Rogic on a road well travelled, Ciftci’s mark

389

I’ve been slow to catch onto the Tom Rogic bandwagon but his performance yesterday marks a new level of attainment. After some fleeting appearances in the months following his arrival at the club as a 20-year-old, Rogic dropped off the radar. A loan return to Australia and a number of injuries meant he went close to two years without playing for Celtic before his return to the team last month. I’d written him off, and when the teams were announced to face Dundee, I was a bit disappointed to see him in the team ahead of Scott Allan.

Yesterday was like a light being switched on. He demonstrated speed, skill, intelligence and finishing. If we had acquired him for a lot of money last month, I’d be delighted at what was on show.

All of this happened, of course, against a poorly organised Dundee team. Far greater challenges lie ahead, but just like the transformation in Nir Bitton a year ago, or the gains Wanyama made in 2012, we can hope to transform Rogic from a lost-looking squad player into a top performer.

I think we were all delighted Nadir Ciftci got off the mark. Being clean through on the keeper puts the burden of onus on the striker. A significant percentage of such chances are lost, but Nadir’s finish was assured. Like all strikers, he needed that first goal, and I suspect needed the assist he gained a moment earlier when setting Scott Brown up for the fifth.

More game-time and more goals are now needed, starting with Raith Rovers in the League Cup (ouch) on Wednesday.

It is a matter of public record that he has been spotted many times in the company of Rebecca Wade and an Ex Metropolitan police horse.

My question on this would be who was riding who?

After today’s revelations the answer could be more digusting than I thought.

  8. Fairly enjoyed yesterday’s game and result (goals from; defence, midfield and strikers) – a repeat prescription for the rest of the season (same dose twice a week till end of May) would be welcome.

Izzy? Pity he didn’t get the hat-trick – would’ve been one of those ‘were you there moments’ in later years (like big George C waltzing round ham & eggs – Lubo & Henrik chips etc., etc). Great wee guy looks to the heavens when he comes on the park – pity his pen and most of his crosses end up in that general direction. :-)

I forgive him his penalty miss – unlike that wee shoite Messi (I had Barca @-3 and his miss cost me a ton)!

Lennon’s passion, how much longer left on Mikael Lustig contract ?

Not 100% on Mikael over 2 years minimum. Only 3 first team squad contract is up in the summer. Borrigetor,Mulgrew and Forrest. Sick note will move on. Would imagine the other 2 would be offered new deals. IMO Charlie will be reduced rate. Forrest I would punt in January.

“Cameron could marry a pig for all it matters – his opponent is hapless and in la la land.”

Interesting El Capitano, very interesting. Which opponent?

Do you remember we had a little exchange of comments t’uther day, I mentioned that Mr Corbyn may not be a threat as PM, but he may bring a different perspective and shake up British politics a bit.

Well, you see, they’ve been rumours about this book for years, it wasn’t a matter of if it would be published, more of matter, when.

So of course Mr Cameron’s other opponent – you know, the ruthless Billionaire one – yeah, that guy.

He can’t believe his luck, how do you publish such a book without looking like a traitor to the Party?

Then comes along the unelectable MrCorbyn, just weeks before the Conservative Party Conference.

Excellent – the Tory’s have no opposition to speak of, so publish and be damned! Maximum pain for David Cameron, minimum consequences for the Tory Party.

The Corbyster’s policies are rehashed failures. They remind me of our Derk: in theory they look good, in reality they leave economic mess and seething resentment.

There is more chance of me becoming a George Clooney double than there is of Jezza becoming PM.

Not a great fan of JC but at least he is fighting back against the Neo Con austerity nonsense.

He is not afraid to put the blame where it belongs with the bankers and the idle Yanks who in 2004 had nothing left to sell but their debt.

  21. Evening Timland from a warm hun fee mountain valley.

The torys are shit scared of Jeremy Corbyn, just watch his popularity grow, the more they trash him, the more electable he will become.

They know that if the plebs get educated to their politics, they are fecked, and JC may well be the man to educate them.

Anyone who thinks that the present tory policy, or the bliar policy’s were for the people, they need locking up in a mental asylum.

  22. TET,

Come on, he’s unelectable :) at least that’s what we were being told a few weeks ago, he is going to kill off the Labour Party once and for all, was that no what we were being told :)

Watching them panic now is becoming a lot of fun, the rhetoric will become even more full of panic and fun, the best bit will be to watch them trying to invent new ways to regurgitate old rhetoric as if they’ve found something new :)

  23. Awe Naw! No politics again!

Doesn’t anyone see through their garbage? Here is how it works:

Their controlling media outlets collude with their lackey politicians, ensuring a stream of “non-news” stories to detract and deflect from the real issues, while “they” line their pockets further.

Treat the man in the street like a mushroom trick: keep him in the dark and feed him shoite.

I can’t get the BBC news here thankfully, my choice is Sky or a few other indys, so I tend to watch RT, at least they don’t hide their bias, they also have some very good docs, and good old Max :-)

I reckon there is more truth told on RT in a day, than the BBC or Sky would tell in a year.

  26. I heard he was dead on

Corbyn’s biggest problem will come from WITHIN the Labour party.

The Blairites are all still there waiting for their chance to oust him.

A few bad polls, a bad result in the Scottish and Welsh elections and they’ll be after him.

I don’t think that Labour will do much if any better in Holyrood next year. Dugdale only weeks ago said they’d be carping on the sidelines with the man who is now her boss in charge.

When it looked like he’d win, she changed her tune.

    People will remember that.

    Ah class…..

  28. Just watched Henrik’s 242 goals video that someone kindly put a link up to yesterday.

    Just magic.

All the goals mean something but 3 I would like to highlight.

The dink in the 6.2 game, just sublime. Still my favourite. The goal against St J to stop the cheats winning 10. Watching it brought back the unbelievable tension before that game, that goal settled the nerves a little. It also brought back fond memories of two of my best friend who sat beside me at the game, but both died far too young and are no longer with us. What a night we had that night. Happy Happy memories, third goal again St J, away this time, the free kick in the last minute to give us a 2.1 victory. I was in the family stand that day, a nice old lady about 80 , St J fan, was sitting beside me and my bhoy all through the game , loads of pleasantries were exchanged and everything was very civil until Henrik scored with that free kick. Then we got called every name under the sun off her, total Jeckyll and Hyde, I’m still laughing about it, we actually moved seats for the final 90 seconds or so. Terrorised by an 80 year old.

  29. I heard he was dead. Ah again the nats rally behind their nonsense.

Labour vote a true left winger in. The SNP continue to pursue facist right wing policies while pretending they are left wing and doing nothing about poverty. And here you are to tell us how it’s all gonna play out.n
