Rogic on a road well travelled, Ciftci’s mark

389

I’ve been slow to catch onto the Tom Rogic bandwagon but his performance yesterday marks a new level of attainment. After some fleeting appearances in the months following his arrival at the club as a 20-year-old, Rogic dropped off the radar. A loan return to Australia and a number of injuries meant he went close to two years without playing for Celtic before his return to the team last month. I’d written him off, and when the teams were announced to face Dundee, I was a bit disappointed to see him in the team ahead of Scott Allan.

Yesterday was like a light being switched on. He demonstrated speed, skill, intelligence and finishing. If we had acquired him for a lot of money last month, I’d be delighted at what was on show.

All of this happened, of course, against a poorly organised Dundee team. Far greater challenges lie ahead, but just like the transformation in Nir Bitton a year ago, or the gains Wanyama made in 2012, we can hope to transform Rogic from a lost-looking squad player into a top performer.

I think we were all delighted Nadir Ciftci got off the mark. Being clean through on the keeper puts the burden of onus on the striker. A significant percentage of such chances are lost, but Nadir’s finish was assured. Like all strikers, he needed that first goal, and I suspect needed the assist he gained a moment earlier when setting Scott Brown up for the fifth.

More game-time and more goals are now needed, starting with Raith Rovers in the League Cup (ouch) on Wednesday.

    Absolutely disgraceful comment.

  2. Macjay please point out a post where I’d said those words.

So you are defending the term “the dug” then?

Do you accept the argument this was some bizarre reference to ” deputy dug” that well known, ahem, version of,” deputy dawg”

    It’s absolutely skin crawling.

The shooting bit is obviously not to be taken seriously and was cleary a silly thing to say.

It should be understood that I abhor violence and wouldn’t advocate it under any circumstances.

Indeed I have often been criticised on here for my posts against violence

ironic really but what can we do.

But apart from that the rest of it is reasonable.

Paul should delete it if it’s going to cause offence.

I didn`t accuse you of using those words.

    No.

You point out where you condemned their continual, ongoing boringly repetitive use.

    You had dozens of opportunities.

    Well.

    Did you?

  6. Dreary dreary me – muckty mickly me there must be an election coming along soon if we are back on the olde politics roadshow!

We are being treated to the old fables – that somehow Scotia is a much more left of centre country than they miserable English bandits!

That must be why we spent lees on education and health care over the last three years than the coalition government did in England!

Or why we sent back £250M to the Treasury last year alone that the old socialists at Holyrood didn’t manage to spend then!

Or why the nasty old progressive council tax has remained frozen for the last decade while the poorest people in Scotland have gotten progressively poorer!

Was it only a year ago that the richest parts of Scotland voted overwhelmingly to stay in the UK?

You still didn’t answer whether you think calling Kazia “the dug” is acceptable.

And BCW I think I am quite correct in that what was said earlier really was mysogninistic. As my cqn morale guardian perhaps you can tell me where I am wrong in that?

I do wish you posted so passionately about Celtic though, instead of the same template style attacks ad hominum.

You can have fun with your fellow Tims.

    You changedyour style before….

  13. TET

I have no vote so my comments are from the cheap seats, but they are Celtic fan related IMHO.

With the OBA haven’t we seen precisely how undemocratic a Scottish government has been, still is and is likely to continue to be?

The same government who disappeared inconvenient statistics that might have supported the views of the opponents of the bill/act?

To vote for someone NOW, whose policies you don’t necessarily agree with, but to whom you wish to give power on trust so that somewhere down the line things will be fine, seems fraught with issues to me.

If I follow the progression – these politicians are to be given power in the hope that at some unspecified time in the future a left leaning/socialist type government for Scotland will be voted in to power and thus the government and the people will eventually be in sync.

There is no time frame for this progression; there is no written agreement for this progression; it is based on a negative proposition (anti Westminster and leaving the UK) as opposed to a positive one (being genuinely economically and politically independent); there is no consensus among population or politicians; there is not even a discussion among politicians about it. Further, there are so many ducks that must all line up for that to happen, ducks that are lamentably prone to the whims of politician and other rogue factors.

The debate about Scotland’s future made for very uncomfortable bedfellows for many folk – not because they saw eye to eye at all, but simply because of a perceived mutual convergence of interests.

The question asked at the referendum was simplistic and had been cleverly drawn up to produce the result that those who drafted it actually wanted.

Those who drafted the Ref question or those who slept while it was being voted through are precisely the same mob who “disappeared” statistics and who voted through the OBA. The same ones who saw nothing wrong with the wretched game at Hampden via McAskill and who have now got just one Chief Constable to pressurize since they approved the national police force in Scotland. Ironically too, the same ones who used the abuse and terrorism of the Celtic manager to justify police state powers largely against Celtic fans. (Behaviour of fans of the other mob were already covered by existing legislation).

Not further than I could throw them.

  17. Macjay1’your very clear avoidance of the question says all. Kazia Dugdale hasn’t ruined millions of lives and for having the temerity of being the leader of the Labour Party is Racist Scotland is now called “the dug”.

BCW you are attempting to equate my occasional anger with the clear mysogninistic nonsense perpetrated by I thought he was dead.mthe future of my children, who live in this increasingly facist and racist society are I’m afraid, far more important to me than Celtics travails.

What I keep reading, everywhere, is the worsening of our liberalism in Scotland.

I did a bit of research into deputy dug and of course the proponents are Bella Caledonia, wings over Scotland and right wing Scottish facists.

    *****Last Man Standing 5- update*****

    Good Evening fholks

26 teams registered to so far. A big thank you to you all and we will be in touch v. soon if you have not already heard from us. 72 teams entered into LMS4, so a few more to go to beat that!

LMS 5 kicks off Saturday 3rd October.

This is the first competition of the new season and we will continue to support Shay McGinley (age 2) and his young family. Thanks to your incredible support last year we raised over £5,300 through LMS and other CQN funding raising activities. This has gone along way to support Shay’s first and second year of treatment. We have a further year to support the wee fella.

You can read about Shay here

    https://www.facebook.com/Help-Shay-Along-The-Way-814451225255695/timeline/

The competition will cost £10 each to enter, and like in LMS4 you will be allowed to buy extra lives in rounds 1 to 3 for a similar amount.

Payout will again be 50% to the Last (Wo)man Standing and 50% to Shay…..

…and all you have to do to is simply select a unique winning team each week from the list of fixtures provided. Dead easy :-) How can you fail not to win? 

The winner of LMS4 netted a cool £425.

So to register, you must firstly send us an email to cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com ( please tell us your name and CQN moniker if you have one) and secondly make sure payment is made by Saturday 3rd October. Payment details and rules will follow on registration.

Please also tell your friends and family about this competition, as the more that enter mean the more you ( and Shay ) can win.

Finally, thank you for your support and good luck in becoming the last (wo)man standing!

If you facists think you have won you can think again. Your agenda and tactics didn’t win the referendum and your campaign of intimidation won’t be left unopposed.

Your stupidity and hypocracy will be exposed as will your lies.

But to be fair to you. That I am having to post this on a Celtic website, being attacked on all fronts, shows you how well your web of facist deceit has worked.

It’s a support I am increasingly recognising less and less.
