team ahead of Scott Allan.

Yesterday was like a light being switched on. He demonstrated speed, skill, intelligence and finishing. If we had acquired him for a lot of money last month, I’d be delighted at what was on show.

All of this happened, of course, against a poorly organised Dundee team. Far greater challenges lie ahead, but just like the transformation in Nir Bitton a year ago, or the gains Wanyama made in 2012, we can hope to transform Rogic from a lost-looking squad player into a top performer.

I think we were all delighted Nadir Ciftci got off the mark. Being clean through on the keeper puts the burden of onus on the striker. A significant percentage of such chances are lost, but Nadir’s finish was assured. Like all strikers, he needed that first goal, and I suspect needed the assist he gained a moment earlier when setting Scott Brown up for the fifth.

More game-time and more goals are now needed, starting with Raith Rovers in the League Cup (ouch) on Wednesday.

    I agree.

It would be my particular preference that no person standing for any government election anywhere in the world be allowed to profess any religious beliefs. Ideally they wouldn’t hold any such beliefs either.

That’s simply not possible in the US. Indeed, if one wants to be elected, they must profess a belief in the Jesus god, whether they believe in it or not.

Can anyone tell me exactly what is ‘THE AMERICAN WAY.

It appears that Dirty Dave has added a new meaning to the expression ‘PORKIN’.

One thing for sure. That little piggy was hardly Kosher after he had been near it.

It’s being said that he had some kind of interaction with a pigs head involving his nethers.

Perhaps though the part of this story that people should be concentrating on is that Lord Ashcroft (who has told the tale) is feeling aggrieved that after making a large donation to the Tories, he did not get the Govt post he was expecting.

Best not to know. Had he been a butcher and not Prime Minister it could be said his sausage was a link to a pigs head through its eating orifice.

I think the pig may have been dead at the time but don’t know if that makes it better or worse.

The initiation activity involved the head of a dead pig.

Not sure. I heard he was spending the day considering new actors for his biopic after Jon Hamm was dropped from the lead role.

With “tricky dicky” Cameron being castigated for his preference for “porc”, the SMSM are sighing in relief that they choose “agneau”… and the ludge continue unabashed with the traditional “chevre”…

Incredibly, most of the BBC Scotland fitba site today is about Sevco manager, players and ex-players (English’s “in-depth” interview with Ladrup is now reaching the centre of the earth and still taking up a hellava lot of space to the detriment of the 12 authentic clubs in the Scottish Premiership and all the other authentic clubs in the lower leagues …).

Or maybe I was rerouted on to the Sevco site by mistake… ?

Anybody would think that Aberdeen, Celtic and the exploits of the other authentic clubs was a side show.

Is the BBC still banned from down Govan way?

They have a queer way of reacting to their exclusion.

    Rule Brittania indeed !!

  13. Good to see one Aussie part of a winning team.

My view is that TR is the real deal but for various — mainly injury related — reasons his progress has stalled since he joined us.

Great to see him get the game time and the goals.

Long way to go as I think he has only started to show the talent that he has.

Always interesting to hear the comments of the AUS NT coaching team.

They never seemed to give him up even when he was struggling.

Only issue now would seem to be the formation / position?

Straight SJ replacement as the CF support / AM?

Or does he play alongside NB and push SB into the headless chicken position playing slightly in front of them?

And then there is SA (II) situation — it would be good to see him getting on from the start with proper support around him.

If the rumours about Cameron are malicious .. Surely he’d sow Ashcroft ..

He’s going to be taking roasting for it until the end of his term in office ..

Quite ironic he’s hosting the Danish PM at No 10 tonight :)

  15. Cameron has been bringing home the bacon it seems. Still not to worry for the electorate and those no voters, those days are over, he’s cured, apparently.

Normal behaviour apparently if you’re a rich kid, and privileged enough to attend Oxbridge.

Still when Cameron renews trident and invades Syria, then Iran, it’ll be the poor sods who’ll die like lambs. Cameron won’t be choosy though, he’s probably selecting the best cuts right now.

Great article Paul. Enjoyed yesterday immensely. Decent crowd too. Only fair to point out that I have been critical of James Forrest in the past for his lack of nous and heart. Yesterday was one of his best games for Celtic.

Not everything came off but his effort and determination was superb.

One tiny moan. Ciftci should have been handed the penalty. At that time he needed a goal more than Izzy needed a hat trick.

Its totally acceptable for the crowd to get carried away. That mgmt team should do better.

    Hail hail

There’s an excellent book by Antony Flew, one time leading member of your faith. Title – “There is a God.” Definitely food for thought.

  20. You have to hand it to Cameron, he’s managed to offend Jews and Muslims at the same time. It’s not just Al Qaeda and IS we have to worry about now. Thanks Dave!

  21. Just oor luck, I think Tom Rogic is free to speak to other clubs in January. Izzy added to the entertainment yesterday. Would have brought the house down had he scored the pen.
